* Anambra Commissioner for Information Dr. Law Mefor says Governor Chukwuma Soludo recognise the benefits of sports
and the importance of infrastructure that help discover talents.

Mefor while speaking during the 2024 Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Week in Awka on Friday stated that Anambra government will construct an Olympic size Stadium in the state, to improve sports facilities and promote grassroots sports development.

The Commissioner urged SWAN to support the government in developing sports in the state and evoke the interest of youths in sports activities, toward tackling youth restiveness and other vices.

* The Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has reiterate the need for residents and Indigens to take ownership of security and join voices in condemning any act that threatens national peace.

The CP in his address at the meeting with
the Local Government Chairman, stakeholders, senior members of the Council, AVG members, President Generals and representatives of the traditional rulers, said the Command remains committed in consolidating the gains in crime prevention, restoration of law and order and improving the safety and security of lives in the State.

* The Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere has expressed concern over the increasing rate of illegal sand mining operations in Anambra state, warning that it will prosecute anyone caught in the act.

This warning follows after the enforcement team of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade arrested five persons engaged in illegal sand mining in Ebenator, Nnewi South Local Government Area.

Comrade Anere while expressing disappointment with the involvement of some stakeholders in the illegal activity which he said has proven to have devastating effects on the ecology of the state, said that the government is committed to ensuring that sand miners in the state meet minimum requirements according to international best practices.

* Anambra State has emerged victorious at the esteemed National Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge, clinching two coveted awards: Best State in the Southeast Zone and the Overall Best State in Nigeria.

The state received a grand prize totaling $1.2 million – $500,000 as the best in the Southeast and an additional $700,000 as the national overall best.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo while speaking said this spectacular feat is a collective achievement for Ndi Anambra.

“It underscores the resilience, resourcefulness, and collaborative spirit of our people. The prize money, beyond its financial value, symbolises an endorsement of the state’s healthcare model and provides an opportunity to deepen investments in critical areas such as maternal and child health, immunisation, and rural healthcare infrastructure,” the Governor said.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s giant strides in the health sector has continued to earn the State both National and Global recognitions.

Udeze in his Congratulatory Message to Governor Soludo as Anambra State clinched two awards, described the award as a true reflection of the efforts of Governor Soludo towards the transformation of the health sector in the State.

The Speaker who laid particular emphasis on the complementary role the wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye is playing in advancing the healthcare delivery in the State especially her free antenatal and free child delivery initiative, extolled Governor Soludo’s commitment towards achieving an improved healthcare system in the State.

Rt. Hon. Udeze enjoined the State Ministry of Health, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency as well as stakeholders in the health sector in the State to consolidate this feat achieved by the Governor by redoubling their efforts towards the actualization of the health needs of the citizenry.

* The frontline aspirant for the forthcoming by-election in Anambra South Senatorial zone under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform, Chief Akai Egwuonwu joined the rest of the party faithful to welcome home the party’s National Chairman, Barr Sly Ezeokenwa.

Barr Ezeokenwa and other party executive members were given a warm reception in Awka to further celebrate the party’s Supreme Court victory that has authenticated the leadership of Barr Ezeokenwa as the National Chairman of the APGA.

While fielding questions from newsmen, Chief Egwuonwu said the Supreme Court victory had underscored Governor Soludo’s political wisdom and administrative competence.

Chief Egwuonwu noted that with this legal victory, APGA has become a party to beat and now more equipped to show its relevance in national politics.

* The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has launched its Strategic Health Development Plan (SHDP) in commemoration of the world Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day 2024 with the theme “Health: It’s On The Government”. This initiative reflects the agency’s commitment to advancing universal health access across Anambra State.

The Managing Director and CEO of ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, highlighted the SHDP as a pivotal framework designed to expand health insurance coverage and ensure wider enrollment in the state’s health insurance scheme. The plan aligns with Nigeria’s national UHC goals, underscoring the state’s dedication to improving healthcare accessibility and affordability for its residents.

This launch is a milestone in Anambra State’s journey towards achieving UHC at the subnational level, emphasizing inclusivity and equitable healthcare delivery.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has been awarded Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Educational Practitioners, United Kingdom (CIEPUK).

According to the Global President of CIEPUK, Dr Marcel Ezenwoye, the fellowship award was in recognition of his outstanding professional achievements and contributions to the fields of mass communication and entrepreneurial technology. It also reflected his distinguished career spanning over three decades, during which he successfully handled notable media and communication projects domestically and internationally.

Speaking during the Investiture and Induction Awards Ceremony, held at Paul University, Awka, Anambra State, where he was appointed a visiting professor, Dr. Mefor appreciated the institutions, respectively, assuring them of his support and that of his friends.

He further reiterated Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s special interest in education, which the governor demonstrated by offering free education from primary to secondary school for not only the people of Anambra but all residents of the state regardless of their states of origin.

* Anambra governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sir. Paul Chukwuma, has questioned Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s management of the state’s security vote.

Chukwuma’s concerns come amidst rising insecurity in Anambra State, which has left residents living in fear.

The immediate past national auditor of APC while speaking in a press conference at his Umueri country home in Anambra East Local Government Area on Saturday, questioned the use of the state’s security vote, wondering what the governor does with the funds.
