# As part of activities marking the annual Benefactors’ Day celebration at Gonzaga Jesuit College, Okija, the Founder of the college and Chairman of the Obijackson Group, Chief Ernest Obiejesi, has commissioned three new buildings — a classroom block and two hostels — while also upgrading other academic facilities within the school.

The newly commissioned structures are part of ongoing efforts to improve the learning conditions of students and to strengthen the benefactor’s mission of providing world-class education, moral formation, and a conducive academic environment.

Benefactors’ Day is an annual tradition of the college dedicated to appreciating God for a successful academic year, celebrating the generosity of benefactors, and addressing key issues concerning the school community.

Addressing the students, Chief Obiejesi expressed delight in celebrating the special day with them, emphasizing the transformative power of education in a child’s life, and also called on the government to create an enabling environment for business owners to effectively carry out their corporate social responsibilities.

# The Anambra State ICT Agency says it will expand digital transmission next year (2026) as up to 40 different services are already digitised for the people to use in the state.

The Managing Director, Anambra State ICT Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata stated this while defending his agency’s 2026 Budget before the relevant House of Assembly Committee in Awka.

He said the State Civil Service has been empowered with high-speed broadband connectivity, having access to devices like laptops, printers and computers thereby putting to death the old days of going to business centers to do government works.

The ICT Boss noted that the Anambra State House of Assembly also benefit from high-speed connectivity for their work, likewise other institutions and agencies in the state while 22 smart schools are currently recieving attention.

# Young Progressive Party (YPP) have elected Sir. Paul Chukwuma, unanimously as its National Leader by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Chukwuma who was the candidate of the YPP, in the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship election, came third, ahead of LP and ADC

The unanimous conferment of the national leadership of Chukwuma took place during the 24th NEC meeting of the party in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

By this election, Sir Paul Chukwuma replaced the former National Leader of the party, Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has visited the Ngobros and Company Nigeria Limited, Nnewi factory, where a recent fire outbreak razed a production complex along with all machines and raw materials therein, and promised assistance to help rebuild the factory by providing access to development finance institutions.

Addressing journalists after a closed-door meeting with the Chairman/CEO of Ngobros and Company Limited, Chief Humphrey Ngonadi, Governor Soludo, represented by the Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Mr. Christian Udechukwu, assured that the state government will help to ensure that, in the shortest possible time, a new factory with more advanced technology will spring up to continue serving the people.

He described Ngobros and Company Nigeria Limited as a leading industrial firm, adding that the state will continue to support industrial development.

Governor Soludo promised that the state will strengthen emergency response services around Nnewi to help check such ugly incidents.

# Anambra State Auditor General for Local Government, Mrs. Josephine Anyaegbunam, says the Office of the Auditor General will intensify efforts to be more proactive in its oversight functions, with a renewed commitment to transparency and accountability across the local government system to ensure the state achieves its 2026 development goals.

Speaking during the bilateral discussion and budget defence before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mrs. Anyaegbunam explained that the office is strengthening its internal mechanisms to improve audit quality, enhance compliance among Local Government Councils, and promote prudent financial management.

She noted that the focus for 2026 will be on expanding routine audits, improving monitoring frameworks, deploying modern audit tools, and building the capacity of staff to ensure early detection of irregularities and timely intervention.

According to her, effective auditing remains critical to the successful implementation of government programmes at the grassroots, and the office is committed to supporting the state government’s vision of a transparent, accountable, and development-driven local government system.

# Thirty-one young Anambra innovators have been identified, trained and financially supported by the Mastercard Foundation in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through its Young Africa Innovates Programme platform.

Speaking at the event, which featured a series of presentations on innovative projects developed by the thirty-one young innovators, the Project Manager, Young Africa Innovates Programme of UNDP, Lady Ifeyinwa Egwaoje, said that the thirty-one were selected to be trained in the state out of the initial one thousand three hundred applicants, and explained that the Young Africa Innovates Programme is a partnership between the Mastercard Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme aimed at discovering, building and providing opportunities for young marginalized innovators who are eager to solve societal problems with the aid of technology.

She reemphasized UNDP’s commitment to helping nations achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities, pointing out that achieving the future everyone dreams of cannot be done through traditional methods alone, as it requires disruption, innovation and the fearless, boundless energy of young people.

On her part, the South East Focal Person for the United Nations Development Programme, Lady Wetalu Okosi, noted that the Young Africa Innovates Programme, which is meant to support youth innovation and build the ecosystem, provides the platform, resources and needed support to enable the young innovators to create change within their communities.

Lady Okosi called for more support from the government in providing an enabling environment where young people will be able to develop solutions, innovate and contribute to the socioeconomic development of their society.

# The United States Consulate says it will partner Anambra State, through the state’s Solution Innovation District (SID), in digital economy and innovation.

The Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General, Lagos, Julie McKay, disclosed this at the Solution Innovation District office in Awka during the Anambra Technology and Innovation Ecosystem engagement, which served as an interactive session between the U.S. delegation and innovators in the state, and an avenue for the innovators to inform the U.S. representatives of areas where they need assistance in the digital and innovation sector.

Addressing the gathering, the leader of the U.S. delegation, McKay, said that their visit to Anambra is part of efforts to find ways to make the U.S. and Nigeria more prosperous in the digital economy, and assured that the United States will partner Anambra in providing both training and support for digital economic development.

The Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Innovation and Business Incubation, Ms. Chinwe Okoli, expressed hope that the proposed partnership between Anambra and the United States would deepen the state’s digital economy agenda and accelerate what the state is already doing in the ecosystem, where the Governor aims to make Anambra the creative capital of Nigeria through massive training of youths in digital skills.

The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha-Mba, and Professor Kingsley Nwaozor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University appreciated the U.S. government for deciding to partner Anambra in building its digital economy, and expressed hope that the partnership will be robust and beneficial.

# The Mayor of Njikoka Local Government, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, on Friday, 5th December 2025, visited Enuagu village in Enugwu-Ukwu to inspect the worsening erosion situation threatening the area.

Accompanied by his team, the Mayor assessed the extent of damage caused by the gully erosion and interacted with concerned residents.

Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba assured the community that immediate palliative work would begin to control the erosion and prevent further environmental degradation.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and properties, especially in erosion-prone areas, and called for the support and cooperation of residents as efforts begin to stabilize the affected site.
