* It was a moment of sober reflection and sadness for the management and staff of Anambra Broadcasting Service, (ABS) and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) when the remains of their former colleague, the Late Mrs. Nneka Anoliefo, arrived the corporate headquarters of the establishment in Awka for a commendation service in her honour. The Late Mrs Anoliefo popularly called “Ada Ndị Igwe Anambra” was a member of the News and Current Affairs Department of the ABS before her unfortunate demise on December 5, 2023 at the age of 48.
* Three traditional rulers, Igwe F.E. Ebelendu of Aguluezechukwu in Aguata Local government area, Igwe Onwuamaeze Damian Ezeani of Neni in Anaocha Local government area and Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu of Ojoto in Idemili South local government area have respectively apologized to Anambra State Government and withdrawn and cancelled the phantom chieftaincy titles conferred on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, as it contravenes the State Traditional Rulers’ law. Angel Network News reports that according to a release signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, the Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo stated the action by the the three traditional rulers was in direct contravention of the State Traditional Rulers’ code, which outlines the rules and regulations regarding the granting and revocation of chieftaincy titles.
* The newly deployed Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Olatunde A. Maku on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 charged officers overseeing various formation of the Command to cage and dominate their area of responsibility against crimes and criminality. In his maiden meeting with Area Commanders, Heads of Department and Unit, Divisional Officers, and formation Commanders at the State Headquarters Awka, the State NSCDC boss conveyed his delight at the goodwill exhibited by Officers and men since his arrival.
* The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, has expressed sadness over the way the Anambra State Government led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been treating the traditional rulers in the state. Achebe, who is apparently angered by the way the monarch of Neni, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Damian Ezeani, was suspended by the state government recently for conferring chieftaincy title on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, in a letter authored by himself, said the government should respect the traditional institution.
* A group known as Awka Union Baltimore/Washington, USA have donated school chairs worths of million of naira to eight public schools in Awka, the state capital city. The President of the association, Chief Osita Okafor in his remark disclosed that they embarked on the mission to fulfill their objective of helping the needy and poor in the society to have access basic social amenities. Receiving the donation, the Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi said the union has heeded the call to help government improve the quality of education delivered to Anambra children especially those in public schools.
* Environmental experts have recommended intentional tree planting as one of the major ways to mitigate climate change in Nigeria.
They stated this in Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state when a non-governmental organization, Green Environment and Climate Change Initiative, (GECCI) took the campaign for Building Climate Resilience in agrarian communities to those in the rural Communities of the state. ANN reports that the event which was organized in partnership with the Forestry and Wildlife Department, Anambra state Ministry of Environment was supported by the Nigeria Climate Justice Alliance, ( NCJA), and the Nigeria Conservation Foundation , (NCF).
* Anambra government has began the demolition of illegal structures along major roads, drainage lines, and walkways within the State Capital Territory. Angel Network News reports that the state government through the Awka Capital Development Authority (ACTDA) commenced the demolition exercise at Unizik Tempsite, Regina Caeli junction, Oby Okoli Avenue, Okpuno, Abakiliki Street, and Club Road areas of Awka was a result of the expiration of several warning and demand notices served to those illegal traders which were ignored. Major shanties demolished by ACTDA were structures obstructing the free flow of movement, ones constructed under high-tension wires and street light poles.
* Solution Kitchen, located at Ward one office of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Nri, Anaocha LGA has been opened. The event also featured the flag-off of “operation feed my lamb” and the endorsement of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for second term. The gesture, courtesy of Chief Ngozi Obikwelu will ensure that people are given food and drinks at the facility every Monday at no cost.
Prof. Chukwuma Soludo host a New Year breakfast meeting with the extraordinary Solution Football Club at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia. This gathering was more than a mere meeting; it was a testament to the collective commitment to elevate Anambra’s football prowess on the national stage.
As your Governor, and having been an enthusiastic footballer myself, I took great joy in rekindling the passion for the beautiful game. It’s not just a sport; it’s a unifier and a testament to our state’s vibrant spirit.
