* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has sympathised with the victims of the devastating fire incident that occurred at Ahịa Mgbede, opposite the New Motor Spare Parts Market in Nnewi, in the early hours of Tuesday.
In his consolatory message signed by
Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor, Soludo lamented that the tragic event has resulted in significant loss of property and livelihood for numerous business owners, plunging them into immense hardship and despair.
While assuring the affected victims of his solidarity at this difficult time, the Governor commended the efforts of the Anambra State Fire Service and other emergency responders who worked tirelessly to contain the fire and minimise further damage.
Also, Governor Soludo urged market leaders and business owners across the state to always exercise caution and adhere to fire safety guidelines to prevent such tragic occurrences.
* A Joint Security Team comprising the Police, Military and other Security Agencies on Tuesday 14th January 2025 successfully carried out an offensive operation against a suspected armed secessionist gang in Umugem road, Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area.
The team neutralized five members of the armed group, while some others escaped with various degrees of bullet wounds.
According to a press release by SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, during the operation, the security team razed down the criminal camp and recovered four undetonated improvised explosive devices (IED), two AK47 assault rifles, one pump action gun, and one 75-volt battery with other incriminating items.
To this end, the Commissioner of Police CP. Nnaghe Obono Itam seeks greater cooperation of the people in the area for a patriotic involvement to take back the space and deny these criminal elements the space they use to cause tension in the State.
* The Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, has called on lawmakers to increase their commitment and productivity in fulfilling their responsibilities as representatives of the people.
Deputy Speaker made the call during the resumption of the 2025 plenary of the Assembly in Awka.
He emphasized that 2025 holds significant prospects for Ndi Anambra, adding that the citizens expect remarkable outcomes through quality and efficient legislative representation.
The Deputy Speaker further encouraged parliamentary staff to demonstrate greater dedication to enhance productivity.
* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde has urged personnel to demonstrate a strong work ethics and commitment to excellence in their duties.
Maku made the call at the first muster parade/strategic management team tactical digest of the command at the state Command Headquarters Awka.
Accessing the performance of the command in the year 2024, Comdt. Maku expressed his appreciation to Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of NSCDC and Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the executive Governor of Anambra State for their unflinching support and guidance which provided the command with the wherewithal to deliver on its mandates, promising that the command will remain resolute in delivering on its core mandates in the year 2025.
* Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo on Wednesday January 15th 2025 honoured fallen heroes, calling on all to reflect on the values they represented.
Soludo while saluting their courage, sacrifice, loyalty, and patriotism at the event held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, urged all to cooperate with our security agencies in their efforts in curbing crime.
According to the Governor, as we commemorate this Armed Forces Remembrance Day, we are reminded of the sacrifices they made for our freedom and security.
* Schools in Anambra State have resumed academic activities after the Christmas and New Year holidays and festivities.
Some of the schools visited in Awka and environs by the Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, have all resumed in earnest with academic activities going on.
Students were also observed cleaning their classrooms and taking resumption tests given by teachers.
* Reports has it that the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rtn. Hon Somto Udeze will suspend Hon. Nigeria Mbachu from participating in Legislative duties.
Hon. Mbachu, the member representing Awka South one in Anambra State House Of Assembly has been vocal on insecurities bedeviling Anambra which prompted the leaders of the Assembly to remove him from their WhatsApp group.
Reliable sources confirmed to Anambra that the next step by the leadership of the State Assembly is to suspend him from plenary.
Hon. Mbachu has been bold and courageous in condemning what’s has been going on in the State.
He has openly stated that the State Assembly is not doing enough to ensure the release of their colleague who was kidnapped at Onitsha during the Christmas period last year.
* Dr. Dozie Ikedife Jnr, a renowned community leader and advocate for development has visited the burt Nnewi market to sympathize with the victims and assess the extent of the damages.
During his visit, Dr. Ikedife interacted with the affected marketers, offering words of encouragement and compassion. He expressed his heartfelt sympathy over the unfortunate incident, stating:
“This is a significant loss not just for the victims but for the entire Nnewi community. The resilience of our people has always been our strength, and together, we will overcome this tragedy.”
* The Chairman of Nigeria Legion, Anambra State Council, Dr. Benedict Agbogu has urged Federal and State Governments to put in place welfare package for the families of the nation’s fallen heroes and veterans to encourage uptimum performance.
Dr Agbogu made the plea at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance day ceremony held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
Dr Agbogu appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for signing six plots of lands for the construction of secretariat for the council and urged the state government to continue to remember their veterans by giving them enhanced welfare packages to enable them take care of the families of their fallen heroes.
He listed their fallen heroes as personal of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police who died in line of duty, adding that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is also used to honour their veterans as well as solicit moral and financial support for the families of their fallen heroes.
* The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, has congratulated Fr. Alphonsus Ezeoke, Administrator of Ekwulobia Catholic Diocese and Episcopal Vicar of Ekwulobia Region, as he celebrated his 35th priestly anniversary.
