* Ahead of the November 8th, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Basil Ejidike, has urged members of the party to brace up to the challenge of ensuring that the party came out victorious in the poll.

Addressing the APC major stakeholders from the 21 local government areas of the state at the party Secretariat opposite Anambra Government House along Enugu-Onitsha Highway Awka, on Wednesday, shortly after presenting  the party symbol (Broom) to the newly admitted member and aspirant of the party in the election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, said APC is ripe to take over power from APGA-led Government headed by governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

Ejidike assured members that with the calibre of members including Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Sir Paul Chukwuma, Senator Andy Uba, High Chief JohnBosco Onunkwo and other thousands of personalities, the party is going to win the governorship election come November 8th, 2025.

* The Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba has formally opened University On The Niger Permanent Site, Umunya and commissioned some completed projects in the University, established by the Diocese On The Niger.

The projects commissioned by the Primate include internal roads within the University, students’ hostel, Faculty of Nursing Sciences, University Administrative block, among others.

In a welcome address, the Chancellor of the University, Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo said that the University is the outcome of many years of labour and ceaseless pursuit of a noble vision impressed upon their hearts for the educational development of the society and acknowledged the contributions of the  Women’s Ministry, Knights of St. Christopher, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Senator Tony Nwoye, former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, among others. 

The Vice Chancellor of Uni-Niger, Prof. Chinedu Nebo in his speech said the Diocese received Federal Government’s licence to float the University in June 2023 with the vision to be a leading institution in the achievement of excellence in knowledge dissemination, character building and leadership for the production of entrepreneurial and globally competitive graduates for national development.

* Ebuka Okafor Foundation in continuing with its tradition of empowering widows, has undertaken to empower three thousand (3,000) widows. 

The event took place at its founder’s compound, Ebenesi village, Nnobi in Idemili South Council Area, Anambra State.

Addressing the people, the Co-ordinator Ebuka Okafor Foundation, Mrs Blessing Nweke enumerated various projects of the foundation in the last 12 years including zero tolerance to hunger, healthcare service delivery for all, education for the indigent, and enlightenment programmes for the widows.

Okafor expressed joy and gratitude to God for his provision towards sustaining the foundation, calling on other affluents members of the society to touch lives.

* Two Catholic Reverend Sisters, Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli were kidnapped along Ufuma road, Anambra State.

According to a statement signed by Sister Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, IHM Secretary General, on behalf of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, the kidnapped sisters are Sr. Vincentia Maria Nwankwo, Principal of Archbishop Charles Heerey Memorial Model Secondary School Ufuma, and Sr. Grace Mariette Okoli, a teacher at Immaculata Girls Model Secondary School Nnewi.

They were kidnapped while returning from a vocational association meeting in Ogboji.

The Catholic community which has been thrown into a state of prayer, are soliciting the intercession of the Blessed Mother Mary for the speedy release of the kidnapped sisters.

*  Governorship aspirant, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has met with the executive of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.

The former lawmaker while presenting himself to the executive, said that it is no longer rumour that he plans to contest for the Anambra governorship position in the election which comes up in November this year (2025).

Ukachukwu who recently registered in his ward, Orsumenyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, assured members of the party that he was fully prepared for the contest and will put in anything that can help ensure that APC forms the next government of the state.

* Police-led Joint Operation is already ongoing for the possible rescue of two catholic nuns allegedly kidnapped along Ufuma Road, Orumba North Local Government.

The kidnapping occurred when the nuns were returning from a Vocational service meeting in Ogboji.

The Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations visited the scene for a spot assessment and stated that the command is already working with some clues for the possible arrest of the suspects and rescue of the victims

* Sir. Paul Chukwuma, a leading aspirant in Anambra State All Progressives Congress (APC) upcoming Governorship primaries, has declared himself the candidate to beat

Chukwuma while addressing journalists in his hometown, Umueri on Thursday, maintained that the APC primaries is expected to be highly contested, but that he will emerge victorious.

The former National Auditor of APC, emphasized that the party has a constitution and is a law-abiding, stressing that the rules will be obeyed.

With his foundation membership in the party and a track record of holding important positions within the APC, Chukwuma expressed his optimism about his chances.

* The immediate past Managing Director of  the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Chief George Moghalu says has expressed happiness over the return of the abducted former Bishop of Nnewi Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Godwin Izundu Okpala 

It will be recall that the former Archbishop was kidnapped at Umuchu with his deiver.

Reacting after Okpala’s release, Moghalu wrote: ‘I am happy to welcome Archbishop GIN Okpala (Rtd), former Bishop of Nnewi Anglican Communion, back home. His abduction was a devastating blow to the people of Anambra State.

“Unfortunately, the security situation in Anambra State has deteriorated under Governor Prof Charles Soludo’s administration. Despite my repeated calls to address the collapse of our security architecture, the government has failed to take decisive action.

* Two illegal revenue officers were arrested by Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra; Ocha Brigade enforcement team at unizik junction and Dike Park by zik’s Avenue all in Awka, Anambra State for extorting money from motorists and tricycle operators. 

The arrest was as a result of an intelligence report of their activities in these areas and other locations across the state, following the ban on illegal touting also known as Agbero in Anambra State. 

Two of the culprits also confessed of diverting those funds on the guise of working for the state. They were arraigned by Ocha Brigade and will face the consequences of their actions.

* Valentine’s Touch Foundation has empowered 20 petty business owners with grants to support their various businesses. 

The beneficiaries who received the sum of N100,000 each were selected from the different villages in Ekwulumili community in Nnewi South Local Government Area.

The Chief Executive Officer of Red Pastures Limited, makers of “Doings Bitters”, Barrister Valentine Mbamalu in his speech said the empowerment programme is part of activities marking this year’s Ekwulumili Day.
