# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been urged to review the reward system for sportsmen and women, to encourage more youths to engage in sports as a life changing endeavour.
Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, during its monthly congress, presided by the Chairman, Mr. Chimezie Anaso, called on Soludo to consider providing an Olympic stadium for the people of the state and Awka in particular.
The association through its Communique issued at the end Congress held at MichRoyal Hotel Awka, signed by its chairman, Chimezie Anaso and Secretary, Uche Ndeke, also asked the governor to rejig the sports sector of Anambra State.
SWAN commended Soludo for his investment in sports as well as for establishing Solution FC, Anambra.

The presence of our dear state Chairman of APGA, Chief Sir Ifeatu Obi-Okoye coloured the occasion which appeared to be the first it’s kind in the history of Idemili South.
Chief Henry Ayinofu presented a cheque of five million Naira to encourage the Mayor to run again.

# The newly elected Ugbenu Town Union Executives, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have been inaugurated to pilot the affairs of the community for the next four years.
The President General of Ugbenu, Chief Ephraim Madu and his executives, emerged winners in the town union’s election.
In his address, Chief Ephraim Madu, thanked the people of Ugbenu for the confidence reposed in them and promised to run an all-inclusive administration where everyone will be carried along, irrespective of village or social status.
The new President General disclosed that some of the major projects of his administration include the provision of a functional Ugbenu constitution, construction of a civic centre, and a central traditional ruler’s palace.
# Work is in progress on the Ekwulobia–Oko–Ufuma dual carriageway, awarded by the Anambra State Government.
Concrete and earthworks commenced from the Ufuma end of the road, with drainage completed on both sides from the Ufuma axis to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
Speaking to newsmen, the Project Manager, Engineer Badwi Moussa, said that the drainage measures one metre by one metre throughout, adding that they were given until 2027 to complete and hand over the project, but they are doing everything possible to finish ahead of schedule.
He appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the trust bestowed on them, promising to deliver according to specification for the benefit of the communities along the road, whom he described as very cooperative.
Engineer Moussa said that their major challenge is the removal of structures obstructing the road, noting that these structures are hindering the smooth movement of equipment and slowing their pace.
In their separate remarks, the President General of Amaokpala Community, Mr. Nonso Nwogbo, represented by Obinna Ikwueto, and a tricyclist, Mr. Azubuike Nangwu, a resident of Ndiowu, described the project as more than democratic dividends and thanked the Governor for the construction work, commending the contractor for quality and speedy delivery, while assuring their maximum support to ensure seamless operations.
# The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, has reaffirmed the College’s full alignment with the Anambra State Government’s Smart Education Reform under Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
In her 2026 Beginning-of-Year Message, the Provost noted that the State Government’s establishment of Smart Schools across Anambra State places a strategic responsibility on NOCEN, as the State’s flagship teacher-training institution, to produce digitally competent and future-ready teachers.
Dr. Anyadiegwu disclosed that the College is rolling out massive capacity-building programmes for its academic staff and Anambra State Basic Education teachers, in partnership with UBEC and ASUBEB, to ensure effective delivery of the Smart Schools initiative.
She further announced that the Department of Curriculum Instruction and Educational Technology has been mandated to lead the implementation of this strategic intervention, with full institutional support.
# Nze Odera Ezenwafor, popularly known as Dike Ndi Igbo, has declared his intention to contest for the position of Local Government Chairman of Idemili South.
Speaking at a ward meeting and press conference, Ezenwafor said his decision was guided by a sense of duty and a call to serve the people.
“This decision is not driven by personal ambition alone, rather, by a call to service, a call to correct imbalances, to restore fairness, and to build an Idemili South that truly works for its people,” he said.
# The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has directed factories, companies and business operators within the capital territory to maintain a clean and safe environment around their premises or face sanctions.
The directive, issued by ACTDA Environmental Officer, Mr. Jude Nworah, on behalf of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Authority Dr. Ossy Onuko, stated that operators are required to regularly cut and clear grasses within and around their premises, provide waste bins and ensure proper refuse disposal.
ACTDA announced that its enforcement team will commence routine inspections from February 15, 2026, warning that defaulters will be sanctioned with a fine of Three Hundred Thousand Naira or face legal prosecution.
Nworah said the inspection exercise will cover factories, companies and other business premises across Awka to ensure compliance with environmental sanitation standards.
He noted that the directive became necessary following the poor environmental condition previously observed in parts of the capital city, including blocked drainage systems and unclean gutters.
# The Local Government Chairman of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, has officially flagged off the ₦25,000,000 ward-based development project at Enugwu-Ukwu Ward one.
Addressing stakeholders at the flag-off ceremony, Barr. Ononiba reiterated his administration’s commitment to people-centered governance and equitable distribution of resources.
The Mayor explained that each ward is empowered to identify priority projects that best address its peculiar needs, thereby ensuring transparency, community ownership, and sustainable development.
According to him, the ward-based approach is designed to take governance directly to the grassroots.
Ononiba further announced that all projects across the 18 wards will be executed simultaneously. This strategy, he noted, is aimed at ensuring balanced development across Njikoka, preventing unnecessary delays, and delivering timely results to all communities.
