* The Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Felix Odimegwu in a statement has frowned at the act, calling on ndi Anambra
to protect and manage public infrastructures.

In a statement, the Commissioner said
“We observed with dismay that despite our warnings on the disintegrating and damaging effects of burning tyres on our roads, few unscrupulous individuals still did same yesterday night being eve of Christmas.

“We will not hesitate to prosecute any one caught doing so from henceforth. We must endeavour as good citizens to protect and manage our public infrastructures for the common good of all.

“The Government spends billions of money to construct these roads. Moreso the cost of maintaining the roads are also quite huge. Hence, it will be foolhardy for us to engage in actions/activities that contribute to the disintegration and destruction of the roads, as burning of Tyres on the roads would do.

“Ndi Anambra are invited to join the government in spreading this information and go further towards stopping anyone who has intentions of burning tyres on the roads. Environmental protection and sustainability is everyone’s business.

* The member representing Onitsha North one constituency at Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka has been kidnapped.

Hon. Azuka was kidnapped while returning home at Ugwunapampa, In-land town, Onitsha.

Confirming the incident, Anambra State police command through the PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement said that efforts were on to rescue the abducted lawmaker.

According to Ikenga, Azuka was kidnapped on December 24th while returning home at Ugwunapampa, In-land town, Onitsha.

* The attention of Anambra State Government has been drawn to the indiscriminate burning of tyres on the tarred roads across the state.

In view of this, the state government, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Dr Law Mefoh, said it is dissatisfied with this move by Ndi Anambra and their visitors for wasting the huge resources it expended to provide access roads to its citizenry.

The statement warned that going forward, anyone caught burning tyres or supporting the act of burning tyres on the road will face the full wrath of the law.

It urged Ndi Anambra to enjoy their celebration without causing harm to either themselves or the government.

* The President General of Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU) Engr. Dan Anakpe Zeelunjo has called for peace, love and unity of purpose ahead of next year 2025.

Engr. Zeelunjo who was the Chief Host of
Nimo Day 2024 celebration held on Thursday December 26th at Egwegwe Square in Nimo Community, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, in his remark thanked God for the progress recorded this year 2024.

Nimo day which is an annual event attracted prominent sons and daughters of Nimo, age grades, different dance groups and masquerades.

The celebration had Hon. Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, the Chairman of Njikoka local government area, as the
Special Guest of Honour.

Deputy Minority Whip of the 10th National Assembly, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinaobi,
Deputy Majority Leader Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Jude Akpua were also special guest of the event.

* Labour Party aspirant for the 2025 Governorship election in Anambra State, Mr John Chuma Nwosu has decried the spate of stampedes recorded across different parts of the country while people tried to get Christmas food items from well meaning Nigerians.

Nwosu, also a philantropist in a statement in Awka expressed great sorrow over the reported incidents and described the situation as most unfortunate.

He said such incidents calls for deeper pauses especially , since they are reflections of the severe hunger, deprivation and poverty plaguing the nation.

* The Anambra State Law Revision Committee has submitted its report to the state government through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje.

Receiving the report in Awka, Commissioner Ifemeje described it as a landmark achievement in the justice sector, adding that the review is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s mandate on expeditious dispensation of justice, as most of the laws are obsolete and needed to be in tune with current trends and realities.

Ifemeje informed that she will submit the report to Governor for onward transmission to the Anambra State House of Assembly for “blanket approval”, adding that efforts are on to make Anambra laws available online for easy access.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Anambra State Law Revision Committee, Justice Ijem Onwuamaegwu, represented by a member of the committee and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ifeanyi Obiakor, explained that enormous work involved made their work linger beyond the initial six-month deadline, adding that having successfully reviewed about 300 laws by members of the committee, Anambra State will now have current laws properly updated when approved by the legislature.

* Police Operatives attached to the Inland Town Divison have recovered the vehicle of the member representing Onitsha North one Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Hon. Azuka was kidnapped on the 24th of December 2024 by 9:20pm, while returning home at Ugwunapampa road, Onitsha by yet unidentified persons.

According to a press release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State Command, the separate rescue team sighted the abandoned vehicle at Upper Iweka Road.

Meanwhile Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has charged the deployed rescue team to intensify efforts for the possible rescue of the Honourable member.

* The Wife of Ikemba Nnobi, Dr Thelma Ezeonu has hosted children across the Nnobi community and environs to a Christmas party.

The party which was held at the Ifite Ogbeadiji square, Nnobi, was fun filled with different games and gift items for the children including over 500 different designers school bags, lunch box set with water bottle.

In her remarks, the sponsor, Dr Mrs Ezeonu, said that this year children’s christmas is a funfair for the children and encouraged the children to show love with their actions to their parents, siblings and people around them.

She advised parents and guardians to also promote and show love to those around them, the less privileged and in their various home’s.

* Security team comprising of Police and AVG Operatives have arrested one Pablo Mamu ‘M’ aged 38years from Ughelli, Delta State and recovered one OFN rifle, one locally made pistol, one live 9mm Ammunition, eight live cartridges and one black Lexus 330 jeep with a different plate number Abuja reg nos: ABJ 159 LC and Enugu JRV 928 SX.

According a press statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State Command that the Joint Security Team acted on credible information provided, burst the suspect in his harbor and during a search conducted the above exhibits were found.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itamwhile commending the synergy between the security operatives and the vigilance of the public in providing actionable intelligence, emphasizes the importance of continued collaboration to ensure the safety and security of all residents during and after this festive season.

 

* Some members of staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka have protested unpaid salaries, calling the attention of the Federal Government to their plight.

They revealed that since they were employed in 2019 and 2020, they have not been paid their salaries leaving them in a terrible situation.

Speaking on behalf of other protesters in front of the Administration Building of the University, Mr. JK Ibezim, from the Department of Chemical Engineering said they have lost seven of their members just this year alone due to the suffering exacerbated by the country’s economic woes.
