# Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has attributed her nomination for the prestigious COOU Faculty of Arts Platinum Icon Award to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s sustained investments in education, describing the honour as a reflection of the state government’s commitment to transforming the sector.

Prof. Chuma-Udeh was unanimously nominated by the Faculty of Arts, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) Igbariam, in recognition of her outstanding leadership, administrative excellence and contributions to human capital development.

The award will be presented at the Faculty’s 6th International Conference scheduled to hold from February 3 to February 6, 2026.

The conference, themed, “Arts/Humanities, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Biotechnological and Human Enhancement in Nation Building,” is expected to bring together scholars and stakeholders from within and outside the country to discuss the role of the humanities in national development.

# The Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB) has carried out the demolition of illegal structures at the Electrical Parts Market, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area.

The exercise targeted unauthorized buildings, makeshift structures, shanties, and illegal attachments that were obstructing access roads and posing dangers to traders and shoppers within the market.

According to the Executive Secretary of the Physical Planning Authority (LPA), Idemili North, Mr. Stephen Egbe, the action became necessary after several removal notices issued to defaulters were ignored.

# Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, has launched UniOjukwu 106.1 FM.

The radio station located in the Department of Mass Communications within the Igbariam campus of the university was described as a “training ground” by the Vice Chancellor, who commissioned the radio station.

During the event, Professor Omenugha, who also marked her 61st birthday, was joined by her husband, Chief Dr. Michael Omenugha, and members of the university management team.

Speaking just before the radio station was formally opened for use, Professor Omenugha said that the radio station aligns with one of her passions, which is communications, but beyond that, she was convinced that the university community needed a radio station. “.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has declared that all markets and shops across Anambra state will remain open every working day, including Mondays.

This directive was made during a meeting with market leaders from across the state, held in Awka.

The meeting aimed to address the recent closure of the Onitsha Main Market and the long-standing Monday sit-at-home practice that has affected commerce in the Southeast.

Governor Soludo presented a “renovate or rebuild” ultimatum to the traders, offering two options: to level the existing structures and build a new, world-class trading hub or undergo a massive modernisation project.

# The newly Monarch of Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Christopher Okechukwu Nnebo has vowed to ensure that the long lingering issue of land grabbing and land transactions which have resulted to crisis in the community will be tackled, harmonized and thereby restoring peace.

The traditional ruler made the disclosure in his country home at Nteje, stating that the recent crisis in the community was an attempt to deny Ifite village their right in producing the next Igwe against the guiding constitution of Nteje Community.

# The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has released a provisional timetable for its primary elections ahead of the 2026 local government polls in Anambra State.

The party said the schedule was approved in line with the provisions of the APGA constitution and the electoral calendar issued by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

In a statement issued on in Awka, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, announced that the sale and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms commenced on January 27 and will end on February 6. He noted that the process is taking place at the party’s Awka Regional Secretariat.
