# The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, at Ogbolokolo, Umuife Urum, in Awka North LGA of Anambra State, commissioned the Layers House designated for birds, especially fowls.
Commissioning the project embarked upon by the Director of MASDEVAN Farm, Reverend Father Nelson Okoye, Bishop Ezeokafor stressed the importance of feeding right, as well as having enough to eat and distribute, saying that the Farm was capable of feeding many.
Blessing the building project, designed and started from scratch and completed by the Manager of the farm, Houenoukpo Francis, the Prelate expressed joy with the developmental strides of the Farm and also their administrative aspect of business.
# The Anambra State Police Command has continued to witness significant advancement and morale boosters for its personnel in this new year 2026.
This follows the decoration of 9 (nine) recently promoted officers by the Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, on Friday, 9th January 2026, during the First Commissioner of Police Conference for Strategic Officers at Police Command Headquarters Awka.
The CP commended the personnel for their professionalism and dedication during the 2025 yuletide security season and tasked Officers and men of the Command to be more proactive, responsive, show courage and above all to work according to the Nigeria Police Act as well as shun any form of corruption in the line of duty this year.
During the decoration ceremony, which was held in conjunction with the Strategic Officers’ Conference, following the approval and release of promotion results by the IGP and Police Service Commission (PSC), the CP congratulated the Officers on their well-earned promotions, emphasizing that such advancement represents recognition of dedication, professionalism, and exemplary service.
The Police boss urged the officers to uphold discipline, integrity, and leadership in all aspects of their duties, highlighting that promotion carries increased responsibilities and accountability.
The Officers elevated include: SP Adedeji Anietie, SP Andrew Gabriel, SP Emmanuel Nnaemeka, SP Adeyemi Lateef and 5 others to the ranks of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
The CP also reiterated the IGP’s directives on withdrawal of personnel assigned to VIPs and a halt on the enforcement of tinted vehicles until otherwise directed.
# It was a gathering of some sort at Okolomesike Central School, Ifite Village, Ogbunike, in Oyi LGA of Anambra State, as sports enthusiasts, especially football lovers and fun seekers, stormed the venue for the 2025 Samodi Memorial Football Match.
The Memorial Match was sponsored, organised and hosted by the youths of Ifite Ogbunike and supervised by the Anambra State Bureau Chief, Channels TV, Lady Joy Odinye, in the loving memory of her late husband, Hon. Samuel Chukwuemeka Odinye, popularly known as Egwubegwu.
Speaking shortly after the match, the media goddess and seasoned broadcaster, noted with emotion-laden voice, how her late partner used to host and sponsor the football competition on an annual basis, saying that she needed to immortalize him by making it a point of duty that a memorial football match would be held in his name as a way of continuing his sporting and football legacy.
# The Chairman of Idemili South LGA, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, alongside her team, inspected the construction progress of plastic and pure water factory at Awka-Etiti by High Chief Oge Obi.
Speaking during the inspection, the Mayor maintained that the project is unwavering commitment to the progress of Anambra state and Governor Chukwuma Soludo continues to create space for Ndi Anambra to thrive.
“I congratulate High Chief Oge Obi on this impressive feat. His journey is a masterclass in vision, diligence, and consistency.
The construction and operation of the new factory is a significant source of employment for unemployed youths, as both the construction industry and the resulting manufacturing sector are often labour-intensive”. Obi stated
# It was a gathering of who is who in the government of Anambra State as they gathered to felicitate with the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Paully Onyeka who celebrated fifty fifth birthday of his wife, Mrs Ngozi Onyeka.
The event which kicked off with a pontifical high Mass at St Joseph Catholic church Ozubulu, officiated by the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev. Jonas -Benson Okoye, also afforded the Onyeka family the opportunity to thank God for their daughter Chuigo’s academic excellence as she just concluded her Masters degree with distinction oversee, and dedication of a foundation founded by Honourable Paully Onyeka and family for the widows and less privileged.
In a homily at the Mass, Most Reverend Okoye noted the importance of Thanksgiving in every day life congratulating the celebrants Mrs Onyeka and daughter as well as their father for putting God first.
Speaking at the reception in honour of the celebrants, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze and the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, said the Commissioner is a good man which they said was why they attended the event, commending him for floating the foundation for the purpose of alleviating the sufferings of the poor.
The past Vice President General Ohaneze Ndi Igbo worldwide, chief Damian Okeke Ogene also congratulated the celebrants for adding another year and for achieving academic excellence.
In their separate speeches, Hon Paully, his wife Ngozi and daughter, Chiugo, said that God is the pillar of their family, a reason why they planned for the Thanksgiving, appreciating God for his blessings upon them.
# former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke has lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his aggressive drive in transforming the state’s landscape.

# A zoning dispute has sparked renewed political tension in Nnewi, Anambra State, over alleged moves to secure a second term for the incumbent Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon Echezona Anazodo.
At the heart of the controversy is the firm insistence by the Obi of Nnewichi, Chief George Onyekaba, JP, and the Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Hon. Christian Udechukwu, that it is the turn of Nnewichi community to produce the next chairman of the local government council.
The leaders contended that the zoning and rotational arrangement governing political leadership in Nnewi clearly placed the Nnewi North Chairmanship in Nnewichi in the next cycle, warning that any attempt to alter the agreement could heighten divisions and undermine long-standing communal harmony.
The disagreement followed allegations that the incumbent Chairman, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, was being encouraged by some influential interests within Nnewi to seek a second term, a move critics saw as a violation of a documented rotational understanding among the four quarters of the town.
# The Special Anti-Touting Squad for Anambra State (SASA) has destroyed illicit drugs worth over ₦100 million in Awka, signaling a firm crackdown on drug abuse and criminality.
SASA Managing Director, Hon. Monday Nwokoye, declared zero tolerance for drug dealers and users, warning that offenders would face decisive action to protect public safety and the future of the youth.
He emphasized community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities and commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for supporting the agency’s mandate to sanitize the state and sustain security across Anambra.
