* The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, has sworn in Barr. Etomike Innocent Ndigwe Esq. and Tagbo Chinwuba Anieto Esq. as Judges of the Anambra State Judiciary. The Governor congratulated the newest member of Anambra’s core court of judges and expressed gratitude to God for their calling to public service as outstanding professionals.
* The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme, ROLAC, has held its closeout ceremony and presentation of safety programme and achievements in Anambra State. ROLAC programmes which focuses on criminal justice reform, access to justice for children, women and persons living with disabilities, anti-corruption and engagement with civil societies and the media, is funded by European Union, EU, and implemented by the British Council, with Anambra and other states of the nation as beneficiaries.
* The Regent of Nri, in Anaocha Local Government Area, Prince Ikenna Onyesoh has urged the people of his community and the entire council area to cast their votes for the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Honourable Dozie Nwankwo during the February twenty fifth National Assembly elections. The Regent made the call when Honourable Nwankwo led his campaign team to their community. Prince Onyesoh said that APGA as a political party has achieved a lot in providing dividends of democracy to all the communities in Anambra State and described Honourable Nwankwo as an approachable politician who is ready to listen to his constituents at any given time.
* Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has commended the people of Njikoka Council Area for voting him into office to deliver the dividends of democracy. The Governor stated this when he embarked on inspection of the 5.12 kilometer Abagana to Nimo road. According to the Governor, Njikoka is indeed the home of APGA, as attested to by the victory at the last gubernatorial election, winning 17 out of 18 wards.
* A senior lawyer in Anambra State, Dr Jezie Ekejiuba, has hailed the three Northern governors that dragged the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over naira redesign. Ekejiuba, who is also the President of Voters Rights Association of Nigeria (VRAN), said the Nigerian apex court had the jurisdiction to hear the matter since the naira redesign policy was originated by the Federal Government. He averred that the Central Bank Nigeria (CBN) was merely acting on the Federal Government’s directives to execute the naira change policy of the government.
* The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone-13, Ukpo, Anambra State, Abutu Yaro, has alerted officers in the zone on the need for the zone to be safe during the forthcoming general elections. In a statement signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations, SP Nkeiruka Nwode, the AIG described the two states under the zone as crime-infested states, hence the need for the personnel to step up their plans to ensure safety of members of the public ahead of the election day.
* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the immediate dissolution of the Caretaker Committee of Onitsha Electronic Dealers Association. A statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, explained that dissolution of the committee is with effect from Friday, tenth February 2023.
The statement further explained that the government is working to reposition the market in due course, and advised stakeholders of the market to be patient; as a new leadership will emerge very soon.
* Team Clean, Green and Healthy Anambra, led by the state Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu, has inspected drainages in some parts of Awka, the Anambra State capital. The drainages were inspected to check their cleanliness, as well as to ensure that water can easily flow through them; as the rainy season approaches.
Areas visited include Esther Obiakor and Book Foundation roads, all within Agu Awka axis.
* Teachers in the state have been advised to teach Igbo cultural values to their students.
The Chairman Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu made the call while addressing Students and management of Army Day Secondary School, Onitsha.
* The member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe has bought petrol for over one thousand commercial motorcyclists in Anambra East and West as a way to support their means of livelihood. Hon. Obidigwe while speaking to newsmen in Otuocha, the headquarters of Anambra East Local Government Area, said that what he has done was to complement the efforts of his constituents.
* Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, inspected the level of work at the Amansea -Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba Ofemmili road construction in Awka North Local Government Area. On arrival, indigenes of the Communities were ecstatic, as they welcome the Governor with singing and dancing in appreciation of the unfolding rapid development in road infrastructure. Addressing the crowd, Governor Soludo said he has returned for the second time since the flag off ceremony last year to ascertain the level of progress of work done so far. He said he was emotionally attached to the people of Awka North, and that after inspecting the level of work, he was filled with joy. He promised he will return next year to commission the road after it would have been completed.
* Gunmen attacked an advance security team of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra, on their way to Abia State. It was gathered that three policemen from the department of Explosive Ordinance Device from the Delta State Police Command, Asaba, attached to the state government house in Asaba, were killed in the incident.
