* Traders at the popular Onitsha Main Market will soon have cause to rejoice, as free Wi-Fi will soon hit the market, to boost their sales and purchase activities through the e-commerce service.

This was disclosed by the Chairman and Managing Director, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, (ANSPPB), Barr. Chike Maduekwe, in a chat with newsmen in Awka.

The free Wi-Fi service is being developed by the State Government through the ANSPPB, the State ICT Agency, the SPERD Market and Xinox Technologies and is expected to have coverage that is in excess of one kilometre radius of the market.

* Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has initiated several projects to enhance the infrastructural and aesthetics development of the Command.

The CP has commenced the construction of the hitherto abandoned Anambra State Police Officers’ Mess.

CP Itam has also proposed the construction of a befitting State Police Headquarters and the Commissioner of Police Quarters.

These developments aim to modernize the Police facilities and improve the overall efficiency of the Command.

* Anambra State House of Assembly Assembly at plenary passed into law, the 2025 appropriation bill totaling, 606, 991, 849, 118 naira for the services of the government of Anambra state for the year ending 31st December 2025.

The passage of the Appropriation Bill followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation Chaired by Hon Ejike Okechukwu.

Hon. Okechukwu who is representing Anaocha two Constituency while presenting the report, said the budget size was retained as presented by the governor.

The lawmaker said the recurrent expenditure is N139,507,955,604 representing 23% of the entire budget, while the capital estimate is N467, 473, 201, 837 representing 77%.

* The Mayor of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has commended Anambra First Lady, Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo for empowering and organizing free medical checkups for elderly people in the state.

Mrs. Obi made this commendation during December Empowerment and free medical checkups for elderly people that was hosted at Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.

The Idemili South Council Mayor stated that the founder of Renewed Hope Initiative, who is the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Dr. Nonye Soludo are always making the plight of the elderly and vulnerable a priority.

Obi said that the gesture by the Anambra State First Lady confirmed the favourable disposition of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to older people in the state, stating that such act has accorded the aged people a welcome sense of inclusion and addressed their right to non-discrimination.

While stating that Dr. Soludo has continued to empower and encourage the elderly, women, and children in the state Mrs. Obi urged ndi Anambra to double their support for administration of Governor Soludo for more dividends of democracy.

* The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 50-year-old man, Chidi Ekwesiri from Umunya in Oyi local government, for impersonation.

The arrest also led to the recovery of an automatic pump-action gun and a police uniform.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

Operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad detained Ekwesiri during a surveillance patrol along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway near the Unizik Temporary Site.

 

* The Police and Fire service operatives
following the swift response to the outbreak at Ogbosisi, brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, Police operatives have cordoned off the scene of the incident to prevent hoodlums from taking undue advantage of the situation to loot properties and goods of individuals in the area.

The Command has however begun an investigation into the cause of the fire incident and notes that no life was lost. Also the worth of goods destroyed is yet to be ascertained

 

* The Chairman Committee on Oba Markets, Hon. Ogonna Ndozie has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for completing the rehabilitation work at the Afor Uzo Oba market axis of the Nnewi – Oba old road.

Ndozie also praised Anambra State Government for the installation of Metal Barricades in front of the market to check mate the excesses of traders who encroach on the busy road to sell wares.

Speaking to newsmen at his office at Afor-Uzo Market Oba, Idemili South LGA, Ndozie who is also the Oba Patriotic Union (OPU) Vice President II, solicited for the award and construction of the Umuoji -Oba – Akwuukwu Road which has been politicized and abandoned by previous administrations despite its strategic position linking two other LGAs.

 

* The member representing Anaocha two constituency, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu says
the Executive will record over 80 percent implementation of the 2025 budget.

Hon. Okechukwu who is the House Committee Chairman On Fiance And Appropriation, speaking in a media briefing said the budget was passed as presented by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The lawmaker said that though the overall budget size was not altered, there were realignments between and across Ministries, Department and Agencies within the envelope.

Hon. Okechukwu revealed that the recurrent expenditure is N139, 507 ,955, 604 representing 23% of the entire budget, while the capital estimate is N467, 473, 201, 837 representing 77%.

 

* The Mayor of Ayamelum Local Government, Hon. Prince Alphonsus Ofumelu, has expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for awarding the reconstruction of the Awkuzu-Igbariam-Anaku link road that leads to the Ayamelum local government.

The reconstruction project came with an eighteen-month project span and is billed to be completed within the record time.

Appreciating the governor for the all-important concern on link road, Hon. Alphonsus reiterated the feedback of the good people of Ayamelum, whose yeans are being hearkened to by the solution governor. He described Mr. Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, as an indefatigable and hard-working governor whose passion for all-inclusive governance is second to none.

Hon. Prince Alphonsus Ofumelu reiterated his commitment to driving the visionary leadership of Mr. Governor to the grassroots, as the support of the good people of Ayamelum for the solution administration is sure.

 

* Mothers have been advised to begin early to groom their girlchild in a manner that they will be politically conscious and show interest in political positions.

The Anambra State Chairperson of the African Action Congress, (AAC), Chioma Ifemeludike made the call in a chat with reporters on women’s participation in Anambra politics.

Ifemeludike believes the trend does not give the opportunity to the women to explore their potential to bring about positive change in Anambra politics.

According to her, the current situation is a major setback for women in the state, considering that they had occupied majority positions in the senatorial seats at some point.
