# The Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr Chibueze Ofobuike has announce the qualified candidates for the Second Stage of the 2026 Aguata Best Student Challenge.
The forty-five students from different schools in Aguata LGA scored from 65% and above in the First Stage of the challenge.
After the Second Stage where the students will be assessed on Creative Writing, the best cumulative results will produce the finalists of the competition.
The Finalists will be embarking on a transformative trip to London, United Kingdom, in June, 2026.
#The Secretary of APGA Dunukofia,
Engr. Azubuike Okoye has cautioned against the adoption of a one-term, two-year tenure per community in Dunukofia Local Government Area.
Okoye while speaking during the Ifitedunu Endorsement of Mayor Chijioke Ozumba’s Second Term Aspiration, said if Dunukofia succeeds in establishing a one-term, two-year tenure per community, they will continue to produce ineffective and corrupt mayors every two years.”
“This is because two years is grossly insufficient for any mayor to properly plan, execute meaningful projects, and be adequately assessed and held accountable by the people.”
“Good governance requires continuity. Only through stability and sufficient time in office can performance be objectively measured and credibility earned.” Okoye submitted.
# No fewer than 259 villages in 23 endemic communities belonging to four cross-border LGA’s, have started Post-Treatment Surveillance against River Blindness (RB) and Lymphatic Filariasis (LP) otherwise known as Elephantiasis.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike stated this during a press briefing in Awka on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) interventions in the state, saying that the affected LGAs are Ayamelum, Awka North, Orumba North and Anambra East.
Obidike described NTDs as a group of preventable and treatable diseases that significantly affect the poorest populations of the world, affecting 1.5 billion people globally.
# The National Community Policing Campaign (NCPC) has honoured the local government Chairman of Ogbaru, Sir Kenneth Akwuobi, for his exemplary leadership and service.
The award was presented by the Executive Director of the NCPC, Dr. K. O. Ubah, during a brief ceremony held at the mayor’s office in Nkutaku, East of Niger, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
While presenting the award, Dr. Ubah recalled the long-standing relationship between the NCPC and Sir Akwuobi, noting that the mayor was among those who supported and promoted the organisation in its early days.
Speaking at the event, the Anambra State Chairman of the NCPC, Elder Christopher Madueke, described the organisation as the operational arm of the Community Crime Sensitisation Centre.
Madueke explained that the NCPC works in collaboration with the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to promote security and accountability at the grassroots.
# The Mayor of Awka North, Hon. ThankGod Anago has formally presented the 2026 Budget/Estimates, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to building a better, stronger and more prosperous Local Government Area.
Speaking during the budget presentation, the local government Chairman noted that
his administration remains firmly focused on strengthening democratic processes and implementing sound financial and structural plans that promote transparency, accountability, and responsible governance.

# The Wife of the Mayor of Dunukofia LGA
Mrs. Okwuchukwu Ozumba, and her team, alongside the Dunukofia Supervisor For Health, Hon. Chibuzo Maduagwuna, have continued to lead advocacy campaigns, sensitization, and awareness creation on the ongoing Measles-Rubella vaccination exercise for children aged 9 months to 10 years across the Local Government Area.
It would be recalled that Anambra First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, on February 4, 2026, officially flagged off the vaccination exercise at Iruzu Primary Healthcare Centre, Ukpo, and charged Mayors’ wives to champion the campaign in their respective Local Government Areas.
In compliance with this directive, Mrs. Ozumba has been actively monitoring the exercise in Dunukofia while intensifying sensitization efforts through visits to schools, churches, markets, and homes where eligible children are found.
Her engagements have focused on educating parents and guardians on the importance, safety, and benefits of the Measles-Rubella vaccine.
The vaccination exercise is recording remarkable success in Dunukofia Local Government Area, with increasing coverage across communities. Parents, guardians, and children have shown commendable cooperation and responsiveness to the ongoing sensitization efforts.
# The Secretary of Onitsha South LGA, Hon. Paul Onuachalla, has stressed the urgent need for discipline, institutional respect, and proper communication within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), particularly between party managers and grassroots stakeholders.
Onuachalla, a pioneer member of APGA in Anambra State, made this position known in a statement titled “The Need for Party Discipline and Respect for Stakeholders,” which he made available to journalists in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
He was reacting to a publication authored by Mr. Onunkwo Kizzito, a state officer of the party in onitsha South LGA, which was circulated across several WhatsApp platforms.
The publication reportedly cancelled a previously scheduled stakeholders’ meeting without prior consultation or official communication with the affected local government leadership.
# The Mayor of Ogbaru LGA, Sir Kenneth Akwuobi, has presented his achievements after one year in office.
Sir Akwuobi, who began his leadership journey as Deputy Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government, was later elevated to Acting Mayor and subsequently confirmed as substantive Mayor exactly one year ago.
The Mayor disclosed that prior to his confirmation, Ogbaru Local Government had no permanent legislative building. According to him, his administration constructed and fully furnished a befitting legislative complex to strengthen democratic governance at the grassroots.
He further explained that most of the structures within the Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat, including the traditional rulers’ building, were destroyed by hoodlums during a period of unrest.
In response, his administration constructed a new, befitting traditional rulers’ complex, describing it as a symbolic recognition of the revered status of traditional institutions as custodians of culture and moral authority.
