* Anambra State Chapter of the Labour Party has commended Chief Victor Umeh and Dr Tony Nwoye for what they are doing in the Senate. The party also hailed the governor of Abia State, Gov. Alex Otti, for his good works in Abia. The State Chairman of Labour Party, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh, made the commendations at a press conference in Awka, the state’s capital.
* Ndi Anambra have been charged to rally round the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to enable him deliver on his lofty objectives. A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Awka, Chief Obi Ochije Modilim disclosed this while speaking to Newsmen. Modilim who extolled the leadership qualities of Governor Soludo, commended him for the giant strides his administration has attained in less than two years in office.
* The Lawmaker representing Awka North/South Federal Constituency at the lower Chamber of the National Assembly, Prof. Oby Orogbu said her interest in joining politics is to assist in liberating ndi Anambra people from unwanted hunger and other challenges in the society. Orogbu while speaking in Awka recently revealed that she has empowered over 200 households in her Constituency within six months in office.
* Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Mrs. Nonye marked their 31st wedding anniversary with a thanksgiving mass at their residence in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area. The event which doubled as a celebration of institution of marriage also saw the Governor expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all who joined them for the occasion. Soludo acknowledged the high rate of failed marriages but was quick to attribute the longevity of his union to God’s abundant blessings and grace.
* In demonstrating the significance of women in Igbo culture, Otu Odu Abba has held its Igba Odu ceremony. The event which held at Abba Civic Centre, in Njikoka council area of Anambra, had their members and those from other communities dress in white attire with the paranaphelia of their titles.
* Traders at building materials market, Ogidi, Ogbunike, Idemili and Oyi LGA Anambra State, have protested alleged extortion and threat to seal their shops by personnel of Standard Organization of Nigeria. Some of the traders carried placards with the inscriptions; “SON enough is enough, say no to illegal extortion by SON; SON stop intimidating us; SON stop demanding money from us, among others. Addressing newsmen who stormed the scene, the spokesperson of the traders and Chairman of Marvelous Line, Mr Kenneth Ofoegbunam said that SON came into their markets to impound their goods and seal some shops claiming that the traders refused to pay N8 million demanded from them.
* Anambra State Chapter of the Labour Party has said that nemesis will catch up with the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, for working against the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2023 general elections. The State Chairman of Labour Party, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh, stated this at a press conference in Awka, the state’s capital. ANN recall that Soludo had in the buildup to the 2023 general elections authored an epistle titled: ‘History beckons and I will not be silent (1) wherein he amongst other things dissuaded Ndigbo and others from voting for Peter Obi.
* The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Maduka Okeke, has assured that the newly approved university for the Archdiocese, Shanahan University, will not only be for the rich. ANN reports that Archbishop Okeke while speaking at the Onitsha Correctional Centre, also said the university will partner with the best universities in the world.
* In a display of tradition and cultural heritage, Ajalli community in Orumba North Local Government Area has celebrated her 2023 Ajalli Day. The spectacle, unfolded as distinguished sons and daughters of the community at home and in the diaspora gathered at the arena to partake in the festivity.
* Two hundred and fifty old people in Anambra State have benefitted from the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Elder Support Scheme. The event, which took place at the Governor’s Lodge, Awawbia, is part of programme arm of the Renewed Hope Initiative a non-governmental humanitarian organization founded by wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The two hundred and fifty old people, aged sixty-five and above, were selected from different parts of the state, following strict health, age and economic status criteria for those who are eligible for the programme.
* Anambra state Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo has officially signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill into law. Angel Network News reports that the 2024 budget themed “Changing Gears: The Transformation Agenda Begins” is N410, 132, 225, 272 naira.
