* The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Sen. Victor Umeh has been appointed a Member of the Pan-African Parliament by the President of the Senate Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio. Umeh who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Land, Housing and Urban Development on recently received the notice on his Nomination by the President of the Senate as Member of the Standing Delegation of Nigerian Parliaments to the Pan-African Parliament. The Pan-African Parliament located in Midran, South Africa has up to 275 members representing the 55 African Union—AU Member States that have ratified the Protocol establishing it (five members from each Member State).
* The Member representing Orumba South Constituency Hon. Emma Nwafor has visited the fire scene at Nkwo Umunze to sympathise with the fire victims. Nwafor in his words appreciated the fire team first, and then consoled the victims of the fire incident, he assured them of the government’s commitment to better the lives of the masses. He promised them of hope of compensation from the government of Prof. Charles Soludo.
* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has visited
collapse building at Odu-Igbo Market, Ochanja. Soludo while addressing the large crowd at the scene of the incident, expressed deep sadness at the incident, describing it as “tragic and an incident that was not supposed to happen. The Governor announced that 26 individuals had been rescued and hospitalized, five casualties recorded, with rescue efforts ongoing to locate those still trapped under the rubbles. He emphasized his commitment to tackling the issue of illegal constructions and impunity in the state, revealing that the collapsed building was erected by a private developer without government approval.
* The Anambra State House of Assembly calls on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Health to as a matter of urgency, cause a compulsory orientation, verification and certification of healthcare facilities in the State and ensure strict compliance with medical protocols so as to forestall the occurrence of medical negligence and prescription of fake drug in private owned Health facilities in Anambra State. The sponsor of the motion, Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu, member representing Nnewi South one constituency in his submission stated that the critical nature of healthcare demands, a good number of which ranges from Childbirth delivery, treatment of serious injuries sustained from accidents, caesarean section and other major surgeries like organ transplants to mention but a few. According to Hon. Atuchukwu, the above listed healthcare demands require urgent attention from qualified and competent healthcare practitioners skillfully trained within the required area of specialty.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has thanked President Bola Tinubu for fulfilling his promise during his campaign to appoint Governor Chukwuma Soludo into his government to help in reviving and strengthening the nation’s economy as an expert. Rt. Hon. Udeze In his Congratulatory Message said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has remained pivotal in the process of shaping and strengthening the nation’s economy by continuously serving as a member of the economic team of successive Presidents of the country after serving as the Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Udeze described the appointment as meritorious in view of Governor Soludo’s deep knowledge in economic philosophy and management.
* Nigeria National League (NNL) side Solution FC have appointed Cameroonian-born Encho Anthony Encho as the new head coach for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. Encho comes in as a replacement to fill the void left by the late Coach Uche Okagbue who died in active duty after a brief illness.
The Cameroonian Coach was once the Technical Adviser of NNL side Crown FC Ogbomosho, he has also worked with NNL sides, ABS FC and Ijebu United FC while also handling some foreign based clubs such as Samui United Academy of Thailand and Tiger Soccer Academy Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
* Police Detectives of Anambra State Command working with Umuoji Vigilante have apprehended the suspected killers of the town’s President-General, who was murdered in his home at the weekend.
According to a release by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relatiins Officer,
Anambra Command, four suspects have been arrested so far. The handset and ATM Card of the deceased were recovered from them. In their confession, they named four other accomplices who are now being hunted for by the Police.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who was away in Ibadan on official assignment for the opening ceremony of the 14th Biennial Police Games rushed back home when the news of the murder broke to coordinate Police effort at unravelling the crime.
* The Anambra State House of Assembly has commends Governor Chukwuma Soludo on the completion of the Marine, Akpaka GRA, and Federal Housing Estate to 3-3 Expressway Road in line with his promise to the constituents. Sponsor of the motion Hon. Patrick Okafor, member representing Onitsha North two constituency in his submission stated that Marine, Akpaka G.R.A, and Federal Housing to 3-3 Express-way road carries a high volume of traffic due to its linkage to and exit from Onitsha and so many residential estates connected to the road.
According to Okafor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo had during his campaign tours at Onitsha North, promised to construct and complete the Marine, Akpaka G.R.A. and Federal Housing to 3-3 Express way Road.
