# The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, has been honoured by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, for his outstanding contributions to the fight against gender inequality and inequity in the state.

Justice Anyachebelu was among several distinguished personalities recognised during the 2025 FIDA Week and Award Day, themed “Unmasking the Pain: An Exploration of the Causes and Consequences of Intimate Partner Violence among Adults.”

Expressing appreciation for the honour, the Chief Judge reaffirmed his continued support for FIDA, noting the organisation’s steady growth and impact over the years.

In her opening remarks, the Chairperson of FIDA Anambra, Mrs Amara Muojeke, reaffirmed the organisation’s unwavering commitment to combating intimate partner violence across the state.

# Anambra State Commissioner for Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu says through intelligence driven operations and swift responses by the Joint Security Team, 35 kidnapped victims has been rescued, while over three hundred (300) suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, secessionist activities, rape, and other serious offences have been arrested.

Speaking in a press briefing at the Police Command on Wednesday, CP. Orutugu maintained that the cooperation between the Department of Security Service (DSS), the Nigerian Army, Navy, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Agunaechemba, Police and other security Operatives made the achievements possible.

According to the Police boss, the Joint Security recovered over two thousand (2,000) arms and ammunition, including explosives and other dangerous items, and also recovered more than sixty (60) stolen vehicles, including motorcycles; and, Successfully prosecuted and secured convictions in several criminal cases.

# In a determined effort to create awareness of blood affinity among the Umuezechi family dynasty relatives both at home and in the diaspora, a community leader of Isi Achina extraction in Aguata LGA and a collosus of note, Chief Joseph Nwakpadolu has unfolded the 2025 blueprint of the Umuezechi family to further deepen the bond among them.

Chief Nwakpadolu the arrow head of the movement seeks to perfect what the forum started in 2021 to bring together his brothers from far and near to expose to them, their blood link traced to their progenitor Ezechi born in 1810.

The essence is to enlighten them on the need to maintain closer ties with each other and avoid the unpleasant consequences of inter marital relationship among them.

According to the convener in a press statement in Awka, the 2021 first edition of the Umuezechi Convention at Isi Achina took a decision to stage the second edition of the general return of its members on the 28th of December 2025,and to repeat the event every 5 years.

# Anambra House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has commended the Nigerian Navy for its role in improving security in Anambra State,

Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that their presence has enabled ndi Anambra to move freely and celebrate without fear as well as peaceful cordial relationship.

In his address at the End-of-Year Party of the Naval Outpost, Onitsha, Udeze represented by the member representing Idemilli South Constituency, Hon. Ebuka Igwe praised the Commanding Officer, Commander Kabir Yusuf, for his effective leadership, noting that there has been a significant improvement in security since he assumed office.

The Speaker noted that although many people have different views about the military, closer interaction shows that they are disciplined and professional, describing them as good partners to relate with, while, assuring the Naval Outpost Onitsha of the continued support of the Anambra State House of Assembly, even as he expressed appreciation for the Award of Excellence presented to him.

# The Speaker of Anambra House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has not only succeeded in improving the image of the State through good governance, but has continued to ensure that the State takes preeminent position among other states in the country in all indices of development.

In his cheerful reaction to the recent meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovations and Digital Economy held in Jos, Plateau State where Anambra State clinched four prestigious awards, Rt Hon. Udeze attributed the feat to the innovative, insightful and purposeful administration of Governor Soludo towards ensuring that the State is exposed to available digital opportunities to fast track development in the State and boost digital economy.

The State Number One Lawmaker who enumerated the awards to include best overall performing State in ICT development, best State in ICT human capital development, second runner-up in infrastructural development as well as second runner-up in e government implementation, revealed that the emergence of Anambra State as one of the most outstanding performers at the event, underscores Governor Soludo’s unwavering efforts to sustain excellence, hard work, innovation as well as infrastructural and technological development in the State.

Rt. Hon. Udeze also commended Team Anambra at the event led by the Managing Director of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Mr. Fred Agbata, who received the award on behalf of Governor Soludo for their commitment to duty, adding that Governor Soludo’s consistent support to the agency has greatly motivated them to compete vigorously with their counterparts in the global digital economy.

# A bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Anambra State Real Estate Agents and Developers Regulatory Bill, has been red for the third time and pass into law.

The bill sponsored by the lawmaker representing Nnewi South One Constituency, Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu,
was passed on Tuesday at plenary.

At the ‘Committee of the Whole’, the lawmakers did some necessary corrections after which a motion was moved by the Majority Leader who is representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme and was seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Nobel Igwe who is representing Ogbaru One Constituency, for its passage.

Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided the sitting said the law shall come into force, from 31st December 2025.

The Sponsor of the bill, Hon. Nonso
Atuchukwu, while speaking to House of Assembly Correspondents in an interview after plenary, experienced gratitude to the Speaker and the enter Members of the 8th Assembly, for making the law a reality.

# The Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic Oko has ratified the election of Dr. Ferguson Ezeokafor as the new Deputy Rector, Administration of the Polytechnic.

The Rector, Dr.Chioma Awuzie handed the letter of appointment to him on behalf of the Council Chairman, Engr. Barnabas Gemade.

Dr.Ezeokafor formally assume office on 17th December 2025 when the tenure of Dr Ezekwe the outgoing Deputy Rector, Administration expires.

The appointment is for a single tenure of four years.

# Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has supported 250 elderly persons in Anambra State with fifty million naira under Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS, Third Edition).

This year’s edition, with the theme, “Finding Joy in Old Age,” reflects the RHI unique social investment pattern, which is to ensure that the elderly citizens live with dignity, comfort, and joy.

The scheme supports 250 elderly citizens, aged 65 and above in each of the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, including veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).

In her address during the event, Senator Tinubu whose speech was delivered by wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr (Mrs) Nonye Soludo, said that since the inception of President Bola Tinubu administration in 2023, the Renewed Hope Initiative has made it a tradition to celebrate the senior citizens every December, in recognition of their great contributions to nation-building.
