* Nnamdi Azikiwe University Volleyball Club has emerged champions of the fourth edition of the Stephanie Ooja Nnebeife Memorial Foundation (SONMFO) Volleyball mix tournament. ANN reports that the two-day competition held from Tuesday, 26th to Wednesday, 27th December 2023 at the Alex Ekwueme Square Aroma, Awka featured nine Volleyball clubs in the South East zone placed in three groups of round robin format comprising of UNIZIK Volleyball Club from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Refiners VB club from Washington Memorial Grammar School Onitsha and Ultimate VB club of Onitsha placed in Group A.

* Professor Chukwuma Soludo on behalf of the Government and people of Anambra State, grieves the untimely passing away of His Excellency, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Angel Network News reports that Akeredolu died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the age of 67.

* Amawbia, a community in Awka-South Local Government Area where the headquarters of Anambra State Police Command, the Nigeria Correctional Service, the local government headquarters and other federal and state agencies are situated, is set to elect a new traditional ruler to fast track development in the community. It would be recalled that the stool of Okpalaigwe Amawbia became vacant in September 2021 and the last Ofala festival for the late Igwe was observed in August 2022; hence the community had no traditional ruler eversince and some of the incentives that could have come to the community through the traditional institution had eluded it due to vacancy in the Okpalaigwe dynasty. Hence the need for the Igweship election slated for 30th December, 2023, where seven contestants duly screened by the Okpalaigwe in Council and others are already rooting vigorously to be elected to serve Ndi-Amawbia on the throne of their forefathers.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has reiterated her commitment to running with the vision of Governor Charles Soludo which harps on gender equality and social Inclusion towards tackling matters affecting women in the council area. Hon. Amaka Obi stated that despite the achievement made so far in the council area, her renewed goal is to lead Idemili South in a result-oriented, proactive and innovative approach, noting that the council will enhance its services through creating effective solutions to the challenges faced by women.

* Professor Chukwuma Soludo has signed into law the bill repealing Anambra Publishing and Newspaper Printing Corporation. Angel Network News reports that the bill for a law to repeal the Anambra State newspaper and printing corporation 1994 and to provide for related matters was passed into law at plenary on the 14th of December 2023. The existence of the longest existing government owned newspaper in the country on Wednesday December 27th was finally nailed when Soludo signed the document.

* In recognition of his outstanding contributions to social innovation, the Managing Director/ CEO, Anambra State ICT Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, has been honored with a distinguished award by the Pivot team.
The award which was presented at the Agency’s office in Awka, underscores Mr. Agbata’s crucial role in harnessing technology for positive transformation in Southeast Nigeria.

* The Oyi Local Government Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Harold Umunna Maduka has commended member representing Oyi and Ayamelum in Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Maureen Gwacham for the Christmas packages she distributed in the federal constituency. While commending Hon. Maureen Gwacham, he said that since she took the mantle of leadership, she has been doing very well, stating that the beneficiaries were full of appreciation to Hon. Maureen Gwacham for remembering them and making this year’s yuletide a memorable one for them.

* The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, has affirmed that only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile and that service to others is the rent one pays for his room here on Earth. The APGA National Chairman, joined by his amiable wife Mrs. Amara Ezeokenwa, spoke at the commissioning of the donated male dormitory at Community High School, Akwaeze, Anocha LGA, by Chief Sir Ikenna K. Okafor, KSS (Ide Akwaeze), in commemoration of the 10th year memorial of late Chief Paulinus Okafor and the 10th Anniversary of the Idi Ezeani Nzekwuabuo Foundation.

* Awka South Local Government Area Transition Committee Chairman, Hon. ThankGod A. Anagor, has conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, and his wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, on the joyous occasion of their 31st wedding anniversary. In a warm message, Hon. Anagor expressed his sincere prayers for the continuous abundance of Gods grace and blessings on them.
