* Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards of Federal University of Technology Owerri in collaboration with Centre for Environmental Impact Analysis and Laboratory Services Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has organized Tacks A and B Executive workshop on procurement, management, environmental and social standards for civil servants and teachers in the institutions of higher learning. ANN reports that the workshop attracted participants from Anambra and beyond.

* Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima has commissioned an Electric Energy Meter Manufacturing Factory, by Advanced Energy Management Solution Ltd, AEMSL in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Council Area of Anambra State. ANN reports that the commissioning of the Energy meter production facility is expected to stimulate technological innovation and boost production of meters and ultimately reduce reliance on importation. The Vice President also commissioned Ijele Fm radio station and flagged-off the third phase of Sir Emeka Offor foundation Housing Scheme, as well as witnessed the distribution of palliatives to widows’ cooperative society.

* The managing Director Anambra Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Mr. Osita Onuko says there must be sacrifices for any society to be better. Mr. Onuko in an interview after appearing before Anambra assembly committees on Finance and Appropration Chaired by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu and Committee on lands, survey and town planning chaired by Hon Jude Akpua, during the budget defense and bilateral discussion, said the agency will perform better next year 2024.

* Iyiowa Community Landlords and Residents Association have staged peaceful protest at the Government House Awka over alleged extortion by their host, Odekpe people in Ogbaru Local Government Area. The protesters with various placards conveying their grievances were received by the Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Sir Ernest Ezeajughi. The leader of the protesters, Dr. Chukwunonso Okolie, accused the President General Odekpe community, Barrister Innocent Nwanosike, of leading over four hundred thugs to destroy many buildings, over thirty cars and other properties, as well as inflict bodily injuries on residents of the area over illegal and indiscriminate levies that do not spare even petty traders.

* Anambra Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike says statistics show that two point four percent (2.4) of Anambra population which is about ninety eight thousand, nine hundred and sixty (98, 960) people are estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS and are receiving treatment in the one point one eight two zero centres in the state.

Dr. Obidike stated this at a one-day symposium organized by the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency ANSACA in collaboration with the Joint United Nations Programme on AIDS, UNAIDS held in Awka with the theme “Communities: Leadership to end AIDS by 2030″. Obidike maintained that a huge number of HIV/AIDS patients are yet to be reached, adding that stakeholders’ engagement is important so as to intensify the campaign for testing and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

* Ogbaru two constituency in Anambra stateis said to be suffering perennial darkness due to lack of electricity supply in the area.  Investigations revealed that communities like Obeagwe, Ogwuikpele and Akili-Ogidi have not seen electricity since the creation of man while the likes of Akpanam-Osomala, Ogwuaniocha and a host of other communities only had a glimpse of electricity supply in 2014 and eversince they have been in total darkness.

*  Participants in the “youth to youth” mentorship roundtable organized by the Government of Anambra State through Dr. Nelson Omenugha, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth, have commended the mentorship roundtable, with many describing it as what the state needs to retain its best talents at home. The first edition of youth to youth mentorship roundtable was held in Awka, and featured Obinna Etele, Group Managing Director of Eteleson Group as guest mentor.
