# Tipper drivers and sand miners operating in Anambra State have appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to urgently intervene in what they described as persistent intimidation, harassment, and extortion by operatives of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, popularly known as the Ocha Brigade.
The groups raised the alarm during a peaceful protest at the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Area Office, Onitsha.
They alleged that Ocha Brigade operatives regularly disrupt their legitimate business activities despite the fact that they operate within federal government, approved jurisdictions.
Addressing the NIWA Area Manager in Onitsha, Sir Victor Nwaokeocha, the President-General of the Anambra State Sand Miners Association, Mr. Christopher Mbaegbu, said the purpose of the protest was to formally complain to NIWA, which he described as their “landlord,” over the continued harassment of their members by Ocha Brigade.
# A fatal road traffic crash was recorded, opposite FRSC office by the Ihiala-Onitsha road.
The fatal crash was between two vehicles: an unidentified driver of a commercial tanker with no registration number, and an unidentified driver of a motorcycle with no registration number.
The probable cause of the fatal road traffic crash was attributed to speed and loss of control.
According to an eyewitness, the tanker was traveling at high speed when it lost control and crashed into the barricade on the road, Immediately after the crash, the tanker exploded and caught fire which affected the motorcycle that was following the tanker behind. Resulting in the death of the tanker driver and his conductor.
In a statement issued by Anambra FRSC spokesperson, SRC Margaret Onabe, three male adults were involved in the crash.
# The need for rapid infrastructural development of the College of Health Sciences, UNIZIK, Nnewi Campus has received the approval of the Governing Council of the University.
Leading other members of the Council to the 2nd induction/ oath taking ceremony of the Department of Anatomy at Okofia, the Pro-Chancellor, Barr. Olugbenga Kukoyi declared a State of Emergency on infrastructural development of the campus.
Kukoyi informed the students that they are searching for more spaces to build Students hostels and that the ones already completed would soon be occupied by the Students. The Pro-Chancellor decried the neglect over the years and assured the students and staff of quick intervention.
# As the 2026 Anambra State Local Government Election approaches, Presidents-General of communities in Idemili-South LGA have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the incumbent Mayor Mrs. Amaka Obi, declaring her best candidate for the chairmanship position.
The community leaders who spoke to newsmen at the council headquarters Ojoto, maintained that there is no vacancy for now because the incumbent Mayor is performing and that changing her would be detrimental and counterproductive.
In their separate speeches, they all rejected other candidates and concurred that Amaka Obi is a beacon of light; that her second term aspiration is incontestable irrespective of the machinations of opposition elements.
# The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Barrister Beverley Nkemdiche Ikpeazu has said, women are stronger species than men, stating that they should aspire for leadership.
Ikpeazu made this statement at the council secretariat hall, Ojoto, during 2026 Women Summit and urged women to be the best, show capacity and support one another.
On her part, member representing Onitsha North One Constituency in State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Mimi Azikiwe said, women are very special, appealing women to believe in themselves because now is the time to arise and take decisive actions for change against all odds.
Speaking, the Mayor of idemili South, Hon. Amaka Obi stated that administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has politically empowered alot of women to participate in politics.
While appreciating Mr Governor for appointing many women in his cabinet, she advised them to strike a healthy balance between pursuing career-success and raising well-adjusted and emotionally-balanced children towards maintaining a happy family.
# The Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, alongside Anambra Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, other key stakeholders, embarked on a sensitization campaign across selected schools in Enugwu-Ukwu community.
The sensitization campaign is part of efforts to combat and prevent the spread of measles.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Obidike, emphasized the need for early detection and prompt medical attention for suspected cases, stressing that timely response remains critical in preventing outbreaks.
In his address, Njikoka Mayor, Hon. Ononiba maintained that the initiative forms part of Governor Chukwuma
Soludo’s broader strategy to clamp down on measles outbreaks and strengthen public health awareness across Anambra State, with particular focus on Njikoka LGA.
The Mayor while flag-off the measles immunization, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of children in Njikoka.
# The UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has received delegation from Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI), Nigeria Hub.
The Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) Nigeria Hub is a program that empowers communities to drive social health innovations in Nigeria. It is part of a global network established in 2014 to accelerate universal health coverage through social innovation and community engagement.
The Nigeria Hub is hosted by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, as, a delegation from SIHI paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK to brief him on the organization’s activities and solicit his support and encouragement.
The delegation comprised Emerita Professor Obioma Nwaorgu; team leader, Dr. Ogechukwu Aribodor; Programme Manager. Other members of the delegation were Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna, Professor Chinyelu Ekwunife, and Professor Chinyere Onubogu.
# Concerned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State have warned the party’s national leadership that retaining the current state executives through imposition rather than open congresses will further weaken and potentially destroy the party’s structure in the state.
In an open letter read by a former Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Mike Ugwa, the stakeholders urged the National Chairman to ensure that the forthcoming ward, local government and state congresses are all-inclusive, transparent and competitive, allowing every qualified member to contest any position.
They based their appeal on what they described as the party’s “moribund” condition in Anambra, insisting that only a complete leadership overhaul can revive the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders argued that the party cannot afford to repeat what they called past mistakes if it hopes to improve its electoral performance in the state.
