# The League of Anambra Professionals, LAP, has unveiled an educational programme tagged ‘Future Forward Scholarship Initiative’ in Awka, during which the group empowered thirty-six indigenous students from the three senatorial zones of the state who recently gained university admission, and expressed intent to expand the number of beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the President of LAP, Sir Nnamdi Obi, represented by his Deputy and Chairman of Education Committee of LAP, Dr. Ifeyinwa Jibunoh, explained that the scholarship will cover full tuition, accommodation and monthly support stipend, all amounting to one million naira per student per year, adding that Anambra has always been known for its academic excellence, and that LAP is committed to restoring and strengthening the legacy.

Others who spoke at the event, including a guest from Maryland, USA, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Achike, and a member of the Education Committee of LAP, Kasie Abone, urged the beneficiaries to be exemplary in conduct and maintain high academic and behavioral standards, knowing that grace met them through LAP and that eyes are on them.

In his remarks on the essence of scholarship and human capital development, the Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, represented by Ukpa Ewa, commended LAP’s vision, commitment and investment in the next generation, and expressed strong belief that the scholarship initiative will expand and accommodate more indigent students across Anambra, thereby giving young people a fair and just opportunity to succeed and ensuring that no one is left behind.

 

# The Anambra State Police Command on Monday, 8th December 2025 formally received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s Monitoring Unit deployed to the state to ensure full implementation of the IGP’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.

In his remark, Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the IGP’s reform efforts targeted at enhancing professionalism, discipline, and optimal deployment of police manpower nationwide.

The CP noted that the withdrawal of these officers will help to strengthen public policing, improve response capacity, and ensure that more personnel are available for core policing duties across the state.

Orutugu further assured the Monitoring Unit operatives of the Command’s full cooperation throughout the exercise and directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units to provide necessary support for a seamless and transparent enforcement process.

According to SP Ikenga Tochukwu, PPRO,
the Anambra State Police Command
urges all individuals, organizations, and VIPs affected by the directive to comply fully, noting that the exercise is part of nationwide efforts to reform police operations and improve national security.

# The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has released the timetable and guidelines for the 2026 Local Government election scheduled for August 29, 2026.

ANSIEC Chairperson, Hon. Genevieve Osakwe, announced the timetable during an interactive session with political party leaders under the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Awka. She described the release as the formal commencement of election preparations, promising a free, fair and credible process.

Osakwe noted that the last local government election held in September 2024 was widely adjudged credible, adding that the Commission intends to surpass that record.

# The Director of Divine Wisdom Schools in Awka, Anambra State capital, Chief Amaechi Obiesili, has blamed poor parenting for the low moral standards and behaviour among today’s young people, particularly the students.

Obiesili argued that it was unfair to heap the blame on teachers when parents have failed to bring up their children properly at home.

“That’s why most times in private schools we don’t flog children; which is very bad. But in our school (Divine Wisdom Schools) we discipline children; though we discipline children according to their levels. Apart from that, parents nowadays don’t like teachers flogging their children.

“Only about 60 per cent of parents would say okay, discipline that child. They will even encourage you to flog their children when they misbehave. Forty per cent of them don’t like it’. He said.

# Mayor of Anambra East, Hon. Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze said the reason for the free surgical outreach in Umueri is part of his administration’s commitment to improving access to healthcare, especially for vulnerable residents.

Chinweze explained that this period is a “joyful season” for the community, marked by APGA’s recent governorship victory and preparations for Christmas.

According to him, the initiative was designed to help families celebrate the season without the burden of untreated medical conditions. He noted that while he had spent years paying hospital bills for indigent patients during festive periods, 2025 marks the first time he is sponsoring a full surgical intervention project.

The mayor reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining and expanding health-focused programmes across Anambra East, promising more interventions aimed at improving public health infrastructure and services.

# Impressed by the pace of work at the ongoing Boys’ Hostel project at Dominican College, Abatete, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 Election, Mr Peter Obi, donated a further N10m to the College to aid the completion of the project he is personally funding.

Obi’s latest donation came four months after he gave N25m to the College and laid the foundation stone for the Boys’ Hostel Project.

The latest donation coincided with Obi’s inspection of the new Boys’ Hostel he is funding for the school, reflecting his dedication to improving educational infrastructure in the state.

During his visit, he assured the school authorities that he would continue to monitor the project closely and make regular visits until the hostel was completed.

# Anambra Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Forster Ihejiofor says the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has purchased and distributed two million, two hundred thousand coconut and oil palm seedlings.

Speaking in an interview with House of Assembly Correspondents after the bilateral discussion and budget defence before the House Committee on Agriculture and food security, the Commissioner revealed that the implementation for this years budget under the Ministry of Agriculture is 50 percent.

“Fortunately, one hundred and eighty thousand households in Anambra State have received between ten to twenty seedlings. When you look at the economic potentials of this seedlings, in the next four – seven years, when they must have produced and yield fruits, those families will be out of poverty.

” In 2026, Mr. Governor has proposed and promised to empower a minimum of hundred thousand Anambra Households again with very important economic seedlings”. Ihejiofor said.

# The Mayor of Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, Hon Chief Stanley Nkwoka has commissioned the Ilo-Udu Ogbu Abatete Hall perimeter fencing project he embarked upon recently.

The commissioning of perimeter fencing, preceded by the National Convention of Ogbu Abatete Improvement Union (OIU), witnessed the election and the swearing in of the newly elected executive members.

Commissioning the project, the Mayor thanked Abatete Community for coming out en masse on Saturday, 8th November, 2025, to vote Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo for a second term in office.

The Council boss promised to bring more dividends of democracy to the People of Abatete and Idemili North in general, urging them to continue to support the Governor Soludo-led Anambra State Government.
