* The alumni association of Basdem Memorial Special Education Centre, Isulo, in Orumba South Local Government Area has called on Anambra State Government, philanthropists and public-spirited individuals to help reposition the school and equip students with necessary material to enhance teaching and learning in the school. Speaking at a symposium held at Professor Kenneth Dike Central e-Library Awka, the National President of Basdem Memorial Special Education Centre Alumni Association, Barrister Onyinye Evughire, said though limited in some ways, the association has been doing its part in addressing challenges students at the centre face, but said that government attention is direly needed for more impact in repositioning the state owned special education center.

* Wife of the governor of Anambra state Mrs Nonye Soludo says that the present administration will continue to support investment ideas and actions that will help the collective achievement of a dream homeland.
ANN reports that Mrs Soludo stated this at the Professor. Dora Akunyili Women Development, Awka, while presenting start-up equipment and free-interest loan cheques to graduands of the 2023 skill acquisition training sponsored by Anambra Women United, (AWU), Chicago, USA.

* Anambra Commissioner for Health Dr. Afam Obidike said the state government will build another nursing school of international standard at the Ekwulobia zone. Dr. Obidike who appeared along-side members of his ministry during the budget defense/bilateral discussion presided by Anambra assembly committee on Finance and Appropration chaired by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu and committee on health chaired by Hon. Tony Moubike, proposed to spend 15 billion in 2024.

* The National Population Commission has announced the commencement of data collection for the 2023-2024 Nigerian Demographic and Health Survey, revealing that the survey will run until Sunday April 21, 2024. ANN reports that the Federal Commissioner of NPC representing Anambra State, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke, made this disclosure during the launch and press briefing of the exercise in Awka.

* The Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, in the last presidential election in Nigeria, Prof. Peter Umeadi, said that he holds the traditional symbol of authority, also known in Igbo parlance as ‘Offor Stick’ of the APGA in Nigeria. He also said that he is the face of APGA in Nigeria, having contested the last presidential election and won votes in all the Wards and Local Government Areas across the country.

* Amidst concerns surrounding the current surge of diphtheria cases in multiple Nigerian states, the Anambra State Government has initiated a two-day residential training program for its Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers. The aim is to proactively prevent the spread of diphtheria and other communicable diseases within the State. The training includes participation from Officers in charge (OIC) of Federal, State, and Mission Health facilities within the State.

* The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budgets, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake says conduct of local government elections is still a priority in the present administration’s agenda to champion rapid change and development in all communities across the state. Mrs. Nnake stated this in Awka during a stakeholders’
forum tagged: “Strengthening transparency, accountability in governance and electoral process.

*Anambra State Disability Rights Commission has warned the citizenry against using PWDs to extort or amass wealth by any means. The ANSDRC Chairman, Bar. Chukwuka Ezewuzie gave the warning while speaking at Awka. Ezewuzie, who explained that the PWD’s were only asking for inclusion and equal rights as stipulated by the Anambra State Disability Rights Law 2018, and other national and international legislations, argued that they were not beggars nor object of caricature.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi said the reason she
built borehole and toilet at Eke Awka-Etiti is to make traders have access to clean water and prevent waterborne diseases. In her speech, Hon. Obi maintained that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is committed to providing safe and reliable water for all, stating that the borehole project will make a positive difference for the traders. The Commissioner for Youth Development Hon. Patrick Aghamba while commissioning the project commended the mayor of Idemili south for the initiative.

* Creating an inclusive society can be achieved if everyone stops waiting for anyone; including the government, and becomes intentional advocates of inclusiveness anywhere. A resource person, Dr Ebere Ezeife, stated this in her lecture titled “Social inclusion: mirage or reality”, which was delivered at the official launch of Diamond Pearl Initiative, DPI, an NGO that focuses on persons with disabilities.
