* The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs as well as Anambra State Association of Town Unions monitored the election that produced Engineer Christian Okoyeudor as the elected the President General, Awgbu Progressive Union in Orumba North local government area.

Engr Okoyeudor was elected unopposed by the people of Awgbu community after two other aspirants, Mr Alloysius Nduka and Uchenna Obiekwe stepped down for him during the election held at Awgbu Abonato Town Hall amid tight security.

Other members of the Executive include Mr Hyginus Ezene, Vice President General, Mr Chekwube Ezealor Secretary, Mr Martin Anosike, Assistant Secretary, Evangelist Ezekiel Nwachukwu, Financial Secretary, Mr Metu Ifediba, Treasurer, Jideofor Ogbunibala, PRO, Mr Sunday Okoli Assistant PRO, Mr Chika Ejieme Chief Provost, Chukwudi Okeke Assistant Provost.

Speaking after taking the oath of office, Engineer Okoyeudor assured that he will work in accordance the constitution of the community and called on the people of Awgbu to rally around him and his Executive to enable them to actualize their vision for the community.

* The Mayor of Onitsha North LGA, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, has commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for awarding key road construction projects in Onitsha North.

Among the notable projects are the Trans-Nkisi Boulevard 1 road in GRA, seven major roads in the Omagba Community, and the reconstruction of the New Market Road, all with specific timelines for completion.

Speaking on the development, Mayor Nwora described Gov. Soludo’s administration as a transformative force for Anambra State, praising its commitment to infrastructure development and improved living conditions for residents.

“The ongoing road projects are critical for the residents of Onitsha North and will significantly contribute to the economic growth of the state upon completion,” Nwora noted.

* Senator Uche Ekwunife has commissioned a solar-powered ultramodern market complex and an ultramodern Primary Health Centre which she built for her husband’s community, Nri, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

While handing over the complex to the President General of the community,
Ekwunife stated that she has always had a heart for her people and that she cannot afford not to keep looking out for the welfare of her people whether she is running elections or not and whether she is in government or not.

Ekwunife prayed that the community uses the facilities optimally for the betterment of the lives of the people.

* Attorney General of Anambra State and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, says the Anambra State Correctional Service Bill 2024, which is before the state legislature, will stand the test of time when passed and signed into law.

Speaking in Abuja during a “State-Federal Level Governance Dialogue on Correctional Administration and other related Issues”, Professor Ifemeje said the bill is in line with international best practices in correctional service, and will help in effective management of correctional facilities in the state when passed into law.

Ifemeje explained that the Law is in line with the 2023 amendment of the constitution which removed Correctional Service from Exclusive to Concurrent Legislative list.

* Gunmen have reportedly killed a Roman Catholic priest of Nnewi Diocese, Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Tobias Chukwujekwu Okonkwo.

It was gathered that Okonkwo, a native of Ekwulumili in Nnewi South Local Government Area (LGA) and pharmacist by profession, was killed on December 26 at Ihiala, along Onitsha-Owerri expressway.

According to a statement from the Chancellor, Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Rev. Fr. Raphael Ezeogu, the death which occurred around 8pm, increased sorrow in their hearts.

* The Mayor of Orumba South Local Government Area, Hon. Shedrack
Azubuike, said he decided to use his ‘Nwabugo Empowerment Foundation’ to show love to others, and urged people of the area to key into the public-private-community-partnership development model of the Governor Soludo in order to speed up development of the area.

The Orumba South Mayor declared that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is the only party in the state and the local government because Governor Chukwuma Soludo has shown more love to his people by constructing over 40 percent of roads in the area, saying it would be reciprocated in 2025.

People from the 15 communities in Orumba South Local Government Area, and about a thousand school children, received 10kg bags of rice and school bags respectively during a get-together in Umunze hosted by the Mayor of the local government, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike.

 

* The Member Representing Nnewi North Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Augustine Onyekachukwu Ike-Ikedoji has mourn the death of Fr. Tobias Chukwujekwu Okonkwo.

Fr. Okonkwo was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Ihiala, along Onitsha-Owerri expressway on 26th December 2024 at about 8 pm.

In his tribute, the lawmaker wrote “My heart is wounded, broken and dropping blood THE SECOND TIME I AM THROWN INTO SHOCK IN ONE YEAR, but this time around my classmate and bosom friend; Fr. Ozo was shot dead in Ihiala yesterday 26th December, 2024.

* Miss Mmesoma Precious Okonkwo of Ezeawulu village has won the 2024 Ada Nibo Pageant after defeating the five other contestants with 325 points.

The event organized at Nibo Civic Center in Awka South LGA by Posh Productions in collaboration with Urban Tribe Magazine Limited attracted people from within and outside Nibo community, who were thrilled by the displays of intellect, Igbo rich culture, and talents showcased by the contestants.

The organizer of the event, Mr Onyebuchi Ezeagabo explained that the Ada Nibo Pageant is a medium through which they showcase Igbo rich culture and tradition to the world, and empower the women, regretting that women are relegated to the background in today’s society and called for a change of perception towards them.

The winner of the contest, Miss Okonkwo thanked the organizers for providing her with the platform to display her talents and promised to use her new position to champion the course of the girl child and contribute her quota effecting positive change in the society.

* Bishop Sam Chidoka, who is one of the brothers of Chief Osita Chidoka, a former Nigeria’s minister of aviation, has counselled the youths in Obosi to identify their talents and put them to good use so as to realize their potentialities and achieve their manifest destinies.

Bishop Chidoka, who is an investment banker and a man of the cloth, gave them the admonition during his presentation of speech on the occasion of the Obosi youth conference, which took place at the Obosi town hall.

The Obosi Youth Conference, which was the first of its kind in the Obosi kingdom, was designed to refocus the minds of the youths on education, help them to learn trade and acquire skills, and re-direct them to the path of moral righteousness.

During the youth conference, resource persons, who were drawn from diverse fields of human endeavours, gave electrifying and enriching lectures to the youths.

 

* The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander has paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Igwe A.V. Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha.

Commander Alexander during the visit,
expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and thanked the Igwe for his ongoing support of FRSC Anambra State.
She emphasized the mission of the FRSC, which is to reduce road traffic crashes and create a safe motoring environment.

In his response, His Royal Majesty,
Igwe Achebe welcomed the Sector Commander on behalf of the Onitsha community and acknowledged her as the 15th Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State.

Achebe shared his experiences with the FRSC and called for greater public education aimed at drivers, particularly targeting transport owners (fleet operators), to ensure they are held accountable for any unprofessional conduct on the road.
