# Driven by the clear interest in providing the basic needs of the people, particularly towards helping women in local business, the Mayor of Aguata LGA, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike visited the construction site of the Afor market in Ikenga.

Speaking during the visit, Ofobuike maintained that the intention is to provide a conducive market environment for the women engaging in daily petty trading.

Dr. Ofobuike was joined by the deputy mayor of Aguata LGA, Hon. Kingsley Ezeagu, the Councillor representing Ikenga Ward, Hon. Callistus Okoli, and the community leadership.

# The Anambra State Government has again sealed several shops belonging to traders in markets around Onitsha and neighbouring communities, for failing to open for business on Monday.

Most of the affected shops were located at the Building Materials Market, Ogidi, where traders reportedly stayed away from their businesses despite the state’s directive.

However, the government commended traders at the Electrical Parts Dealers Market, Obosi, for complying with the directive and opening for business.

The decision was taken after the Special Adviser to the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, on Markets, Evarist Uba, conducted a monitoring tour to assess compliance with the policy mandating markets to operate on Mondays.

During the visit, he observed significant commercial activity at the Obosi market, describing it as a welcome departure from prolonged weekly shutdowns that had affected economic activities in the state.

# The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Anambra State Chapter has stepped up efforts to enhance officers’ welfare and strengthen security/community relations through free skill training and empowerment initiatives.

The training has participants drawn from POWA and some women from communities in Anambra State.

The trainees learned different skills including baking, catering services, natural species production and others aimed at promoting self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and economic stability among Police families and residents.

The Acting Chairperson, POWA Anambra Mrs Eno Mantu, notes that at the end of the training, the participants are expected to be empowered with various skills and equipment, which would serve as a morale booster and family support for Police Officers and other members of the wider community in the State.

# Worried by lack of infrastructure and youth unemployment in his Nteje Abogu community, in Oyi LGA, the Igwe-elect of Nteje, Christopher Okechukwu Nnebo, has begged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to remember the area in his second tenure that commences from 17th March, 2026 when he will be sworn in.

Pleading for the rapid infrastructural development of the community, the Igwe-elect lamented that they have never enjoyed motorable roads, pleading that construction of at least two major roads would be a big sigh of relief to the people. His words,

“Since our amiable and workaholic (Oluatuegwu), governor is entering into his second tenure, he has the ample opportunity to get the projects executed. Insecurity is another problem we have, teeming youths that are all over the place.I plead that he finds an avenue to get them emgaged, those who want to go to school should be encouraged. let the state look into trying to enforce a law to make idleness unacceptable situation to disrupt the high rate of crime”

“We are really aware that before his second tenure, a lot of changes have come through him, again the airport road, most of the street lights are vandalized”

“We have made this known to him after his emergence meeting with us. It is an opportunity to reemphasize on the need of what we have been asking as ndi Nteje”

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and the Chairman of the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, have urged Ndigbo to prioritise investing in the South-East rather than focusing mainly on other parts of the country.

They spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony of Raphmaths Seaview Estate in Amansea, Awka, where Soludo, represented by Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim, assured investors that the state government is tackling land grabbing and will support genuine developers.

Both leaders praised the Chairman and CEO of Raphmaths Estates, Chief Raphael Ojiribe, for consistently investing in Anambra and the South-East, describing him as honest and worthy of emulation.

Speaking, Ojiribe said the project is part of a broader vision to deliver secure, well-structured, and globally competitive estates in the region. He emphasised that the development represents a movement to bring world-class infrastructure to the South-East and encouraged investors to take advantage of opportunities in Anambra.

# The NIgeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command, Mr. Maku Olatunde has condemn the attitude of some agencies shutting down mining sites in Anambra State in the form of enforcement.

The NSCDC boss reiterates that, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals, it was saddled with the responsibility of conducting Operational Surveillance routine, and enforcement on mining sites, an essential role in safeguarding the integrity of the nation’s mining sector.

The primary objective according to the NSCDC State boss is to ensure mining activities are conducted legally and ethically, protecting the sector from economic sabotage, illegal mining, and other activities that could harm the national, state and local economy.

He cautions intending miners who are in the process of registering to cease operating, as that has not given them the right to start operating.

The Command warns road construction companies and contractors against the destruction of fibre-optic cables and other critical national assets during excavation and construction activities.

# The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Anambra State Command, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga has reacted to the regrettable incident involving a 21-year old Apprentice who allegedly used a Pestle to strike his Master, resulting to his death brought a lot of issues to the fore. These include:

SP. Ikenga while reacting to the unfortunate incident, outlined the following lessons:

“Early intervention Matters. Warning signs such as drug abuse, theft, and repeated misconduct should never be ignored. Seeking timely intervention through counseling, rehabilitation, or community mediation can prevent situations from escalating into violence.

“Employers Must Balance Discipline with Structured Support. While correction is necessary, structured approaches, such as involving guardians, community leaders, or appropriate authorities when issues persist, may help reduce tensions and risks.

3. Substance Abuse Is a Serious Risk Factor. Drug use can impair judgment, increase aggression, and fuel criminal behavior. Addressing substance abuse early through professional help is critical.

” Security and Boundaries in Domestic/Work Settings. Homes that double as work places should implement clear boundaries and safety measures, especially where domestic staff or apprentices reside on the premises.

“Community and Law Enforcement Collaboration. Parents and guardians are encouraged to work with the Police and other law enforcement agencies when addressing serious behavioral issues involving their wards or children.

“This unfortunate event underscores the need for vigilance, proactive conflict management, and stronger social support systems within families, work places and communities.

# Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to as a matter of necessity direct the Managing Director, Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) to commence palliative work and rehabilitation of the failed portions of the Awka Etiti-Onusougu-Iseke Road and the Nnewi-Lasal Road, Ukpor.

The lawmakers at plenary, through a motion sponsored by Minority Leader, Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, noted that a good network of roads is important for convenient travel and that effective maintenance is essential for sustaining user-friendly roads.

Hon. Akaegbobi who is the lawmaker representing Nnewi South two Constituency, stated that commerce and industry which is the mainstay of Nnewi’s economy are enhanced by a good network of roads;

Akaegbobi commended Prof. Soludo’s administration, which according to him has recorded unprecedented milestones in the kilometers of roads awarded for construction across the twenty-one (21) local government areas of the State.
