* Anambra State Joint Task Force on Illegal Structures has embarked on a demolition exercise in parts of Onitsha metropolis. ANN reports that the exercise, spearheaded by the State Physical Planning Board, was carried out at Omalima and Irunkwo Phase One and Two, as well as Nkisi Layout Onitsha, where illegal structures and shanties were removed.

* Police in the early hours of Saturday, 16th December, 2023 rescued four children aged 13, 14, 21 and 21 years, close to Urum, 25 kilometres away from their home in Achala village, Enugwu-Agidi, Anambra state. According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, PPRO Anambra State Command, Police at Abagana received information via Police hot line that suspected herdsmen had abducted four children from a family at Achalla Village, Enugwu Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area.

* A Steering committee on the Implementation of International Idea and Rolac 11 has been inaugurated in Anambra State. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Sylvia Chika Ifemeje who performed the function in Awka, said the committee is to oversee the implementation of the Rolac 11 work plan. The membership of the committee was drawn from stakeholders in the Justice delivery sector including the Judiciary, the Police, Human Rights group, the civil society organization, the Law reform committee, public procurement, public prosecution, Women Affairs, Health sector and Persons with disability group.

* The Assistant Commandant General (ACG) in charge of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Zone K, Awka, Solomon Iyamu has ordered the State Commandants of Anambra and Enugu to ensure adequate security of lives and property, before, during and after the Christmas and New year celebrations in their respective states. The ACG gave the directive in Awka after reviewing the security plan in both states ahead of the Yultide to ensure an effective and efficient delivery of security coverage. He urged them to identify all the strategic and vulnerable points in their respective commands and ensure massive deployment of personnel to the area.

* Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has reassured that women will continue to play pivotal roles in the developmental goals of the present administration in the State. She spoke during a meeting aimed at engaging the women on pertinent social issues and to interact with them ahead of the yuletide held at the Governor’s Lodge. Addressing the women, Mrs Soludo explained that the state government understands the human capital strength of women and is very intentional in coming up with strategic plans that favour women.

* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Hon. Ossy Onuko has declared that no Awka indigenes or residents will vote the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition political parties except the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Onuko who is the founder and national convener of Soludo Ambassadors, said Soludo’s reelection in 2025 will be what he described as political ecumenism because all the opposition elements especially the APC, PDP and Labour Party in the state capital will all cast their votes for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo because they have all settled for him. 

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chuksbrown Igboanua has extolled Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the award of 20,000 naira cash to the State workforce. Speaking to the newsmen in Ogidi, Hon. Igboanua described Governor Soludo as a humane and compassionate leader who listens to the yearnings and heartbeats of his people at all times. 

* Professor Lilian Orogbu, the representative of the Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has expressed her condolences on the passing of Late Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former Anambra State Governor.

In her message, Orogbu praised the late elder statesman’s fine qualities and acknowledged his positive impact on Anambra State, the South East, and the nation. Describing him as a seasoned administrator and refined politician, the lawmaker highlighted his significant contributions to national development, unity, and his role as the first Executive Governor of Anambra State. 

* Anambra State Commissioner for Housing,  Hon. Pauly Onyeka has expressed satisfaction  with the level of renovation work being carried out at the New Police-base Camp in lsuofia, Aguata LGA, and the three general hospitals at Ekwulobia, Enugwu-Ukwu and Umueri of the state. The commissioner while speaking to the press after his inspection tour to the facilities noted that the infrastructural transformation being  experienced in the state under Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has  propelled the state positively.
