# Anambra Youth Congress has elected the national executive members of the association, led by Mr. Emmanuel Egenti as President General, to pilot the affairs of the congress.
Other members of the executive elected during the national congress of the association held in Awka are Azompta Chinazaekpere, Vice President; Chidiebere Onwuatuegwu, Secretary General; Stanley Chukwuralu, Director of Welfare; Gracemary Agupugp, Director of Finance; Onyekachukwu Nwosu, Director of Sports; Ephraim Arinzechukwu, Director of Media and Publicity; and Kingsley Nwobi, Chief Protocol Officer.
Addressing the congress, Mr. Egenti explained that he will unite, empower and mobilize their members for state and national development as well as create a platform for skill acquisition and leadership training.
On his part, the Convener of Anambra Youth Congress, Barrister Chibueze Aguinam, said that the aim of the association is to promote the social and economic well-being of young people and discourage them from engaging in acts capable of jeopardizing their future.
# The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra chapter, on Thursday December 11th held a Medical Outreach for journalists as part of activities marking this 2025 end of year activities.
Chairman of SWAN in Anambra, Mr. Chimezie Anaso in his address, said the essence of the medical outreach, organised in collaboration with Rock Foundation Hospital, a leading private medical facility in Awka, is to help journalists to be in the right state of health, in order to perform their functions in society.
“SWAN Week is an annual End Of Year event of the chapter. It is a time when the association reflects on the activities in the sports sector, in the outgoing year and also confer recognition to deserving personalities and friends of sports.
“The theme of the event is “Sudden Death Phenomenon: Why Fitness Alone is Not Enough” with “Positioning Anambra for Multi Million Dollar Sports Economy” as the sun theme”.
Anaso said recognition would be given to those who have contributed to sports development in Anambra as well as those who have supported the activities of SWAN.
# During the burial of 42-year-old Mr. Anayo Okeke Oguno, a member of Ugogbuzuo Age Grade, Nawfia, who was tragically shot dead at Afor Nawfia Junction, the Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, made a firm declaration.
Deeply moved by the loss, the Mayor announced a ₦5,000,000 (five million naira) bounty for any individual with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the killers responsible for the heinous act.
Barr. Ononiba described the murder as a cowardly and senseless act of violence that must not go unpunished. He assured the grieving family and the entire Nawfia community that the local government, in collaboration with security agencies and the state government is doing everything possible to ensure justice is served.
He also urged residents to remain calm but vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could help expose the perpetrators.
# More than 400 widows and indigent women have benefited from food items, cash support and clothing as the Dubonsa Charity Foundation marked four years of humanitarian outreaches.
The foundation was unveiled after years of private charity for widows, orphans and vulnerable families.
However, the founder, Dr. Uzoamaka Iloanya-Ezigbo, decided to create a more structured movement that sustains community care to alleviate the sufferings of the indigent and the less privileged.
The benefactor was represented by Evangelist Queen Iloanya-Egbunonu at the anniversary held in Awka, the Anambra State capital, as they provided succour and visited orphanage homes.
The Chairperson of the Development Committee of the Foundation, Mrs. Ify Israel, emphasized that the initiative originated from a family tradition of generosity.
She explained that to ensure the largesse reaches the intended beneficiaries, they introduced a method where widows from different villages in Awka are registered through trusted representatives to ensure fair and transparent distribution.
# Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, says sports is a potent instrument for keeping youths away from crime and channeling their energy to positive engagement.
Orutugu said this when the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in Awka.
During the visit, SWAN Chairman Mr.
Chimezie Anaso and Secretary Mr. Uche Ndeke, presented the CP with a customised jersey and formally invited him to the association’s forthcoming End of Year SWAN Week scheduled for December 11th and 12th in Awka.
Orutugu who expressed delight at the gift of a branded jersey commended SWAN for recognising the efforts of the Command towards creating a safe environment for people of Anambra.
The Police boss maintained that sports remained one of the most effective ways of taking youths away from crime, cultism, drug abuse and other social vices which had plagued many communities.
# It was jubilation across the five major villages in Obosi Ukwalla kingdom, Idemili North LGA, Anambra State as the the Prestigious Otu Odu Obosi Cultural Society visited 17 indigent persons to give them succour, showering them with food items and cash.
Members of the Otu Odu Obosi Cultural Society comprise of the highest female title holders in Obosi Community.
Speaking shortly after the empowerment exercises, the Leader of Otu Odu Obosi, Isimuo Nkechinyere Okeke Ugochukwu (Iyom Oduugo) said that the purpose of the 2025 empowerment initiative was to help alleviate the hunger prevalent in the country.
# The ongoing Dunukofia Games Festival 2025 delivered another exciting chapter of competitive brilliance, tactical discipline, and community pride as teams battled across volleyball and football fixtures.
In the female volleyball category, Umudioka clinched victory over Ifitedunu, showcasing better coordination, ball control, and strategic finishing.
The contest, played in a best-of-three format, saw Umudioka take charge early and maintain composure to secure the win.
The male volleyball encounter followed with equal intensity, but Ukpo proved too strong for Umunnachi, dominating the court and sealing the match in convincing fashion. Their performance earned applause from spectators, signalling Ukpo as a team to watch in this year’s tournament.
The highlight of Day two, however, was the female football showdown. Umudioka sent Umunnachi out of the competition with a decisive 3–0 victory, converting chances with precision and showing remarkable teamwork.
# The Anambra stste government is to expend the sum of 200 million for the Procurement and distribution of endangered Igbo traditional fruit trees in 2026.
The Commissioner for Agriculture Doctor Foster Ifejiofor stated this while speaking with Journalists shortly after having bilateral discussions with the Finance and Appropriation Comittee of the Anambra State House of Assembly on the 2026 budget bill.
According to the provision, the state will Procure 60 thousand Ukwa fruit trees seedlings at the cost of 1500 naira each , totaling 90 million naira.
Also 40,000 Udala seedlings and 20,000 bitter kola seedlings will be procured at the costvof 84 million naira.
