* Hon. Justice Chukwunonye Azuka has been sworn-in as the member representing Onitsha North one constituency at the Anambra state house of assembly. ANN reports that Azuka replaces Douglas Egbouna who was removed by the court of appeal. Anambra Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided the administration of the oath at plenary on Tuesday, congratulated Azuka on his election.
* A yet-to-be-identified tricyclist has been crippled by an unidentified reckless driver of a car. The incident happened at the Green Tower Junction, off the Godwin Ezeemo Int’l Press Centre, Awka, the capital city of Anambra State on Sunday night. ANN gathered that the reckless driver also sped off immediately the crash occured, leaving the Keke driver unconscious on the ground, with his two legs shattered.
* Anambra state house of assembly has approved for Governor Chukwuma Soludo to access the sum of two billion naira loan from the Federal Government. Member representing Anaocha 2 constituency Hon. Ejike Okechukwu moved a motion for the 8th assembly to approval that the loan be accessed for the services of ndi Anambra. He was seconded by Hon. Nobel Igwe (Ogbaru one)
* Police in Anambra State have arrested a couple trafficking one month old Baby from Lagos. The interception was made at Bridgehead in Onitsha on Sunday 17th December, 2023. According to a release from DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, PPRO, Anambra State Police Command, the couple were travelling in a Luxury bus belonging to a popular transport company with the baby when a co-passenger observed that the mother could not breastfeed the baby despite its cry for food in the course of the journey. The good samaritan put a call through to Anambra Police on its Control Room hotline in Awka which then relayed the information to the Police at Bridgehead in Onitsha.
* The Senator representing Anambra North District, Dr. Tony Nwoye has re-stated his commitment to promoting constituents’ economic empowerment and development programmes through robust legislative engagements and accountable representation, saying that he would stop at nothing to offer unrivalled representation and attract the dividends of democracy. Nwoye made this known at All Saints Cathedral Field Onitsha when he and other Labour Party Lawmakers were hosted by a socio-political group.
* The Anambra State House of Assembly has
felicitate and celebrate with Igwe Kenneth Onyemaeke Nnaji (K.O.N) Orizu 3rd (Igwe Nnewi), on his 96th bithday and 60th years on the throne. The member representing Nnewi North constituency Hon. Augustine Onyekachi Ike who sponsored the motion said the longest serving monarch was crowned Igwe Nnewi in 1963 at the age of 38.
* The alleged alliance of Ifeanyi Ubah and Uche Ekwunife for the Anambra State 2025 governorship and deputy governorship race respectively on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as a pure business venture. Describing the alliance as self-serving , the National Coordinator of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, said the political alliance is just a business venture. This was contained in a statement made available to journalists.
* As parts of her efforts towards ensuring adequate protection of life and properties of the people from unforseen incident of fire outbreak, the Anambra State Government has announced her plan to launch a fire app in the State. The State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, disclosed this to newsmen shortly after a strategic meeting with the leadership and the station commanders of the Anambra State Fire Service, with a view to re-strategize and serve the people better, especially in this period of dry/harmattan season.
* Twenty-seven-year-old Kosisochukwu Umeano was orphaned at an early age and had to see himself through his university education when all hope to get help failed. Umeano, who studied Music at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), emerged as the overall best graduating student with a GPA of 4.82.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Mr. ThankGod Anagor, says security of live and property will continue to top the priority of his administration at the council secretariat shortly after receiving a certificate of integrity stewardship award as service ambassador from a non-governmental organization, “Advocacy for Peace and Values Reorientation”, Mr. Anagor commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for giving him the opportunity to contribute his quota and ideas in his government.
