* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has restated that the Onitsha River Port is critical to the economy of Anambra State and Nigeria at large, reason his administration is committed to making it operational.

The Governor spoke when the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Pieter Leenknegt, visited the Onitsha Port.

Governor Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Mrs Patricia Igwebuike, noted that about sixty to seventy percent of containers with goods enter the South East by road through Onitsha, saying that dredging the River Niger, which requires about twenty billion naira, will enable more businesses to thrive in the area.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Nonye as a perfect match in terms of family life, training and public service.

Felicitating the Anambra State Number One Family as they mark their 32nd marriage anniversary, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that Governor Soludo and his wife, Nonye have given governance in the State a human face, evident in the numerous development achievements they have recorded in the State.

The Speaker enjoined Ndi Anambra especially politicians to intensify support to Governor Soludo’s administration in order to move the State to enviable heights.

He maintained that the 32 years of marriage between Governor Soludo and his wife, Nonye has been fruitful in all ramifications, adding that the marriage has continued to grow in love, peace and unity with wonderful children from God.

* The hoodlums who set the country home of the President-General of Mbosi community Hon. Azuka Innocent Okolie in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State are now in trouble as the President General has vowed to fish them out to face the consequences of the actions against his community.

This is coming as the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has deployed X-Squad operatives led by CSP Emeka Chukwuemeka former PPRO of the State Command for patrol and charges them as well as Compliant response unit and control room operatives on timely response.

Same hoodlums may have been responsible for burning down the house of the incumbent federal lawmaker representing Ihiala Federal Constituency Rt. Hon. Dr. Paschal Arinzechukwu Agbodike also in Mbosi community.

* Anambra State Government has expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the 2024 Traders Sports Competition, applauding its organization and goal of uniting traders.

Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, commended the competition’s progression from preliminary to final stages, culminating in the final soccer tournament between Bridgehead market and Oraeri FC at the City Sports Stadium, Awka.

Mr. Ezeajughi extolled the competitive final match between Bridgehead and Oraeri FC, emphasizing that unity is key. He highlighted Governor Soludo’s achievements in security, road networks, human capital development, and governance. Ezeajughi also commended the state’s recreational facilities, urging Ndi Anambra to support the governor’s agenda of unity and progress.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Anthony Ifeanya says henceforth, miners without complete mining documents will be proscribed as illegal, arrested, and made to face Environment Protection Law.

Ifeanya made this remark during the 2024 stocktaking meeting with staff of his ministry.

The Commissioner listed the documents to include lease papers, Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA, Community Development Agreement, evidence of tax payment, and remedial plan.

Ifeanya, who announced that his ministry will embark on an aggressive monitoring and supervision of activities within the Petroleum and Mining sectors in 2025, noted that it is aimed at ensuring that miners and petroleum product dealers conform to set standards.

* Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and Partners has held a one-day nonresidential stakeholders’ engagement and town hall meeting for routine immunization vaccine catch up exercise in Awka.

Addressing the gathering, the Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Health, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo noted that the meeting was to educate the stakeholders about the upcoming campaign which is meant to cover children between the ages of zero and fifty-nine months, children who had missed previous vaccines or had never been vaccinated.

The Director of Disease Control and Immunization in Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Nnamdi Uliagbafusi who asked parents and wards to bring out their children for the exercise, disclosed that it will commence this Friday and will last for six days to be held at designated health centres, community centres as well as other outreach centres.

* The Idemili North Local Government Area Executive Chairman, Chief Stanley Nkwoka has inaugurated a Special Health Emergency Response Team that will be on call throughout the Christmas yuletide and beyond to offer first aid and assist accident victims.

Nkwoka emphasized that the Christmas period is prone to accidents due to increased activity, vehicle traffic, and human movement.

He commended the health response initiative as timely and necessary to save lives. “This initiative is excellent. We’ll provide first aid and interventions to help accident victims, and in emergencies, please call the emergency toll-free numbers instead of taking pictures or videos every life matters.”

* The Mayor of Anaocha LGA, Hon. Rome Ibekwe, has extended humanitarian services to the Sickle Cell Orphanage home in Agulu.

Ibekwe donated essential items such as food, provisions, and toiletries to bring joy to the children during the yuletide season. Mr. Ibekwe emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and supporting those in need.

The Proprietor of Sickle Cell Orphanage Home, Agulu, Mrs. Aisha Edward, thanked Mr. Ibekwe for his kindness, revealing that he has been a consistent supporter of the orphanage, providing monthly financial aid. She applauded the reintroduction of skill acquisition training in the LGA, citing its potential to empower Anaocha youths, making them self-reliant and valuable to society.

Mrs. Edward presented handmade crafts by the Sickle Cell orphans to Mr. Ibekwe and requested that he consider including the trained children in his empowerment programs.

 

* Harsh economy has forced some residents of the commercial city of Onitsha to venture into farming.

They now cross the Nkisi River to Omalili layout in Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government Area to cultivate cassava.

Mrs Oluchukwu Onwe who has ventured into Garri processing as her tailoring business no longer yields enough for her family needs.

On her part, a young girl of twelve years Miss Kosarachi Ede emphasized that she is at home with Garri Processing.

 

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has visited 1 Youth 2 Skills TV media facility established for dissemination of information about Mr. Governor’s youth program in the state.

Mefor on arrival at the Ministry of Youth Development Complex, said that he was appointed the commissioner for Information, three months ago, adding that the first thing he did was to visit the media establishment in the state.

He emphasized the need to change the narrative of reportage in the state, saying that it is easy to market a good product as Mr. Governor has done so well without borrowing money in the last 32 months.
