# Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze, says thirty-nine bills was passed into law in 2025.

The Speaker made the disclosure during the Carol and Nine Lessons organized by the Anambra State House of Assembly while noting that the achievements recorded so far reflect the commitment of the legislature to its constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking and oversight.

Rt. Hon. Udeze described them as critical legislations aimed at shaping and improving the lives of Ndi Anambra.

The Speaker explained that the performance of the Assembly demonstrated that the members were elected to genuinely serve the people through effective representation, quality legislation, and robust oversight of government activities.

Udeze added that significant improvements have been recorded within the House of Assembly complex, including structural upgrades and the enhancement of the legislative chamber to ensure smooth and efficient lawmaking.

The Speaker further stated that deliberate efforts have been made to strengthen institutional capacity through regular training and retraining of both staff and members of the Assembly to improve professionalism and efficiency.

# The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie has called on the school’s management, staff and students to use the Christmas season to reflect on the love of God, unite together and share with each other, especially with the less privileged persons around them in humility and righteousness.

Dr. Awuzie made the call during the 2025 edition of Carol of Nine Lessons which held at the Convocation arena, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Orumba North LGA, Anambra State, urging all management, staff and students of the polytechnic to uphold peace, discipline, and institutional pride as they join hands to move the institution to greater heights; as proud and worthy ambassadors of the institution:

According to Dr. Awuzie, Christmas is more than a celebration. It is a call to unity, love and moral renewal. A period of sober reflection living in the spirit of onye aghana nwanneya (Noone should forsake his brother) and Omume ezi omume (the pursuit of good deeds); we are reminded that compassion, humility and mutual respect must guide our daily lives.”

# Press Secretary to the Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Christian Aburime, has affirmed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is deeply committed to nationalist ideology.

Mr. Aburime made this statement shortly after receiving an award from the Association of Non-Indigenes Welfare in Anambra State in recognition of his outstanding dedication to the welfare of both indigenes and non-indigenes within the state.

The award was presented to Mr. Aburime in appreciation of his support for inclusive policies and efforts to promote unity and development across Anambra’s diverse communities.

Speaking at the event held at the Light House, Awka, Mr. Aburime emphasized that Governor Soludo prioritizes the collective well-being of all residents, irrespective of their ethnic or regional backgrounds, viewing it as the foundation for sustainable progress in Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole; a commitment that is evident in the Governor’s inclusive appointments.

According to the Press Secretary, Governor Soludo’s administration has consistently demonstrated that good governance transcends ethnic divisions and is anchored in the common good of every individual living in the state, pointing out that the award reflects the Governor’s dedication to fostering an inclusive society where both indigenes and non-indigenes can flourish together.

Presenting the award earlier, Dr. Kingsley Agu, representing the Association of Non-Indigenes Welfare, praised Governor Soludo’s policies focused on improving social infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities, and promoting peaceful coexistence among Anambra’s diverse population.

# The Police Campaign Against Cultism and other Vices team in collaboration with the Anambra State Police Command is in partnership to fight crimes and anti social behavior this yuletide season.

At a forum in Awka with the theme,”Promoting Peace, Preventing Crime This Christmas Season,’ the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security and Anti Cultism Mr.Cosmas Ezika spoke of the determination of the group to ensure a crime free Christmas and new year celebrations.

According to the SSA who is the State Chairman of POCACOV , all hands should be on deck to ameliorate criminality in the state.

He commended the state Police Force for its collaborative efforts which have yielded some positive results in combatjng crimes and criminality in the state.

# A prime suspect has been reportedly arrested in connection with the recent shocking incident in Omasi community, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State, where a young man’s room was reportedly drenched with petrol and set ablaze.

The suspect, Junior Okafor, was reportedly arrested in the early hours of Saturday, December 20, 2025, by a squad of the Agunechemba security outfit, Ayamelum Unit, led by the Unit Commander, Oseyi Makaranta.

According to information shared by a netizen and Chief Operating Officer of Ayamelum TV, Chukwuma Okafor (#Ebubenna), the arrest of the suspect followed period of intensive manhunt after he reportedly went into hiding shortly after the incident.

# A student of St. Charles College, Onitsha, Ikechukwu Ifechukwu, has emerged the winner of the 2025 edition of the Healthy Living Cooking Competition, organised by the wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo.

The annual event, held at the Banquet Hall of the Light House in Awka, brought together students from schools across all 21 local government areas of the state.

Participants were tasked with preparing a recipe and several delicacies from start to finish within one hour and twenty minutes. They were assessed on hygiene, food taste, plating, and service manner.

At the grand finale, Ifechukwu and his partner, representing Onitsha zone, defeated female contestants from Aguata and Nnewi zones, who finished second and third, respectively.

# Anambra State Government has recorded an impressive 70 percent budget performance for the 2024 financial year, reflecting prudent financial management, effective revenue mobilisation and responsible public spending.

The State Auditor-General, Akosa Okocha, disclosed this during the Audit Forum and Citizens Accountability Dialogue on the 2024 State Financial Statements, noting that the state not only met but exceeded its revenue expectations for the year.

According to the audited figures presented, Anambra surpassed its projected revenue by over N92.81 billion, representing a 33.21 per cent increase above the budget estimate. Actual expenditure for the year amounted to N292.41 billion, which was N117.72 billion or 28.70 per cent below the approved budget of N410.13 billion. The outcome translated to a budget performance rate of over 70 per cent for the year under review.

Okocha explained that the funds generated in 2024 were channelled into critical development sectors, contributing to infrastructure delivery, improved public services and overall socio-economic development across the state.

He also highlighted significant progress in accountability and financial control, revealing that unresolved audit queries across Ministries, Departments and Agencies reduced to about N750 million in 2024.

This marked a major improvement when compared to the N2.5 billion unresolved queries recorded in the 2023 financial year. He attributed the achievement to proactive audit measures, early intervention and improved cooperation from MDAs, many of which had already submitted documents to clarify outstanding issues.

The Auditor-General stressed that his office continued to play a central role in strengthening checks and balances in public finance management, covering budgeting, implementation, accounting, documentation and post-audit follow-up. He noted that lapses and breaches were increasingly being detected early and corrected, resulting in better compliance and improved governance outcomes.
