# The local government Chairman of Anaocha, Hon. Rome Ibekwe, has flagged off a comprehensive immunization program aimed at protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

The Mayor while speaking at the launching held at the Anaocha LGA Secretariat, emphasized the importance of immunization in safeguarding children’s health.

Hon. Ibekwe urged parents to ensure their children are immunized, warning that failure to do so could lead to health complications in the future. He also issued a stern warning to schools, stating that any institution that refuses to allow health workers to immunize children would face sanctions, including possible closure.

In his remark, the Supervising Councilor for Health, Hon. Ekene Ezejelue, pledged to ensure the success of the immunization exercise.

Hon. Ezejelue commended the local government Chairman for his commitment to improving healthcare in Anaocha and assured him of his support in monitoring the exercise.

# Rt. Hon. Benchuks Nwosu has been named the Chairman of Membership Mobilization, Revalidation, and Registration Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State.

This was revealed in Abuja, during a meeting of the National Executive Committee of the ADC, where critical stakeholders of the party were assigned various responsibilities ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Barr Nwosu, a popular lawyer and former chieftain of the Labour Party, had moved into the ADC just before the Anambra 2025 gubernatorial election last November. In the Labour Party, he also served in the Contact and Mobilization Committee for the party’s presidential election that saw Mr. Peter Obi emerge as both the third force and the most consequential contender, given the outcome of the election.

In this new role, Barrister Benchuks Nwosu is expected to bring along his longstanding political experience, as a former Campaign Director General to Dr. Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State in 2010.

# The Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has formally admitted its new students into the 2025/2026 academic session in a colourful matriculation ceremony marked by solemn pledges and strong warnings against misconduct.

The ceremony combined celebration with firm counsel as faculty leadership charged the matriculating students to uphold discipline, integrity, and academic excellence throughout their stay in the University.

In her address, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Comfort Chimezie Okolocha, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie, congratulated the students on securing admission into one of the most dynamic faculties in the University.

She urged them to shun examination misconduct, certificate forgery, and cultism, stressing that attendance at lectures and adherence to University regulations remain non-negotiable conditions for academic success.

# Federal Polytechnic Oko has taken a bold step towards forging a strategic academic alliance with Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, with the aim of elevating the quality of education, fostering human capital development, and driving national progress.

The proposal was presented recently when the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, led the institution’s management on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, at the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Awuzie emphasized that the proposed partnership aligns with the shared vision of both institutions to expand academic opportunities and enhance professional capacity building.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the initiative, describing it as a positive step toward deepening inter-institutional cooperation. He invited the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Angela Ufele, and the Director of the UNIZIK Business School, Prof. P. V. C. Okoye, to present the university’s requirements for such affiliations.

He assured the Polytechnic that once the outlined standards are met, the requests would receive prompt consideration and approval.

# Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has laid his father, the late Chief Patrick Obidike to rest in his Akweze town, Anaocha LGA.

At the Church service held at the St. Gregory Catholic Parish, Akwaeze, Governor Chukwuma Soludo who graced the occasion advised the people never to allow criminals destroy the state.

He said that Anambra State is not cursed therefore, must be restored to its lost glory especially where it commands the commercial activities of the country and parts of Africa that depend on its major markets like the Onitsha market.

The governor commiserated with the commissioner and his siblings, urging them to take solace at the good marks their father left behind and protect also his legacies.

# Anambra Commissioner for works, Engr Ifeanyi Okoma has described Governor Chukwuma Soludo as an exemplary leader in all aspect.

Okoma while receiving an excellence award from Freenews Magazine Company, in his office at the weekend, expressed gratitude to Soludo for appointing him Commissioner.

Speaking during the presentation, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FreeNews Magazine, Mr Obinna Mbonu, said the completed and ongoing road construction/rehabilitation across the 179 communities that constitute Anambra State by governor Chukwuma Soludo within his first three years in office was majorly behind his second term victory in the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election in the state.

# The Ministry of Health, Anambra State in collaboration with Anti-Piracy Society of Nigeria has embarked on a 3-day massive sensitization of the public on the adoption of safe practices by food handlers in the food supply chains of preparation/processing, transportation, storage, and on the table food provision.

According to the Programme Manager, Food Safety and Hygiene, Anambra State Ministry of Health, Dr. Rose Amasiani, the exercise is to sensitize the general public on safety standards, protocols and guidelines to avoid exposing the consumers in Anambra State to food poisoning and food borne diseases.

While commenting on the reasons for the exercise, the Director General Anti-Piracy Society of Nigeria, Hon. Frank Uduonu said, “we are embarking on the web sensitization to inform the populace that they need to beware of the directive of the Ministry of Health towards food distribution chain.

# The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has called on Nigerians to demonstrate genuine love and kindness toward one another, not only on Valentine’s Day but at all times.

In a goodwill message signed and made available to journalists in Awka, the First Lady emphasized that love should extend beyond the annual celebration and be reflected consistently in people’s daily interactions,especially toward the less privileged and those in need.

According to her, true love is best expressed through kindness, compassion, and selfless actions.
