# The wife of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Prof. Uche Azikiwe, has expressed deep appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for honouring and remembering the legacy of the great Zik of Africa.
Prof. Uche Azikiwe made this known while receiving the Vice-Chancellor and his management team at her residence in Onitsha.
She described the visit as heartwarming and commendable, noting that it brings her immense joy to welcome individuals who continue to recognize and celebrate her late husband’s immense contributions to humanity, education, and nation-building.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor thanked Prof. Azikiwe for the warm reception accorded him and his team. He described Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe as a personal inspiration and a towering figure whose love for education and visionary leadership remains unmatched.
Prof. Anyaehie disclosed plans to institute the African Zik Leadership Fellowship, a programme designed to nurture and develop future leaders in Africa in honour of the late statesman. He also revealed plans to establish a Zik’s Garden within the University to further immortalize his legacy.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the rare privilege of sharing the same birthday with the late Zik, describing the visit as the most significant and fulfilling he has made since assuming office as Vice-Chancellor.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has cautioned all road construction companies, civil engineering firms, contractors, developers, and allied operators across Anambra State over the persistent destruction of fibre-optic cables and other critical public infrastructure during excavation and construction activities.

Maku Olatunde stated this during his weekly tactical digest meeting with the command’s top management at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.
The NSCDC State helmsman said the warning is in line with the directive received from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) on the protection of telecommunications infrastructure and other Critical National Assets and Infrastructure nationwide.
The Command, he said, notes with grave concern the increasing incidents of damage to underground fibre-optic installations arising from negligence, poor planning, and failure to verify the presence of communication lines before excavation.

# A middle aged man, Mr. Onyedikachi Okpala has allegedly been killed by two of his brothers over inheritance issues in Umunankwor village, Ula Ekwulobia, in Agauata local government area of Anambra state.
The deceased died after his two brothers Chigbo and Okwudili used matchet to cut the back of his neck after engaging him in a fight while they were preparing for the burial of their father.
According to an eye witness, the two suspects who took to their heels after committing the crime, had been living idle in the village over the years while their younger brother Onyedikachi was a successful businessman and the bread winner of the family based in Lagos.
The eye witness said that late Onyedika engaged a painter who would help to repaint their family house in preparation for the burial, of their father but his two brothers refused that the building will not be repainted
One of the fleeing suspects, Chigbo, had been captured at Ezinifite by local security operatives while Okwudili remains at large.
# Retirement is a time to pursue postponed dreams, and this echoed as the immediate past Director of News and Current Affairs, Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mrs Juddy-Jeff Nwabueze, bowed out of service after thirty-five years of service.
Speaking at a grand send-off held to celebrate her achievements and legacies, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, who congratulated Mrs Nwabueze on retiring in good health, urged her not to abandon the institution that nurtured her.
Expressing mixed feelings as he bid the retiree farewell, the Managing Director of ABS, Mr Christopher Molokwu, stated that he will miss the leadership style of Mrs Nwabueze, and advised other Directors of the ABS, as well as staff of the News and Current Affairs Department to maintain the unity she fostered and sustain team spirit.
Responding, Mrs Nwabueze, who expressed joy and gratitude for the honour, appreciated all who came to celebrate with her, prayed for unity and cooperation among staff of the News and Current Affairs Department, and the entire ABS establishment.
# There is tension in Urum Community, Awka-North LGA over the selling of over 1000 plots of land at Ochiokwa stable land Urum to a developer, Mr. Chukwuemeka Okechukwu Kingsley (Nwagu Ata Ahihia) for development of Heaven Estate without the knowledge of the community.
The community described the purported selling of the Ochiokwa land to a developer without the knowledge of the President General of the community or the leadership of the Town Union as an affront to the leadership and people of Urum community.
The alleged developer, Mr. Chukwuemeka, who owns Nwagu Ata Afiafia Property and Homes allegedly coveted over 1,000 communal land at Ochiokwa boundary between Urum, Achalla and Amanuke allegedly without legal documents from the community town union.
Already, Youths in the midst of elders and leadership of the community led by President General of Urum community, Hon Sir. Felix Godwin Oranye besieged the Ochiokwa land in question to warn the developer known as Nwagu Ata Ahihia to desist forthwith from entering amd developing the Ochiokwa land.
# People of Umunya community in Oyi LGA have organized a mega reception for their Igweship candidate, Dr. Innocent Nworah, to demonstrate solidarity with his ambition to serve the community.
Dr. Nworah, a Houston Texas, United States-based medical doctor, was received by his people at the Chinua Achebe International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, in Anambra and escorted to his country home at Ajabana Village, Umunya, where he entertained and fraternized with them.
During the reception, Umunya sons and daughters, both young and old, were seen chanting melodious songs, shouting for joy, and hailing Dr. Nworah as their incoming king, describing the moment as a new dawn for the community.
Speaking, Dr. Nworah said he accepted the call of his people to serve as their traditional ruler because of his long-standing desire to contribute to the development of the community from childhood, and assured that he will take Umunya to greater heights and improve the welfare of the people.
# Ifedimma Friends Club of Nigeria has intervened with a powerful promise of life and recovery for six-year-old Chimuanya Emeagwailibe, a child who has battled a severe brain tumour for years under pain, poverty and abandonment.
The intervention came from the Club, whose commitment has reopened the door to treatment and a normal childhood.
Presenting the case, Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon. Ify Obinabo, thanked the club for committing over ten million naira to cover the child’s hospital bills.
Hon. Obinabo recalled the distressing condition in which Chimuanya and her mother were first received by the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, when the child could
barely see, talk or move properly.
The Commissioner assured that the abandonment by the father and relatives would be investigated and the law allowed to take its full course and also commended the club for extending support to vulnerable persons at the Nteje Rehabilitation Home, with over one million naira and relief materials.
Narrating her ordeal, Mrs. Jenifer Emeagwailibe from Obosi in Idemili North LGA explained that Chimuanya developed sight problems at two, collapsed at four, suffered repeated seizures and spent three months in coma after doctors confirmed a brain tumour requiring urgent surgery and a seven-million-naira bill was presented, while her husband abandoned the family, forcing the children out of school and into hardship.
