Operatives of the Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade have arrested 13 individuals for engaging in illegal kaolin mining activities.

The suspects were apprehended during an enforcement operation in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, and Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, said the arrests were part of a targeted crackdown on illegal kaolin excavation, which he described as a major contributor to environmental degradation across the state.

According to Anere, the operation was carried out at identified excavation sites where indiscriminate removal of soil had been ongoing. He added that the affected sites were immediately sealed to stop further environmental damage and to prevent the expansion of erosion-prone areas.

Comrade Anere explained that illegal excavation has been identified as one of the key drivers of erosion in Anambra State, noting that such activities weaken soil structure, destroy farmlands, and expose surrounding communities to flooding and severe gully erosion.

# Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

Prof. Chuma-Udeh, adorned in police uniform, was on Monday warmly saluted and congratulated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, amid cheers from other principal officers of the Anambra State Government, during the first State Executive Council meeting of 2026 held at the Light House, Awka, following her promotion to the rank of ACP.

It was gathered that Prof. Chuma-Udeh is a Supernumerary Police (SPY) officer, a special category of police personnel distinct from regular officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

Further findings reveal that Supernumerary Police Officers are private individuals sponsored, trained and appointed by the Nigeria Police Force to perform specific security-related and auxiliary roles, often in support of institutions, organizations or public interest duties.

While SPY officers undergo formal police training and are vested with certain policing powers, they do not form part of the conventional police workforce and are not counted within the regular police establishment.

# Anambra government has reviewed the state of security in the state and the restoration of Anambra as the most secure state in Nigeria.

During the first Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Meeting of the year 2026, which took place at the Light House, Awka, the Soludo led administration resolved to continue to promote inter-security agency collaboration and the strengthening of security agencies, such as the 30 Hilux vehicles recently given to the Anambra State Police Command by the state government.

The council relished the Christmas and New Year celebrations and reiterated that the ‘Onwa Dezemba’ programme has come to stay as an annual event and will be made into something that Ndi Anambra and the world will look forward to every yuletide.

# Nnobi Community in Idemili South council Area of Anambra State has Inaugurated Chief Aloysius Olubialu as president General of Nnobi Qelfare Organization (NWO).

Olubialu in his acceptance speech after being sworn in, thanked ndi Nnobi for the confidence reposed in him and assured them that his administration will move Nnobi forward by entrenching peace and attracting more infrastructural projects.

The leader of the team from the ministry of Local Government Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Ibeawuchi Obele, described the event as peaceful and urged the new leadership of the Nnobi welfare Organization to work towards bringing lasting peace and progress to the community.

In an interview, the traditional ruler of Nnobi, lgwe Engineer Nick Muodum Obi, commended the outcome of election and inauguration, and prayed for peace,unity, and progress, emphasizing that Nnobi will be great again.

The Monarch applauded the tremendous infrastructural development embarked and executed by Nnobi special title holders to the community.

# The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie, has appointed Mr. Ekene Prosper Ezeumeanya as Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on New Media.

In a letter signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, Mr. Ezeumeanya appointment takes effect immediately.

# A serious conflict erupted in Awgbu town, Orumba North LGA of Anambra State, where a masquerade popularly known as Agaba, entered the venue of the Igwe Awgbu burial and began to scatter things on stage off the guest Artist.

According to the report, several announcements were made for the guest artist Onowu ugonabo to stop his music because the masquerade is coming in but he didn’t stop, so when the masquerade eventually entered, it went straight to the stage to confront Onowu.

Meanwhile, in Igbo land, it’s a normal behaviour to stop every other musical instrument once a big masquerade enters the venue of any event.

# A former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2021 Anambra gubernatorial election, Dr. Amobi Nwokafor has observed that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been deceiving and manipulating APC, pretending to support APC at the national level while it maltreated members of the state chapter of the party in Anambra.

Nwokafor who spoke newsmen also observed that every successive governor of APGA would want to be friends with the President of Nigeria with a promise that they would deliver Anambra State to APC.

But from history, according to him, APGA has not been able to do that. He was however of the opinion that the high time they realized that it is only when there is a sitting APC governor in Anambra that the state can be delivered to APC; that anything on the contrary, APC will continue to loose elections in Anambra State and would not get even up to 25%.

# Ndiowu community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra have elected Chief Chibuzor Okeke as the new traditional ruler of the town, after eleven years.

Chief Okeke polled 506 votes to defeat his four other contesters; Chief Onyeka Ekwueme-2 votes, Mr Ogochukwu Nwankwo-2 votes, Mr Onyeka Kanu-2 votes and Chief Obuneme Okeke-Non vote.

The returning officer for the election, Mr Alex Omenugor, who announced the results in the election that took place at Central School field Ndiowu, said 18 votes were invalid out of 512 valid votes billed for the exercise.

The election was supervised by officials from the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy matters led by Mr Ikechukwu Mgbike

In his brief acceptance speech, the Traditional ruler elect, Chief Okeke, thanked the people for their participation during the voting process, promised to be father to all through an all-inclusive leadership.

According to the newly elected monarch, his rulership will put to an end all humanitarian divisions in the community.
