* The President General (PG) of the Obosi Development Union (ODU), in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Barr. Chimezie Obi, has expressed his thankfulness and appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the commencement of repair work on the Obosi-Nkpor federal bypass.
Massive repair work has started on the road, which is deteriorating owing to regular heavy traffic flow on it.
The commencement of repair work on the road followed the appeal made by Barr. Chimezie Obi to the Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Works for the rehabilitation of the road.
* The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, on Sunday, celebrated the recent Supreme Court victory of the party with a thanksgiving mass at the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, Fegge, Onitsha.
Rev. Father Stanley Ozigbo, delivering the homily during the mass, highlighted the importance of thanksgiving and faith in God, especially in times of victory and success.
He urged the congregation to always acknowledge God’s role in their achievements and to remain steadfast in their trust and gratitude for His divine guidance.
The APGA National Chairman praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo CFR, who he said is the greatest asset of APGA, for his support and leadership throughout the legal challenge, and thanked him for his massive work in Anambra State, which has set a model across Nigeria.
Ezeokenwa reaffirmed the party’s commitment to continue working towards the development of the Southeast region and the nation at large, prioritizing good governance, economic empowerment, and the welfare of citizens.
* The Economic Development Summit Team of Ogbaru Local Government Area; through her Agriculture Development Think Tank Committee and partners, “She Grows Her Food Initiative”, have flagged off dry season farming in the area with the training of over one thousand farmers and disbursement of free vegetable seedlings.
The training which took place at a demonstration farm in Atani, Ogbaru Council Area, drew participants from different communities in the council area.
The Anambra State Coordinator of “She Grows Her Food Initiative“, Mr. Linus Uhuo, said they had earlier trained ninety youths at Songhai Farms who now serve as master trainers training the over one thousand farmers in Ogbaru.
* USAID – US Agency for International Development in collaboration with Coca-Cola foundation and TechnoServe Nigeria have donated Plastic Recycling Equipment to privately-owned waste recycling companies in Anambra State.
The handover was performed by the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Dr. Felix Odimegwu on behalf of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the presence of USAID, Coca-Cola Foundation and Technoserve officials at Jerome Udorji Secretariat in Awka.
Speaking during the handover, Dr Odimegwu Stated that the initiative was in line with the agenda of the Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo in making sure that circular economy takes center stage in the state.
* Frontline Anambra governorship aspirant under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Paul Chukwuma, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing competent Anambra people into positions in his administration, irrespective of party affiliations.
Chukwuma, who spoke in his country home, Umueri, Anambra State, on Saturday during an interaction with media personalities, also dismissed speculations of an alliance between the APC and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), noting that recent appointments of individuals from Anambra State by Tinubu reflect Mr President’s commitment to national unity, inclusivity, and not partisan favoritism.
According to Chukwuma, the argument over the years had been that APC Government do not like ndi Anambra and ndigbo but now, appointment has come to ndi Anambra and people are complaining.
He said that the issue of appointment remain the prerogative of Mr. President, saying that irrespective of different political party affiliation, all the political parties are still under one Nigeria.
* The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Anambra State Branch, has held its 2024 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Seminar in Awka; where they also recognized Governor Chukwuma Soludo with an award for excellent leadership qualities in governance and land administration reforms.
The seminar with theme, “Contemporary tools for effective land administration and property management in Nigeria”, was attended by members of the institute, policy makers in government, sister professionals and other industry stakeholders.
In his address, the State Chairman of the Institution, Mr. Raji Adewale, explained that the seminar was aimed at helping members meet global best practices through exploring tools like the Geographic Information System, GIS, which enables equitable housing provision and addresses mapping vulnerability.
* Exploring digital and technological innovations to boost the economy and promote sustainable development formed the basis of the third International Multi-disciplinary Conference hosted by the Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu.
Declaring the conference opened, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma -Udeh, represented by the Director of Higher Education in the ministry, Mrs Oyibo Alor, said the present administration promotes innovative programmes targeted at producing highly skilled, productive and globally competitive workforce, and charged the school to continue to equip their students with technical skills.
In a lead paper presentation, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Kate Omenugha, represented by Professor Njideka Ebisi, asked educators, researchers and policy makers to equip their students with the tools to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
In her welcome address, the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Njideka Chiekezie, said the institution aims to achieve excellence by promoting the acquisition of technological and academic competencies in a serene environment.
* Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has urged contractor handling the reconstruction and dualization of the Nnewi-Ozubulu-Okija road to ensure timely completion without compromising quality.
Chairman of the Committee and member representing Orumba South Constituency, Hon. Emma Nwafor, made the appeal during an inspection tour of the ongoing project; as part of the committee’s oversight responsibilities.
Speaking about the 16.6 kilometer dual carriage way facilitated by the state government, Nwafor who is also an engineer noted that work is progressing on the road, adding that materials and sections inspected conform to the standards outlined in the project’s construction plans.
Responding on behalf of the construction company handling the project, Engineer Ola Kings, assured the committee of commitment to delivering the quality project on schedule.
* Winners of the quiz competition based on Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Idemili North LGA had emerged during the marking of the Anambra Innovation Week (AIW) in the council area by secondary school students.
During the two-day event, which took place at Idemili North LGA headquarters, innumerable students from over 30 schools participated in the presentation of technological innovations and ICT quiz competition.
At the end of the keenly contested quiz competition, Nwosu Kenneth Anthony from Divine Rays Demonstration School, Obosi came first; while Akuora Michael Onu and Frederick Nwachukwu, both from Dominican Sisters’ College, Abatete, took second and third position, respectively.
