* Non-Governmental Organization, ‘Selfless For Africa’ in conjunction with Igwebuike Social Club of Onitsha in Anambra State has splashed Christmas gifts and items, mainly foodstuffs worth about N15m to 510 indigent persons in Onitsha North Local Government Area. Dr. Dueze Emmanuel, representative of the NGO that bankrolled the Christmas empowerment program said the items each of the beneficiaries went home with were consist of 10kg bag of rice, 12 tins of tomato paste, a gallon of vegetable oil, a role of curry, a packet of salt, a role of thyme and one fowl.

* In its bid to ensure that taxes, levies and rates are utilized in the best interest of the state, a Non-Governmental Organization, Social and Integral Development Centre, SIDEC, is intensifying efforts towards getting the citizens and the government to discharge their statutory obligations in the most efficient manner. The visit undertaken under the Tax for Service project was in partnership with the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room with funding support from of the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO).

* Ndi Anambra have been charged to rally round the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to enable him deliver on his lofty objectives. A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Awka, Chief Obi Ochije Modilim disclosed this while speaking to Newsmen. Chief Ochije Modilim who extolled the leadership qualities of Governor Soludo, commended him for the giant strides his administration has attained in less than two years in office.

* The father of Professor Chukwuma Soludo has been laid to rest. The funeral ceremony was carried out in compliance with the Anambra State Burial law 2019. Angel Network News reports that late Pa Simeon Nwankwo Soludo funeral mass was held at St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Isuofia and was celebrated by Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke. The Late Pa Soludo who passed on at age 92, was survived by seven children, twenty seven grand children, seven great grand children and eight daughters-in-law.

* Anambra journalists numbering about 14 on Saturday escaped death, when police operatives deployed to a disputed land (Agu Nawgu), shot at Awka indigenes who were protesting the occupation of their land by the operatives. The indigenes of Awka community, especially from Ezinano area, made of mostly of youths were on a visit to the land, in the company of the journalists, when the police operatives opened fire  on them. Journalists who were on coverage scampered to safety when the police operatives started shooting to scare the visiting Awka indigenes. They were however calmed by the invading youths who were said to have fortified themselves against bullets, while the journalists fled the scene.

* The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Anambra State Chapter has commended the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr. Ossy Onuko for his support toward the success of their National Convention.

NANS’ National Convention was recently held in Abuja leading to the emergence of new executive with Mr Ernest Okafor elected as the Director of Sports. Receiving students in his office in Awka, the ACTDA Managing Director, Mr. Onuko congratulated members of the Association for winning the position out of the three members from the state that contested.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, has announced plan to bring together groups that are committed to the fight against child trafficking and other rights abuses for them to work together for a common goal. Obinabo, who announced this when Human Rights and Road Safety Awareness Team paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Awka, said the society needs the collaboration now that more volunteers are needed to address rising cases of rights abuses.

* Anambra State Council of Traditional Prime Ministers has honoured the state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim with a distinguished honours award for his contributions to the development of herbal medicine in Anambra state, when he was the Special Adviser on Indigenous Medicine and Herbal Practice during the previous administration of Governor Willie Obiano. He received the award during the end of the year party and distinguished honours award ceremony of the group held at Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area.

* Asphalting has commenced on the Ezira Umuomaku-Enuguumuonyia-Achina road. Men of TAMAD construction company, the firm handling the project were seen laying asphalt on one side of the road from kilometer one towards Enugu-Umuonyia. Other heavy-duty equipment like roller were seen leveling the asphalt and sprinkling water on it at the same time.
