* The Youth Wing of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, (ASATU Youth) has revealed her plans to activate the union branches in all other 35 states of the federation and and other countries of the world.
The union disclosed this during the Anambra Community Youth Development Awards held at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, Anambra State.
In a welcome address, the ASATU Youth President-General, Comrade Ken Okoli, reiterated his plans to unify Anambra youths, regardless of location, under a shared vision for progress and development through extending the association’s vision and impact beyond the state by activating the Apex Union body in all the 36 States of the federation and in diaspora.
* The Chairman of Idemili South LGA, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has commended stakeholder in Nnobi community, Sir. Louis Ezeonyim for constructing modern borehole water for traders in the community.
Hon. Obi described Ezeonyim as a kind hearted man, who had been contributing to the development of the community, Idemili South and Anambra State.
The Mayor said, her administration fully appreciated the need for clean water in the business line which, according to her, equally had a net effect on the quality of food stuffs that would be sold to consumers.
She appealed to private sectors to embrace Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP), stating that collaboration is the key to more development in the community, local government and state in general.
* Bishop Jonas Benson Okoye emphasized the need for priests to continue fervently in their apostolic duties.
The Prelate while speaking in their new year get-together and harvest in Nnewi,
urged them to live out their calls, as they are models and reflections of Christ.
The bishop encouraged the priests to be available to their parishioners and to preach practically, especially in these times of high moral decadence. He also admonished them to view the harvest as an act of worship.
* Hon. Chuks Kamen Ogbonna, Head of Media and Strategic Communication to the late Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has endorsed Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, Chairman/CEO of Seahorse Lubricants Industries Ltd, as a worthy replacement for his former boss in the Anambra South Senatorial seat.
Hon. Kamen made this assertion yesterday during a radio programme, Afa-Igbo-Efuna, on Authority FM. He drew parallels between his late boss and Chief Onunkwo, noting that both individuals have invested heavily in Anambra South, thereby having a vested interest in the region’s development.
According to Hon. Kamen, his late boss emphasized the importance of personality over political party, advising the Anambra South electorate to vote for someone with a proven track record of human capital and community development.
He lamented the prevailing trend of politicians prioritizing personal wealth accumulation over public service, stressing the need for a new breed of politicians who are self-sufficient and immune to corruption.
* The Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) in Anambra State has intensified its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements, particularly in the bustling commercial city of Onitsha.
The squad apprehending two robbery suspects at Upper Iweka following a string of criminal activities.
The suspects, Chinedu Ihuobi and Ikemefuna Eze, both from Imo State, were arrested after robbing a victim, Eze Franklin, of his Samsung X20F9 Ultra smartphone and N100,000 at around 7 p.m. on January 15. During their confession, the duo admitted to committing another robbery in Awka on the same day.
According to the suspects, they sold Franklin’s smartphone, valued at over N1 million, for just N50,000 to a Point-of-Sale (POS) agent located under the Upper Iweka flyover. Efforts are underway to trace the buyer and recover the stolen property.
* Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have called on government at all levels to work harder towards addressing worsening food insecurity in the country, by paying closer attention to small scale women farmers.
The call was made in Awka during a two-day Consultative Forum organized by Small Scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria, (SWOFON), argued that despite efforts by the federal and state governments, there are many gaps that need to be filled while government must increase and expedite interventions towards addressing security challenges across the country.
In a presentation, Sundayson Chidi of the Centre for Social Justice, (CSJ), in his analysis of Anambra State 2025 Budget proposal, noted that it does not reflect the government commitment towards improving food production.
* The Spiritual Director of the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, has again, knocked Governor Charles Soludo over hightened security tension in the state.
The Catholic priest, fondly called Fr. Ebube Muonso, had, in a prophetic message during a prayer march regretted that calls on the governor, who is the chief security officer of the state, to do everything in his power to stem the tide of insecurity, yielded no positive result. Hence, the dire need for citizens and residents to hold him accountable.
Fr. Ebube Muonso further claimed that kidnappers from other states are currently hibanating in Anambra because, they see the state as safe haven for the operation.
Meanwhile, Governor Charles Soludo has said that conspiracy of silence among residents of the state is responsible for rising insecurity such as kidnapping for ransom and ritual killings in Anambra.
Speaking recently in Awka, on the occasion of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Soludo, who insisted that government and security agencies cannot fight crime alone, said that criminals terrorizing Anambra live among residents as husbands, fathers, brothers, and friends; yet, people refuse to give information about their activities.
* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, has commended Sir Paul Chukwuma for donating a brand new ambulance bus to Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home, Agulu.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who gave the commendation at Nise in Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, enjoined other affluent individuals to emulate Sir Chukwuma’s kind gesture to help ameliorate the sufferings of the innocent children living with sickle cell disorder.
Blessing the fully equipped brand new ambulance, the Bishop who was on an episcopal visit to St Felix’s, Nise, prayed God to reward the donor and give the beneficiaries support and grace for good health.
* The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu Phd on Saturday 18th January 2025, Flag-off his re-election campaign at Angel Network News (ANN) Chapel in Udoka Housing Estate Awka.
Dr. Odogwu in his campaign speech, commended all members of NUJ for their support in the past three years. He called on ANN Chapel members to vote him back as the Chairman of the union.
The NUJ Chairman expressed confidence that he will win the election and that he will achieve some of the things he failed to achieve in his first tenue.
* The traditional ruler of Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra state, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), has inaugurated a committee that would raise fund for the building of the Obosi Central Palace as well as overseeing its construction.
The landmark ceremony which marked the beginning of a significant chapter in the history of Obosi took place at Igwe Chidubem Iweka’s royal palace.
Igwe Iweka, who expressed immense joy at the idea of building an Obosi Central Palace that would befit future successive kings of Obosi, prayed for the reign of peace in Obosi and the successful completion of the project.
In his remarks, the President General of the Obosi Development Union(ODU), Barr. Chimezie Obi, went down memory lane, stating that the traditional ruling institution in Obosi has existed for centuries. He said that for eon periods, spanning the ancient times and the modern period, no past kings of Obosi had lived in palaces that befitted their statuses as the kings of the ancient Obosi kingdom.
