# The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has charged information officers in Anambra State to deliberately invest in their personal and professional growth to enhance service delivery.
Dr. Mefor gave the charge during the Batch B training of information officers held at the Ministry’s Situation Room, Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
He emphasized the need for officers to dedicate time to self-improvement in order to remain relevant in the evolving digital communication landscape.
Highlights of the training included sessions on script writing with Dr Chinwe Chuka, content creation, by Joseph Obunse, Uche Igboeli on social media ethics and video editing with capcut by Obianuju Umeh, aimed at strengthening digital communication and public engagement.
# Nkpor Community has emerged champions of the Hon. Uchenna Annie Okonkwo (U.A.O) Idemili Football League, after defeating Akwu-Ukwu in a penalty shootout.
It was a very competitive match filled with suspense, display of passion, talent, and resilience from both teams.
Akwu-Ukwu took the lead in the first half with one goal. In the second half, Nkpor equalized, and the match proceeded to penalties, where Nkpor won 4-3 against Akwu-Ukwu.
Eziowelle, a town in Idemili North, came third, while Nnokwa took the fourth position.
The first, second, third, and fourth teams received medals and cash prizes of three million naira, two million naira, one million naira, and two hundred and fifty thousand naira respectively. Individual cash prizes were also awarded to players who distinguished themselves in the league.
# The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria, in collaboration with the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) and other partners, have staged a road walk in Awka to mark the 2026 International Condom Day, observed annually on February 13.
The advocacy march drew health workers, civil society organizations, and government officials, with participants distributing condoms and educating residents on responsible sexual behavior as a key measure to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Speaking at the event, Senior Advocacy and Marketing Manager of AHF Nigeria, Steve Aborishade, said the initiative is part of AHF’s global campaign to reduce new HIV infections.
# The local government Chairman of Idemili South, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, has distributed school bags donated by Hamilton and Thelma Ezeonu Foundation to students of St. Joseph’s Seminary School, Awka-Etiti.
Speaking at the event, Obi said the
gesture aimed at supporting education and easing learning conditions for young scholars.
The mayor commended the foundation for its commitment to educational support, noting that such collaborations remain vital to improving access to quality education and promoting shared responsibility for community growth.
To encourage the students especially the indigent ones, Hon. Amaka Obi, promised to take care of WAEC fee for every indigent student in the school and also to pay JAMB fee for 50 persons urging them to make Idemili South and Anambra state proud.
# Entrepreneurship remains Nigeria’s most viable pathway out of economic uncertainty and structural stagnation, Professor Clementina Uchenna Agbionu declared as she delivered the 121st Inaugural Lecture of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The lecture, held at the Zephaniah Madubuko Auditorium, Faculty of Social Sciences, attracted members of the University community, captains of industry, scholars, students, and invited guests who gathered to witness the scholarly milestone.
In her lecture titled “Entrepreneurship Development in Nigeria: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly and the Way Forward,” Prof. Agbionu traced Nigeria’s developmental challenges to structural and managerial deficiencies, arguing that overreliance on oil wealth laid the foundation for many of the country’s economic distortions.
Rooting her discourse in her academic background in Management and Entrepreneurship, she described entrepreneurship as inseparable from management, noting that “management permeates all aspects of life; it is pervasive in nature.”

# Anambra Police Command has arrested a prime suspect in connection with the murder of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday,
noted that the arrest reportedly followed sustained intelligence gathering and community collaboration.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Chibunna Nwafor, aged 26, also known as “Ọffọnwatadile,” was taken into custody on February 11, 2026 after he was reportedly apprehended at his hideout in Umueri Community as part of the Command’s ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.
The Police Spokesman explained that the arrest represents a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of the pregnant nurse, whose body was found mutilated in Ogbunike, a development that triggered panic within the community and beyond.
The PPRO also confirmed that the suspect has been handed over to a higher investigative formation of the Nigeria Police Force for discreet and comprehensive investigative proceedings.
Reacting to the development, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended members of the community whose cooperation and timely information played a critical role in the successful apprehension of the suspect.
CP Orutugu reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensure that all individuals connected to the crime are identified, arrested, and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
# The Founder of Akpoazaa Foundation, Dr. Frank Igbojindu, has announced the renewal of Five Hundred Thousand Naira
( ₦500,000) endowment fund for the ‘Best Graduating Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK).
Dr. Igbojindu who is also the Group Managing Director of Akpoazaa Group, made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bond Stanley Anyaehie, at the institution’s Awka campus.
In his speech, Dr. Igbojindu explained that the endowment, which was launched in 2025, was created to reward and encourage outstanding academic performance among graduating students and has now been institutionalised as a yearly intervention to promote merit, discipline, and excellence.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Igbojindu described it as his modest way of giving back to the institution that shaped his academic journey, noting that he obtained his Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, and Doctorate Degree in Accountancy from the University.
