# Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) at the NMA Hall domiciled inside COOUTH, Amaku, Campus, hosted its Maiden COOU Policy Discourse Series, focusing on “Sub-National Budgets and Public Policy Realities: Understanding the Fiscal Choices in Anambra State’s ₦757.9 Billion 2026 Budget Proposal”.

The event brought together policymakers, scholars, professional bodies and civil society actors to critically examine fiscal governance and development planning at the sub-national level.

In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of COOU, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, described the discourse as a strategic expression of the University’s guiding philosophy of the 3Vs—Values, Viability and Visibility, stressing that COOU was intentionally positioning itself as the “Now University and of the Future”.

She noted that the platform reflected the University’s resolve to move beyond the classroom by deploying knowledge to address real policy challenges, promote ethical public finance and strengthen evidence-based governance.

# Members of Nnewi South Legislative Council has paid a congratulatory visit to Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu in recognition of his landslide victory at the August 16th Anambra South Senatorial bye-election, as well as his budding leadership prowess, service and selfless commitment to the progress of our people since his swearing-in as a member of the Nigerian Senate.

The visit, which featured the presentation of a cow to the Senator as a symbol of honour, respect and goodwill, as well as presentation of picture frame of the Senator, reflects the deep appreciation of members of Nnewi South Legislative Council for his contributions to governance and community development.

Speaking during the visit through the leader and deputy leader of the legislative arm of the local government, Rt. Hon. Donantus Emenike Okafor and Rt. Hon. Chidozie Venantius Okeke, the councillors reaffirmed their support for purposeful leadership and pledged continued collaboration in advancing the collective interests of Nnewi South and the larger society.

# Chairman of Emordi Shoe Dealers Association, Ochanja market, Onitsha, Hon. Okwudili Anigbogu escaped death by the whiskers as thugs allegedly loyal to a former market leader, Chief Nwabueze Umeh attacked him with dangerous weapons leaving him him in a pool of blood and gasping for breath.

Anigbogu, a former councilor in Njikoka Enugu Ukwu Ward II, stakeholder of APGA and member of the Soludo / Ibezim Campaign Council who worked for the re-election of Governor Soludo, was elected Chairman of the Emordi Shoe dealers alongside eight other executives on 20th November, 2025 in an election supervised by the officials of Onitsha South local government area.

Anambra state government through the Special Adviser on Markets Development, Chief Evarist Uba later nullified the election and inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the market.

Anigbogu and his group have since gone to court to challenge the action contending that they were duly elected with the mandate of the traders as a sub market association within Ochanja General main market.

# It was a celebration like no other as the Catholic Dioceses of Awka and Ekwulobia held a Christmas party, for their elderly priests to show them love and a sense of belonging.

The epoch-making event which took place at the Diocesan Priests’ Welfare Home, Awka, was also a part of activities to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Home.

In his remarks, the Bishop, who described the event as a thing of joy, highlighted the need for continuous thanksgiving for the lives of the elderly priests.

# The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Anambra State Branch, has held its last Congress for the year and also marked the end of 2025 in a grand style.

The end-of-the-year get-together preceded by the last Congress of the Union, had Judiciary workers from different stations in attendance, including the stakeholders and past and present officers of JUSUN, Anambra State Branch.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of JUSUN,  Anambra State Branch, Comrade Ezeoke Henry Ifeanyichukwu, expressed gratitude to God for His grace and mercies upon them, acknowledging that without God’s continued guidance and protection they would not have attained their height or seen the very last month of the year.

He thanked the JUSUN staff for what he called their unwavering commitment, steadfastness, resilience, cooperation, and support, assuring them that he would not renege on his mandate.

# The Dunukofia Games Festival 2025 is drawing to an exciting conclusion, with thrilling performances recorded across various sporting events, as Ukpo Community emerged dominant in the volleyball tournaments, securing victories in both the male and female categories.

In the male volleyball final, Ukpo defeated Ifitedunu to clinch the championship, while Ukpo also recorded another impressive victory in the female volleyball final, defeating Tenant-A to complete a double triumph.

Earlier in the competition, Tenant-B defeated Nawgu to clinch third position in the male volleyball, while Umudioka thrashed Nawgu to secure third position in the female volleyball category.

In female football, Ukpo further demonstrated its strength by defeating Ifitedunu to book a place in the final match. Ukpo will now face Umudioka, who earlier defeated Tenant-A, in what promises to be a highly competitive final.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Ify Obinabo has cleared the air over the stories and reactions trailing the actions of a young lady who allegedly started acting strange after she was allegedly dropped from a vehicle by unidentified persons in Awka, the capital city of the state.

Recall that a video recently started trending on different social media platforms, showing a lady who was said to be “acting strange” and “misbehaving” at the popular Aroma Junction in Awka.

The unidentified lady, as was captured in the video, was seen shoutingly and unwarrantedly addressing passersby with words that didn’t match and in a way that appeared strange to them, hence creating a scene, as people gradually gathered to watch and video her.

Obinabo, who also visited the scene to make further inquiries, said the accounts and details obtained from some of the eyewitnesses at Aroma Junction clearly suggest that the circumstances that resulted to the lady’s strange acts were totally different from the popular narrative being peddled online.

# A faith based Non-Governmental Organization, NGO, the Calvary Care Foundation, of the Diocese on the Niger, Anglican Communion, Anambra State, has announced the inclusion of the 120 scholarships earlier given to students of Gozie Anyachebelu Polytechnic, GOZPOLY, as part of its annual scholarship scheme beneficiaries.

The foundation, powered by the Calvary Chapel of the Diocese, has since 2014 given more than 300 scholarships to some of the beneficiaries who have long graduated from various tertiary institutions in the country.

Bishop on the Niger, the Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, disclosed the foundation’s philanthropy during the Chapel’s annual thanksgiving and Mission Foundation Day held at the Bishop’s Court, GRA, Onitsha, Sunday, December, 21, 2025.

Nwokolo, who briefly narrated a seeming History of both the Calvary Chapel and the foundation, underscored the philanthropic philosophy of the foundation and stressed the need for people to always give assistance to the less privileged.
