* The MD/CEO of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, has disclosed that the agency is set to pioneer new possibilities in Anambra State this year, using technology. Agbata who stated this in a press release added that through technology, the agency intend to ensure accountability and curb corruption.
* A 70 year old woman identified as Mrs Ojuza Osoko, has escaped death when a band of irate bees descended on her in front of a shrine at Umueje community in Ayamelum LGA, Anambra State. A family source, Mr. Igwebuike Osoko revealed that she was passing by the shrine when the bees descended on her, attacking her till she fell unconscious.
* The Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Dr Tony Nwoye, has recounted how God used the Labour Party presidential candidate in the February 25 election, Mr. Peter Obi, to make him a senator. Speaking recently Nwoye said ‘It is God that uses people to make things happen. In 2011, I contested for House of Representatives and won, but I was denied representing my people.
* Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe says the All Progressives Grand Alliance remains the only platform for the promotion of good governance in Anambra State and Nigeria in general. Obidigwe who is the immediate past member representing Anambra East and West federal constituency stated this when the APGA Ward Secretaries from Anambra East Local Government Area paid him an official visit. Welcoming his guests, Obidigwe eulogised the party’s Ward Secretaries for standing firm, committed and steadfast in the defense and promotion of the ideologies and principles of the party, adding that APGA remains the collective platform for leadership engagement and promotion of good governance in Anambra state and beyond.
* Former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, has called on the federal government to devote more efforts in tackling increasing cases of killings across the country. He said the ugly trend had continued unabated due to lack of prosecution of perpetrators of the dastardly acts in cases where they were arrested. Anyaoku was speaking at the 2024 Summit and Award ceremony of Merchants of Light School, Oba Old Boys Association Worldwide, themed, ”Alumni Engagement in the Management and Improvement of their Alma Mater”. The event held in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
* Professor Chukwuma Soludo says his administration is on course to delivering and laying the solid foundation for a liveable and prosperous smart megacity for ndị Anambra. Soludo stated this during the 2024 Executive Council Retreat held at the International Convention Centre, Awka, the state capital. Addressing the press at the end of the retreat, Soludo reiterated that the programme was used to foster constructive dialogue and find practical solutions to issues in the governance landscape.
* St John’s Parish Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State has celebrates mass wedding for 26 couples. The ceremony which was both a spiritual and legal affair, was a memorable occasion for all involved, especially for the couples, who desired to be married in the Catholic faith and become full-fledged members of the Church. The Parish Priest, Rev Fr Okechukwu Otie in his homily urged the couples to be peacemakers in their various homes, stressing the need to love their partners with all their hearts. He reminded them that marriage was a gift from God, and that they should cherish it and work to strengthen it every day.
* Ahead of the next year’s governorship election in Anambra State, one of Nigeria’s business moguls and former governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, has received endorsement to fly the flag of Labour Party, LP.
At a high-powered meeting of Labour Party stakeholders in Enugwu- Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State hosted by Mr Martin Obinna Anekwe, January 6, Ozigbo received Anekwe’s endorsement to run for governor on the party’s platform.
* The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra Chapter, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, says the year 2024 will be a promising and fulfilling year for workers emphasizing that the state’s workforce deserve to be adequately taken care of. Nwafor urged them to redouble their efforts and also ensure promptness and sincerest actions in the discharge of their duties.
* Elders from Nimo community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has accused the State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Matters Tony Collins Nwabunewanne, of imposing town Union Leadership on them. They alleged that the Commissioner deployed people from their neighboring communities of Abacha, Eziowelle and even Abakaliki people residing within the area to vote against the wishes of Nimo people in the just concluded Nimo Town Union Election.
