* In a show of solidarity and cooperation, the Soludo Support Group (SSG) Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, led by Chief Chinedu Nwoye, deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor has paid a courtesy visit to Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, the Mayor of Njikoka. 

In his remark, Nwoye, Convener and National Coordinator of SSG emphasized the importance of collaboration between the group and local authorities. 

Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, also the Nimo Ward II Coordinator of SSG, welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the group’s support. 

* Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has assured that the man who allegedly assaulted his wife and left her in a near-death condition would face full justice.

 

Soludo’s wife gave the assurance after she visited the victim at a hospital in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area, where she is currently receiving medical treatments.

When she visited the private medical facility where the woman had been taken to, the governor’s wife, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, spoke with the doctor who confirmed that the woman had received adequate treatment for the injuries sustained on her face and head. 

The First Lady, after speaking with the victim, sorted out her full bills, and immediately made arrangements to take up a job with Orumba North Local Council Area, from where she could make sustainable earnings to take care of her two kids. 

* Son of Nigeria’s first senate president, 

Onwa Nwafor Orizu, has declared his intention to contest for Anambra South senatorial election billed for January, 2025.

The vacuum was created following the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who was buried recently in Nnewi, Anambra state. 

In a ceremony at his Otolo-Nnewi country home, Prince Orizu, an Abuja based business mogul, said he is fit and experienced to occupy the vacant position, having closely followed the political journey of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, and that of his father, who was Nigeria’s senate president in the first republic. 

* Chief Edozie Njoku said he has resolved to abide by the Supreme Court judgment which removed him as national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Reacting to the judgment at a news conference in Abuja, Njoku said he believed in the rule of law and the verdict of the court.

Njoku said as democrats, his removed executive members believed in the unity of Nigeria. He maintained that there would be anarchy in the states and the country if citizens decided to choose the judgments to obey or not to obey.

He commended the Supreme Court and its justices for following the right path in the journey. He also commended the people of Anambra for keeping calm and accepting the court judgment in good faith, saying there must be an end to litigation.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called for a collaborative efforts by governments and well meaning individuals to map out measures to improve the living standard of persons with disabilities in line with the International best practices relating to  provision of opportunities for persons with various disabilities.

Felicitating as the global community marks this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Udeze commended the 6th Anambra State House of Assembly for enacting a law for the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in the State on 13th September, 2018, which he said, gave rise to the establishment of the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission on 3rd December, 2021.

The Speaker who called on the National Assembly and State legislatures in the country to emulate the Anambra State House of Assembly by coming up with policies and legislation aimed at providing a better life for persons with disabilities, lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo for all his assistance to the Disability Rights Commission in the State especially his recent equipping of the  Commission with cutting edge digital tools to revolutionize the Commission’s advocacy and support for persons with disabilities.

* All hotels in Anambra are by law expected to operate at international standards, as they are critical in achieving Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s objectives of making the state a tourism destination, smart mega city, and Dubai-Taiwan of Africa.

The Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, who stated this at a meeting with hoteliers in Awka, said the Soludo administration is doing its own part by encouraging the hospitality industry through provision of quality road network and other supporting facilities, urging them to recreate their businesses and re-strategize on marketing.

Chairman of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, AIRS, Dr Greg Ezeilo, who said that the hospitality industry is critical in raising the revenue profile of the state, urged continued collaboration of the hoteliers with the government.

* A front-line governorship aspirant of All Progressive Congress (APC), Sir Paul Chukwuma has promised to end insecurity, create jobs and improve food productivity in Anambra State if he wins the 2025 poll.

Chukwuma, a philanthropist and entrepreneur of repute, explained that his administration would leverage on community intelligence gathering, enforcement of extant laws and improve relationships with relevant stakeholders for speedy crimes detection, prevention and extermination.

The APC stalwart at a media parley with journalists in his country-home, Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area (LGA), maintained that his administration would empower the local vigilante in accordance with their law, police and other law enforcement agents to work harmoniously for restoration of peace and order.

* The Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AiRS) has denied any involvement in a tragic incident at Venn Road, Onitsha, which reportedly involved a tipper driver and individuals described as “Soludo revenue agents.”

In a statement, signed by management AiRS expressed condolences to the bereaved families and clarified that its investigations revealed the individuals involved were neither its staff nor affiliated with the agency.

The management of AiRS stated that it had engaged with the leadership of the Tipper Association in Anambra, which confirmed that none of the agency’s officials were connected to the incident.

The association has since urged its members to conduct their activities peacefully and avoid obstructing legitimate revenue operations.

* Anambra State governor has announced the abolition of widowhood practices in Anambra State.

This is coming as the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), under the Touch-A-Life Housing Initiative donated 10 sets of fully furnished two bedroom bungalows to 10 indigent widows in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Soludo who in company of wife of the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mrs Karimatu Mohammed Ali Pate, commissioned the buildings commended the chairman of the foundation, Sir Emeka Offor for his benevolence, calling on other well-to-do individuals to emulate the gesture.

He pledged enforcement of laws against oppressive practices in Anambra burial laws, including forceful shaving of widows’ hair; just as he promised to contribute to the widows’ upkeep through their cooperatives.

* The National Council For Women Societies Njikoka Chapter has paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Njikoka. The group was Led by Hon. Obioma Eucharia Oramalu JP coordinator and Comr. Chinenye Okey Ikedi, Secretary.

The union urged Mayor Njikoka to be gender sensitive in his appointment and pledged to support his administration. 

Mayor Njikoka, Hon. Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba welcomed the National Council For Women Societies Njikoka Chapter and promised to collaborate with the officers of the association. He also commended them for their efforts in propagating the right of women in the society. 

Hon. Barr Ononiba urged the association to educate their children on the economic transformational programs of Mr Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
