* Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Mr. Olatunde Maku has enjoined officers and men of the agency to make positive impact as they discharge their duties. Angel Network News reports that Comdt. Maku stated this in Awka at the maiden command wage award established by him to honor selected personnel of the command for their exceptional work, outstanding professionalism, diligence and upholding the ethics of law enforcement. According to him, the establishment of the monthly award was spurned out of his initiative to boost personnel morale in furtherance of their public duty.

* The Commissioner For Environment Engineer. Felix Odimegwu and the Transition Chairman of Onitsha South Hon. Emeka Orji has appeared before Anambra Assembly to clarify alligations brought against them following the resolution of the lawmakers last week to that effect. Angel Network News reported that the lawmakers last Thursday summoned the duo after the member representing Onitsha South one constituency Hon. Fred Ezenwe through a matter of urgent importance draw the attention of the lawmakers to the alligations against them.
According to Hon. Ezenwe, the allagations are of intimidation, harrisement and arrest of waste contractors.

* The Deputy Speaker of Anambra Assembly, Right Honourable Chukwuma Okoye says the state 8th Assembly will do everything in its power to support the state government in its efforts to boost the human capital development of the state. Okoye was speaking during the passing-out parade of members of staff of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade after their one week training at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Mbaukwu/Umuawulu in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

* The Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Special Adviser on Trade and Market and the Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, (ACTDA), to commence the construction of affordable local mini markets within Awka metropolis to control the menace of street trading and associated effects on the state capital. Sponsor of the motion Hon. Nigeria Henry Mbachu, the member representing Awka South one constituency while making his submission said the rising rate of poverty in Nigeria is very alarming thereby plugging millions of people into extreme poverty.

* Anambra State government has announced that henceforth the installation of camera has become a condition for approval of any private school. Angel Network News reports that Commissioner for Education Anambra State Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh while addressing the management of a private school in her office, said that this has become necessary for the monitoring of activities in the school. The directive followed a report by a parent that a teacher, manhandled his child and the school was invited to the Commissioner’s office for explanation.

* The Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) Chairman Vin Ezeaka, a lawyer, has assured that employment ban in the commission may be lifted any time soon. Ezeaka said this would be possible if all stakeholders would join hands to fight corruption and flush out ghost workers in the system. He said ghost workers were still receiving salary on monthly basis as staff of the LGSC in the state .

* A 38-year-old widow, Mrs Chinyere Chukwu has been arrested by the Anambra state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, for allegedly agreeing to sell her two grandsons for the sum of N1.8 million. Chukwu, who hails from Ozubulu in Ekwusigo local government area, was arrested together with her 17-year-old daughter, Ms Joy Chukwu, at their residence in Okija, Ihiala local government area, both in Anambra state.

According to a statement from Miss Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the media assistant to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Ify Obinabo, the Chukwus were apprehended after the commissioner posed as a buyer for the children, having gotten a hint of their willingness to sell them off.

* Public office holders in Nigeria have been asked to prioritize public interest over personal gains, and be honest, transparent and accountable in various public offices they are occupying for all round development and progress of the country. The Federal Commissioner, representing South East Zone at the Code of Conduct Bureau Board, Barrister Dave Umano, gave the instruction during the opening of a two-day sensitization workshop on strict compliance with assets declaration and code of conduct for public office holders in Awka by Code of Conduct Bureau; in collaboration with Anambra State Government.
