# A distinguished Professor Of Finance, Banking and Economic Development Studies and retired former Dean of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Prof. Steve Ibenta has raised concerns over the inequality issue in world development among nations.
In a press release titled “The Inequality Issue In World Development:Why Some Countries Are Rich While Others Are Poor’, the academic quoted the conclusion of some nobel laureates Johnson, Robinson and Acemoglu that nations prosper where there are strong institutions that promote genuine rule of law, provide adequate political rights to elect credible and competent leaders who can create enabling economic environment with equal opportunity for all to compete and contribute to the development of their country.
In contrast, he unleashed their stand that developing nations stagnate because a government of Oligarchy exploits the people for personal or short term gains.
According to the trio, Professor Ibenta confirmed that such countries have weak political and economic institutions designed to concentrate power in the hands of a few elite and to protect political office holders and their interests.

# Political affairs analyst, Chief Kanayochukwu Obidigbo, says the long-standing zoning of political offices is a fundamental contradiction of democratic ideals and global best practices.
In an interview in Awka, Obidigbo, who was responding to the recent zoning of presidential ticket to the south by Peoples Democratic Party PDP contended that no functional democracy thrives on zoning arrangements.
Obidigbo insisted that rotational politics has weakened leadership quality and stalled national development.
On the PDP’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South, Obidigbo said the move still leaves unresolved problems, especially deep-seated ethnic divisions within the region itself.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) Anambra State Command is set to strengthen the bond of synergy and collaboration with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to arrest and prosecute any individual or group of persons who dare to extort prospective candidates ahead of the commencement of 2026 JAMB registration.
JAMB Anambra State Coordinator, Dr. Dinah Ifunanya Obiano while speaking on during a familiarization visit at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters Awka, expressed appreciation for the great role being played by the Corps towards the success of the UTME and urged them to see their engagements as a call to national duty.
Obiano emphasized the need for the collaboration to be sustained, assuring that all necessary provisions have been made to ensure that the 2026 examination is conducted in a serene environment across the State.
In his address, Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant, while welcoming the JAMB coordinator, described the visit as an important step towards strengthening the collaboration and fostering a productive working relationship between the NSCDC and JAMB.
The State Command helmsman acknowledged the synergy between NSCDC and JAMB, which has yielded positive results in curbing examination malpractice, closure of non-accredited registration centres, and apprehending of syndicates exploiting prospective candidates during registration.
# The Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has arrested four persons in Onitsha for engaging in revenue collection without the legal right to do so.
The suspects are: Ikenna Udoji, Kosi Iwobi, Chidera Ogbogu, and Monday, they were arrested while collecting money ranging from one thousand, two hundred naira from keke riders opposite Army Gate.
According to the AIRS Special Squad Commander, Mr. Nathan Obikwelu, the suspects, who have been charged to court, contravened Anambra State Government law that bans illegal collection of revenue from tricycle riders and commercial bus operators.
Mr. Obikwelu maintained that the arrest also aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive that there must be no more illegal cash collection in Anambra State.
# Some retired senior police officers from Anambra State have commended the Anambra State Police Command for the noticeable improvement in security,and the resulting increase in public confidence, particularly during the traditionally sensitive ember-month period marked by heightened travel, festivities, and social activities.
The commendation was given when the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, received retired senior police officers of Anambra origin and others at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
As part of the 2025 security and community-engagement highlights, Anambra State recorded a massive influx of returnees during the ember months. This development has been widely attributed to an improved security architecture and sustained policing efforts across the state.
# Two sureties in the murder trial of Chukwuebuka Anuta before the Anambra State High Court, Awka Division, have formally applied to withdraw their suretyship in the matter.
The application, brought by way of a motion on notice with Suit No. MN/18M/2026, is pending before the court presided over by Hon. Justice G. C. Anulude.
The applicants, Edwin Obiora Samuel and Anuta Israel Chineze, stated that they no longer wish to remain sureties for the defendant.
# The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has urged newly admitted students of the institution to embrace discipline, innovation, and academic excellence as core values for a successful academic journey.
Dr. Awuzie gave the charge while delivering her address at the 42nd Matriculation Ceremony of the Polytechnic, held at the Oko Campus.
The ceremony formally inducted the new students into the academic community of the institution.
Congratulating the matriculating students on their admission, the Rector described their entry into the Polytechnic as a product of merit, hard work, and confidence in their potential.
