* The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State chapter has lamented that most public structures in the State were still inaccessible to persons with disabilities (PWDs) despite existence of Disability Rights Law 2018.
The State JONAPWD Chairman, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, who stated this at 2024 commemoration of International day for PWDs celebrated in Awka under the theme ‘Amplifying the Leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future,’ decried over poor access and inclusion to them.
Okeke therefore, implored governor Chukwuma Soludo to consider making ongoing public institutions constructions such as Ekwueme square, Awka Fun City, and others accessible and friendly to PWDs.
* The Chairman, Anambra State Football Association Gen Chikelue Iloenyosi attended the Conferment of ‘Omu Ogbaru’ on Senator Stella Oduah.
Iloenyosi Congratulated Oduah on her title and describe her as a Great Woman who her works and achievements speaks Volume.

* The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, recently held its 2024 SWAN Week, where outstanding contributors to sports development in the state were recognized and awarded.
Among the recipients was the Anambra State Beach Soccer Association, which took home the prestigious award for “The Most Active Sports Association in Anambra State”.
The association’s chairman, Professor Victor Madubuko, was honored for his exceptional leadership and achievements in promoting beach soccer in the state.
Representing Professor Madubuko, Okwudili Emmanuel thanked SWAN for the recognition and promised that the association would continue to strive for excellence.
* His Royal Highness Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu, the traditional ruler of Ojoto community in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has said that Ojoto is set for a beautiful Christmas celebration this year as the community embarks on Operation Light-Up Ojoto community coupled with other developmental programmes and projects that would be unveiled.
Speaking on the activities lined-up for the festive season, Igwe Mbamalu told newsmen that the Otu-Odu Ojoto Women of Honour and Integrity which is the highest prestigious cultural organisation for married Ojoto women would launch installation of solar-powered street lights in all the 8 villages that comprises Ojoto as a way of giving back to the community for bestowing the highest traditional title for married women of Ojoto extraction on them.
Mbamalu who described the Otu-Odu Operation Light-Up Ojoto Community as a laudable project, said the essence was to illuminate the entire community especially at night times to protect it from criminals as crimes and criminalities thrived mostly at nights.
* The Anglican Bishop of Ihiala Diocese Rt Rev. Israel Okoye has called on the federal government to find a lasting Solution to insecurity ravaging different parts of the country which is seriously affecting the economy.
Presenting his address to delegates at the Second session of the fifth Synod of the diocese at St Stephens Diocesan church center Ihiala, Okoye maintained that the high rate of insecurity which resulted to incessant kidnappings is discouraging investors and called on the government to seek ways of improving security across the country especially in the South East geopolitical zone, pointing out that without the release of Mr Nnamdi Kanu all efforts towards restoring normalcy in the south East will remain futile.

* The Mayor of Aguata LGA, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike has led a solitary march titled “appreciation walk”.
The walk involving thousands young people from Aguata LGA, all from the fourteen communities in Aguata, was a show of gratitude in appreciation to governor Soludo, for all the road projects he is executing in the local government.
For hours, the mayor led a cannival of youths who walked from the new Ekwulobia Fly-Over to the on-going Ekwulobia-Uga dual carriage, taking a diversion at the about-to-be-completed Uga-Nkpologwu road with a spur to Amesi, and then ended at the interjection of the completed Achina-Onneh road and the Achina-Enugu-Umuonyia-Umuomaku road.
* The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) said it would no longer allow members to erect churches whose buildings or structures are not accessible to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Anambra State.
The Anambra State Chairman of PFN, Bishop Moses Ezedebego declared this at Awka during the 2024 commemoration of International day for PWDs, an event organised by Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), under the theme ‘Amplifying the Leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.”
Ezedebego, represented by Pastor Mark Odogwu, assured that they would commence building of ramps and others with a view to ensure that PWDs gain equal access to their church buildings in accordance to sections 23 and 26 of Anambra State Disability Rights law 2018.
* An Anambra-based apprentice, identified Chinecherem Ugwu, is currently facing one of the most painful moments of his life, given the severe torture he got from his Boss, Mr. Peter Ozioko.
Mr. Ugwu, who hails from Nsukka in Enugu State, was said to be serving his master, Mr. Ozioko, as an apprentice in one of his shops in the commercial city of Nnewi, Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State, where he recently received the worst beating of his life.
According to a video currently trending on social media, the brutalization came following a suspicion by Mr. Ozioko that his apprentice (Ugwu) bought a phone.
Recounting his ordeal, the victim said it all started when his Master was informed by one of his agents that he bought a phone.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has received over one thousand (1,000) former members of Labour party (LP) into All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA).
The decampees led by their national coordinator, Chief Rochas Orji, along with state and local government coordinators.
were received at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center in Awka.
Receiving them, Governor Soludo described APGA as the foremost progressive party in Nigeria and reiterated his commitment towards creating an enabling environment for speedy transformation of the State.
The State Chairman of APGA, Barrister Ifeatu Obiokoye revealed that the mass exodus of ndị Anambra into the party is because Governor Soludo has worked more than his predecessors within a short period.
* The Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye has distributed over one thousand
(1,000) bags of rice and cash to persons from two constituencies that make up Awka South Local Government Area.
Rt. Hon. Okoye, who is the member representing Awka South two constituency, while speaking, said the event brings to an end the 2024 batch of the monthly salary scheme which had twenty-two individuals drawn from the two constituencies as beneficiaries and to enroll another set of individuals to benefit from the scheme in 2025.
