* The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has eulogized the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Directorates of University Education and other critical stakeholders for their timely intervention in the Vice-Chancellorship Election Saga in the institution which led to the dissolution of the 10th Governing Council.
The commendation was made on the floor of the 228th Senate Meeting of the institution held at the University auditorium.
In his remarks, Prof. Richard Uwakwe eulogized the Visitor, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa and other education stakeholders who in his words ensured sanity was restored in the institution named after the Great ZIK of Africa regarding the controversial process that led to the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor and Registrar by the dissolved 10th Governing Council.
Uwakwe on the floor of the senate moved a motion for a standing ovation to commend their timely intervention.
* The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commended the Anambra State Government for waiving right-of-way charges for telecom companies, a move that will lower barriers to broadband infrastructure deployment.
Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, made this commendation on Wednesday during the Anambra Innovation Week (AIW) at the International Conference Centre in Awka, Anambra State Capital.
According to Dr. Maida, the NCC is committed to driving a transformative agenda and catalyzing innovation that will shape Nigeria’s technology landscape.
* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde has urged Nigerian youths to exercise caution and be aware of the dangers of an insatiable desire for instant wealth.
Comdt. Maku gave the caution on Tuesday in Awka at a press conference on National sensitization on Security consciousness campaign against Get- Rich -Quick syndrome organized by the National Orientation Agency, NOA in Awka.
The State Commandant, represented by Okadigbo Edwin, Head of Media and Tactical, attributed the surge in crime, lawlessness, and heinous acts like kidnapping and killings for money rituals to a societal obsession with instant wealth.
This obsession he said can lead individuals to prioritize financial gain over moral principles, contributing to the breakdown of law and order.
* The Oyi local government Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Harold Umunna Maduka has said that, he was elected as the local government APGA Chairman to preach the gospel of APGA.
He made this statement when Soludo Mighty Ladies took their ward tour to Nkwelle Ezunaka, stating that they came with Solution message which is good governance. He said, education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world and Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR has made education accessible for every child in the state.
While urging women to take the message of Governor Soludo’s dividends of democracy to every doorstep in their wards, he added that Charly Nwa Mgbafor has broken the jinx with his numerous projects in each local government.
In their separate remarks, the deputy mayor of Oyi local government, Mr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Nwaofia, president general of Nkwelle, ward chairman, Mr. Uchenna Akpuoye, and youth leader of Nkwelle, Mr. Chinedu Nwokedi said, Governor Soludo is doing much more than we expected, saying that there is massive transformation in the state. He urged the women to make sure that other women are part of the group.
* The Nnewi North Deputy Mayor, Hon. Mrs Ijeoma Mercy Okoli has commended Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR on road construction and rehabilitation going on in the state, marking a significant advancement in the state’s infrastructure development.
She made the commendation today after Governor Soludo awarded the construction of multiple roads scanning various local government areas, aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth in the state.
Mrs Deputy Mayor praised Governor Soludo’s vision and commitment to good governance, stating that awarding multiple roads is a testament to Mr. Governor’s dedication to transforming Anambra into a model state.
* The ward women leaders of All Progressive Grand (APGA), Idemili North chapter visited the deputy Mayor of Idemili North, Lady Phina Onwuachu, in her office at the council secretariat, Ogidi.
Speaking during the visitation, Mrs Chika Okafor on behalf of the women congratulated Lady Phina Onwuachu for the Victory in the council election and pledged their unalloyed support to her. She further prayed for more strength to continue her good work.
Reiterating, Lady Onwuachu said, women are part and parcel of the government, stating that she will not disappoint them and the people of the council area. Deputy Mayor appealed them to participate in the empowerment programmes going on in the state to be self-reliant and employers of labour.
* International Federation of Women Lawyers, Anambra State Branch, has held her 2024 Lectures, Luncheon, and Award presentation to deserving individuals.
A Professor of Law and former High Court Judge, Mrs Nkiru Obumneme-Okafor while delivering a paper on the theme of the event, “Innovate, adapt, thrive: Female lawyers in a changing economy”, noted that the present economic reality in Nigeria is affecting legal practice, including female practitioners, and urged female lawyers to, among other things, leverage technology and social media in overcoming challenges of the moment.
In their opening remarks, the FIDA Chairperson in Anambra, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, and Chairperson, 2024 FIDA Week Planning Committee, Barrister Amara Muojeke, said the group is committed to ensuring adequate and timely access to justice for women, children, and less-privileged people in the society, adding that the annual event offers the opportunity to reflect on FIDA’s shared values and recognize those who have championed the course of justice and equality in the society, especially for women and children.
* The Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area Chief Stanley Nkwoka has inaugurated a Special Health Emergency Response Team that will be on call throughout the Christmas yuletide and beyond to offer first aid and assist accident victims.
Chief Nkwoka while speaking during the event which took place at his Office, Secretariat Ogidi, said that Christmas period was associated with many accidents due to the hustle and bustle, influx of vehicles and human beings in the state and various Communities saying that the health response initiative was timely and it was necessary to get prepared to save lives.
“This is a very good initiative, the Supervisory Councillor Health, Dr Nkem Okeke is a square peg in a square hole and with the Director/HOD Primary Healthcare INLGA, Mrs Chinwe Okeke and the health team we are going to provide first aid and other forms of interventions to help accident victims.
* The Chief Judge of Anambra State and Chairman, Justice Sector Monitoring Committee, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, has called for better synergy between actors in the justice sector for effective implementation of the state Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2022
Justice Anyachebelu made the call during a meeting Organized by Justice Development and Peace/Caritas, (JDPC), Onitsha with support from the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme, implemented by International IDEA and funded by European Union to raise awareness on the provisions of Anambra Administration of Criminal Justice, ACJL, for Improved Justice Delivery in Anambra State.
The event organized under the RAPID project of JDPC, attracted representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Immigration Services, the Correctional Service, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP), Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, and Anambra State Vigilante Group, AVG, among others.
* Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has stepped up security advocacy to gather support and build more trust and confidence in Ndi Anambra for Police and Other security agencies in the State.
The security advocacy was born out of the quest of the Command to foster community engagement, encouraging individuals to take ownership of security and report suspicious activities.
It also aims to prevent security breaches, cyber-attacks and physical harm by promoting proactive measures, educate individuals and organizations on potential security risks, vulnerabilities, and best practices.
