# A bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Public Complaints, Financial Crime And Anti-Corruption Commission, and for related matters has been passed Into Law.
After the necessary corrections and ammendment at the ‘Committee of the Whole’, the bill was passed at plenary on Tuesday February 3rd 2026, after the Majority Leader of the House, Sir. Ikenna Ofodeme moved a motion for the third reading and was seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Nobel Igwe.
The Commission will investigate all Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes cases involving the finances and assets of Anambra State Government.
Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary commended the joint Committee for a job well done.
Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that the bill shall come into force from February 17th 2026.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has commissioned the newly constructed Nzegwu Okoye Road, a 1-kilometre road with a 200-metre spur, built through the initiative and funding of Igwe Ben Emeka.
The commissioning ceremony, held in Umueri, Anambra East local government area, was marked by celebration and a strong reaffirmation of the state government’s commitment to the Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) model.
Soludo praised the gesture as exemplary and perfectly aligned with his administration’s development philosophy, stating that the sense of community is the foundation for the progress of Anambra.
The Governor directly addressed the project’s benefactor, Igwe Ben Emeka, stating, “Once you build it, I’ll come and commission it,” a promise that stresses his administration’s pledge to support and celebrate community-led infrastructure projects.
# The Anambra State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has officially unveiled its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Summit, through the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor.
The two-day event, themed “Managing Reputation Capital in the Digital Age: Influence, Integrity and Impact,” is scheduled to hold from 12 to 13 March 2026 and is expected to attract leading voices in public relations, governance, academia, and policy formulation.
The first day of the programme, Thursday, 12 March 2026, will feature a Students and Young Professionals Forum at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam Campus. The forum will be headlined by Dr Uche Nworah, Founder and President of Charlton Business School, Abuja, who will deliver a keynote address titled “Breaking Ground Early: Building a Career in Public Relations.”
Activities on the second day, Friday, 13 March 2026, will climax with the Main Summit and Annual General Meeting at the International Convention Centre, Awka. The keynote address at the summit will be delivered by Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
# The Chairman, Aguata LGA Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH, Igwe Chidi Ezenwugo has urged ndi Aguata to allow their children to be vaccinated.
Speaking at the Aguata stakeholders sensitization meeting on Measles and Rubella Immunization at the Maternal and Child Health Centre (MCH), Aguata LGA Secretariat, Igwe Ezenwugo ably represented by the Traditional Ruler of Igboukwu, Igwe Alex Ejikemeuwa Azike, commended the Anambra State Government for the proposed immunization roll out which is to take place across Aguata and the State in general.
The Monarch encouraged ndi Aguata to support government programmes and key into the immunization programme for their own benefit.
# The Chairman of Umueri village- Ogbunike community in Oyi LGA of Anambra State, Hon Lovi Elobisi has called on relevant authorities particularly the Nigerian Police and the state government to investigate the failed assassination attempt on his life.
The attempt which took place along the popular St. Monica’s road Ogbunike, led to the destruction of one of his cars with bullets.
The attacked also degenerated into man-to-man confrontation and destruction of many buildings worth millions of naira.
Speaking to journalists shortly after a seven hours on-the-spot assessment tour with the Nigerian Police and the media, the traumatic chairman, lamented that the attacked came after several threats.
# The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has raided a popular, highly rated Hotel (Name withheld) located around the famous 33 areas of Onitsha, Anambra State.
The agency during the raid, arrested four (4) suspected traffickers, and rescued seventeen (17) alleged victims of human trafficking.
During the coordinated operations, which was carried out with the support of the Military, two suspects allegedly involved in the selling and buying of babies within the States of the South East Region, were apprehended.
Sadly, 4 of the victims were said to be infected with HIV and are currently being counselled by a Team of Caregivers from NAPTIP and volunteers from the Anambra State Aids Control Agency (ANSACA).
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has commended traders in Onitsha markets for heeding to his call to resume businesses on Mondays.
Soludo made the commendation on during his visit to the streets of Onitsha main market.
Prof. Soludo, in company of key officials, described the day as an end to the illegal sit-at-home. He said the visit to the market served as a symbolic and practical declaration that the state is open for business.
The governor took a walk through the economic heartbeat, regarded as high-traffic trading zones, including: Ose Market, Bright Street, Lagos Line, Emeka Offor Plaza, among others.
Soludo engaged the traders in conversations, just as he purchased local goods, ranging from fabrics to food items to demonstrate that the fear factor used to enforce the shutdown has evaporated.
# The Coalition of Youth Organizations of Orumba North LGA has formally purchased the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chairmanship Nomination Form for the Mayor Barr. Casmir Chinonso Nwafor (Rtd), in a strong show of support for his reelection.
The purchase followed a well-attended meeting of youth organizations drawn from across the Local Government Area, held at Eziakpu Hall, Umuagu, Ufuma, where the youths unanimously resolved to take a collective and symbolic step in affirmation of continuity in leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, youth leaders stated that the decision was entirely youth-driven and based on a comprehensive appraisal of governance in Orumba North under the current administration.
