* Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji says the state government is committed to raising youths with multiple skills that will help the state reclaim its position in film making in Nigeria.
Comrade Onyenji gave the assurance when the Commissioner of Information, Dr Law Mefor and his Youth Development counterpart, Mr Patrick Agha Mba visited ANAWOOD Film Village in Awka where Anambra youths who are interested in acting are being trained.
Onyenji explained that the students who are being trained in various aspects of film making free of cost by Governor Chukwuma Soludo will after their training become film makers in Nigeria and that will give Anambra State an organic growth in film industry.
* The Chairman of Anaocha LGA, Comrade Rome Ibekwe has donated food and other items to the Sickle Cell Orphanage and underprivileged Home in Agulu.
While speaking, Comrade Ibekwe told the members of the home that it has been his desire to visit them and monitor their wellbeing and to make sure that they have access to quality medical attention and food.
The Mayor expressed satisfaction with what he met on ground and called on affluent members of the society to join hands in giving members of the home a better life.
Appreciating the Mayor and his team, the Director of the Home, Aisha Edward-Maduagwu thanked him for uplifting members of the group by paying their schools fees, taking care of their medical expenses, and ensuring they live a better life.
* A front-line governorship aspirant of All Progressive Congress (APC), Sir Paul Chukwuma, has said his ambition to govern Anambra state from 2025 was geared towards exterminating insecurity using community intelligence gathering and jobs creation.
Chukwuma at a media parley with journalists in his country-home, Umueri, Anambra East LGA explained that his administration would apply all the extant laws on security, including empowering the local vigilante, police and other law enforcement agents to work harmoniously for restoration of peace and order.
He regretted that Anambra state is currently engulfed in insecurity, especially kidnapping and killings, which according to him, was equally scaring away local and foreign investors amidst heavy taxation and high cost of living.
* Abia State indigenes resident in Anambra State have called on the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to lead in the campaign for the release of detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IBOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to reduce the security situation in the South East.
The grouo made the call when the President of Abia State indigenes in Anambra State, Comrade Damian Ogudike, and the President of Abia Ministers’ Forum in Anambra State, Bishop (Dr.) Innocent Chidi, addressed newsmen during their end of the year party held at Divine Hotel, Housing Estate, Fegge, Onitsha.
Bishop Chidi said it has become imperative that Governor Otti should lead the campaign for the release of Nnamdi Kanu because he is Kanu’s Governor.
* Chief Humphrey Anuna the President General of Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) has commended the Executives and entire Traders of Drymeat Preservers Traders Association (DMPTA) for uniting in peace to build their new market “Drymeat Preservers Traders Association (DMPTA) International Market Umunya Oyi LGA.
He noted that for the fact that his office the official head of all traders in the state did not receive any report of wrong doing or theft from any member of the market against the executives during the construction of the market showed that the executive did marvelously well and should be commended together with the entire traders of the market.
Making this commendation while speaking as the chief guest of honour during the official opening of the market which is situated along Enugu-Awka-Onitsha express way, Umunya, Anuna commending the resilience of traders of the market.
* Mr. Victor Onwudiegwu, has dragged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to court over refusal to issue him a driving license.
Onwudiegwu, who has hearing impairment applied for driving license at Agụta office of FRSC but was reportedly denied access to the license on the basis of him being deaf.
The chairman, Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (ASDRC), Barr Chuks Ezewuzie, who disclosed this at unveiling of agenda for the 2024 international day of persons with disabilities, said they have initiated legal actions on Onwudiegwu’s behalf through the Pro Bono lawyers of the agency.
* The Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) has stated that Mr. Enediong Bassey, who was arrested by the 3-3 Police Division with a pump-action rifle wrapped in a bag of rice at the Nkwelle-Ezunaka axis, was neither engaged nor captured as a member of the grassroots security outfit in the state.
In a statement issued by the media aide to AVG Head of Operations,Chinenye Ihenkor, Comrade Nweke Nweke on clarified that the individual arrested by the police is not a member of the State Vigilante Service.
He described the claim made by the suspect as false and mischievous.
According to him, Chief Chinenye Ihenkor (a.k.a. Okpompi), the AVG Head of Operations, thanked the police for apprehending the suspect and urged them to conduct proper interrogation to determine who may have engaged him as a vigilante member.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo says Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus will start enjoying power supply after twenty-one years of being without electricity.
Soludo made the promise during his one-day working visit to the campus in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to the Governor, Uli as a community will equally benefit from the intervention when completed. He said that even though the campus environment is orderly, it needs serious infrastructure upgrade.
* Grassroots representatives of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), under the name Odenigbo Political Vanguard, converged over the weekend to finalize plans to host the mother of all decampments to APGA.
The group plans to hold their mega endorsement rally for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s second-term election in the near future, believing it will hit the opposition elements in the state like a thunderstorm.
The convener of the group, Hon. Chukwudi Alex Umeaba while speaking during their preparatory meeting at the New Orleans Hotel, Udoka, Awka, stated that they only gathered a few of their members in preparation for their endorsement rally for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
Umeaba vowed that their group would never tolerate double-dealing or anti-party activities.
* The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government, Hon. Tony Nwora Nweze, has been honoured with the award of Best Friendly Mayor of the Year 2024.
Presenting the award, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pechilly Investigative Media, Ambassador Karen James, revealed that Hon. Tony Nwora Nweze was selected as the Best Friendly Mayor based on the recent online voting competition.
She explained that the online voting competition was organized by Pechilly Investigative Media in collaboration with the United Nations, the Egyptian Embassy, and other international bodies.
