* Anambra state government through Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, has sealed off the popular Tomato Market, Obosi, in Idemili North LGA. ANN reports that the seal was as a result of the recent directive of the state government to relocate the market to a new site at Power Mike, Atani in Ogbaru Local Government Area. Addressing the market leadership shortly after sealing the market, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere said the state government is relocating the market because it is now overcrowded and has provided a better and conducive site for the traders to transact and do their businesses.
* Stakeholders at a one-day Covid-19 engagement and orientation meeting in Awka have called for all hands to be on deck to improve the coverage of COVID-19 in Anambra state. The meeting which is supported by Canada Global Initiative for Vaccine Equity, CanGive, grant and World Health Organization, WHO, was attended by various religious groups, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the academia, representatives of the Muslim community, people from the private sector, the media, among others.
* The youths of Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State in a peaceful protest on Friday expressed their displasure over irregularities confronting the forthcoming President-General election slated to hold on the 27th of December 2023. Angel Network News reports that the protest which was led by Comrade Chibuike Okwaji, the Youth leader of Nimo community gathered huge crowd who were calling for a free, fair and credible election.
* Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has called on Churches in the state to pray and support the administration of Professor Chukwuma Soludo for all-round development of the state. The Deputy Governor made the call during a festival of carols and nine lessons at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church Ivite Aguleri in Anambra East Council Area.
* Two hundred and fifty old people in Anambra State have benefitted from the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Elder Support Scheme (RHIESS). The event, which took place at the Governor’s Lodge, Awawbia, is part of programme arm of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a non-governmental humanitarian organization founded by wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The two hundred and fifty old people, aged sixty-five and above, were selected from different parts of the state, following strict health, age and economic status criteria for those who are eligible for the programme.
* The National Coordinator of All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA) Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, has tackled the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Prof Peter Umeadi, over the latter’s comment that he is the face of APGA in Nigeria. Umeadi was recently reported to have boasted that as the face of APGA in Nigeria that he would support Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his ( Ubah’s ) bid to vie for the governor of Anambra State in 2023.
* The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Nando ward 3 has emerged victorious in a football tournament organized for all the ward branches of the party in Anambra East Local Government Area. Angel Network News reports that Nando ward 3 defeated Nsugbe Ward 2 with two goals to nothing to lift the coveted prize. The Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, who sponsored the competition, expressed excitement at the turnout at the event, noting that it was important for members of APGA to come together and foster a sense of unity and camaraderie.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured that his administration will continue to support ex- servicemen in the state as their contribution to national security and development is enormous.
The Anambra state Governor gave the assurance during emblem appeal fund launching in commemoration of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at Government House, Awka. Soludo who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim commended the ex-servicemen for sacrifices made for the wellbeing of the Nigerian Nation throughout their service years, and thanked God for sparing their lives till date.
* The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Command commenced its 2023 Christmas and New Year special patrols in the state on Friday. Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, the State Sector Commander of FRSC, disclosed this during the command’s visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Winco Foam Nigeria Limited, Dr Godwin Okafor, at his office in Awka, Anambra State.
