* Anambra State’s former Commissioner for Health and current Chief Medical Director, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Dr. Josephat Akabuike, has raised alarm and concern over what could be best described as the rising tension in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area of the State, ahead of an upcoming re-run election in the community.
A re-run election has been scheduled in the community for the Orumba North and South Federal Constituency has been scheduled to hold in Nanka on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
* Philanthropist and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Shield Security company Ltd, Ozo Jeff Nweke has given scholarships to some students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Nweke while handing the cheques to the students told them that they can reach the zenith of their ambition if they remain of good behaviour by facing their studies. Ozo Jeff admitted four new students in Nnamdi Azikiwe University into the Ozo Jeff scholarship scheme, through the universities.
* The Anambra state commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr Julius Chukwuemeka attends the tripartite meeting of Power Commissioners Forum, Nigerian Governors’ Forum and the Federal Ministry of Power Held at Power House, Abuja. Engr. Chukwuemeka who is also the South-East Rep of the Council of Energy Commissioners in Nigeria joined the Power Commissioners Forum and Nigerian Governors’ Forum in a meeting with the Honourable Minister of Power, Adebayo A. Adelabu.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has visited Chief Dr. Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana) and seek for collaboration. Speaking during the visitation, Hon. Amaka Obi commended Dr. Obinna Iyiegbu for his support, advocated for the need for public private partnership to improve sectors in the council area.
* The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, has assured party faithful and the general populace of the party’s robust readiness for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Osun states. Ezeokenwa, speaking during his appearance on AIT’s “Democracy Today” disclosed that the party’s National Working Committee, acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), has approved direct primaries in February for the Edo Gubernatorial election scheduled for September. This pivotal move underscores APGA’s dedication to a thoroughly democratic process, ensuring that every member’s voice contributes directly to the nomination of their gubernatorial candidate.
* Anambra State House of Assembly has asked the Transition Chairman of Onitsha South Mr. Emeka Orji and the Commissioner of Environment Engr. Felix Udomegwu to come for questioning on Tuesday February 6th 2024 to clearify alligations brought against them. The member representing Onitsha South one constituency Hon. Fred Ezenwe through a matter of urgent importance draw the attention of the lawmakers to the alligations against duo.
According to Hon. Ezenwe, the allagations are of intimidation, harrisement and arrest of waste contractors.
* The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on the Governor of Anambra Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to pay the debt of N901 billion naira owed members million for supply of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) popularly called diesel for powering of streetlights in the state. Angel Network News reports that Mr Chinedu Anyaso and Mr Emeka Iloafor, Chairman and Secretary of IPMAN Enugu Depot Community made the call in a reminder letter to Soludo. The letter was entitled “Re; Request For Debt Payment Of N900,664,805.00 Owed Our Members For Diesel Supplied And Services Rendered In Respect Of Street Lights”.
* A bill for a law to provide for the consolidation, administration and collection of all revenue due to the state and local government in Anambra state, establish the relevant administrative structures and provide for related matters, have been read for the third time and passed into law by the Anambra state house of assembly. The member representing Ihiala one constituency Hon. Jude Ngobili who is the chairman of the committee on Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) said the objective of the law is to provide for the administration and control of all revenue lines.
* The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Aderemi Adeoye has ordered massive deployment of personnel to provide adequate security for the electorate as well as officials taking part in the election. ANN reports that in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in Nanka, Orumba North LGA and Nnewi in Nnewi North LGA from midnight to 6p.m. on 3rd February, 2024.
