# The Anglican Bishop of Amichi Diocese, Rt. Rev Ephraim Ikeakor has explained why he spends so much on Bible reading competitors as he ordained seven new priests in the Diocese.

Bishop Ikeakor while conducting the ordination ceremony of the seven priests including the Diocesan Communicator, Rev Ugochukwu Godswill  Umeakuana, recognized and handsomely rewarded youths in senior and junior categories of Bible Reading in the Diocese who performed wonderfully well in the competition.

The Prelate, in line with the Biblical injunction charged the newly ordained priests to go and make disciples of all nations, asking them to be mindful of pursuit of material things against their growth and spiritual well-being of the worshipers.

One of the newly ordained priests, Rev Umeakuana expressed gratitude to His Lordship, Bishop Ikeakor for being used by God for them to actualize their dreams.
He disclosed that his becoming a priest is not by accident but a design by God. He said it has been his childhood desire to work in God’s vineyard.

# Some personnel of the Anambra State local security outfit, Agụnachemba, have lamented alleged non-payment of their salaries, claiming they are owed arrears ranging from two months to as much as eight months.

Several operatives who spoke in confidence, alleged that despite carrying out their duties in high-risk environments, they have not received their salaries for extended periods.

One of the complainants said he had been deployed in the bush for over two months without pay, a situation he described as frustrating and demoralising.

# The Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Chinedu Okafor, has lamented what he calls the poor refuse disposal habit of indigenes and residents of the area.

The Mayor said such habit hampered environmental cleanliness, while also triggering the instability on climate. He also said this habit caused collective harm to society and hampered environmental friendliness.

Okafor revealed this during an interview session with journalists in his office saying that environmental issues remained one of the biggest headaches of the local government.

The Chairman said his government had also hired 210 road sweepers, insisting that Anambra as the capital of the state needed to maintain a neat environment.

# As part of its ongoing efforts to sustain proper road traffic management across the state, the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists who are in the habit of of converting strategic exit ramps into illegal parking lots , thereby posing risk to other road users.

The warning, which was contained in a notice signed and made available to newsmen by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ARTMA, Engr. Okonkwo Emeka-Konti, followed the recent intervention of the agency at the exit ramp leading into the Awka–Onitsha Old Road via the Amawbia Bypass, where the agency said there had been observations of such indiscriminate parking despite repeated public enlightenment on proper road usage.

While describing such parking as dangerous, unlawful and inimical to smooth traffic flow; the ARTMA Boss explained that the ramp was specifically designed to provide motorists with a seamless and free-flowing access into the Awka–Onitsha Old Road, thereby eliminating the need for drivers to drive up to the main junction before negotiating entry. He, however, noted that when obstructed by parked vehicles, the ramp loses its functional purpose and becomes a traffic bottleneck.

# National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has swore in 1,500 corps members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 set, deployed to Anambra for the one-year mandatory national service.

The oath-taking ceremony was performed by the State Chief Judge, Justice O. M. Anyachebelu, represented by Justice A.O Okoma.

Anambra NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, while speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South local government area of the State, said that the corps members comprised 616 males and 884 females, respectively.

According to Ojisua, the Orientation course marks the foundation of the corps members’ service year.

Ojisua, appreciate the state governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for the consistent support the NYSC enjoys in Anambra. She also commended all camp officials, partners, and the media for their dedication.

# A prominent stakeholder and chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Henry Ifediorah Anyinofu has thrown his weight behind Hon. Amaka Obi’s bid for a second term as Mayor of Idemili South local government.

Addressing newsmen in Oba, Chief Anyinofu described Hon. Amaka Obi as a “large-hearted leader, a reputable humanist, and a God-fearing individual” who has made significant contributions to the development of the council area. He lauded her ability to build strong relationships among the various communities in Idemili South, citing her success as evidence of her dedication to public service.

According to Chief Anyinofu, Hon. Amaka Obi’s re-election is crucial to the continued development of Idemili South, emphasizing that she is driven by a desire to serve, not to accumulate wealth. He appealed to the governor, national and state chairmen of APGA, and other party leaders to support her candidacy, warning against attempts to undermine her chances.

Chief Anyinofu also cautioned the residents of Idemili South to be wary of opponents who engage in blackmail and character assassination, assuring that Hon. Amaka Obi has a strong chance of winning the second tenure based on her track record and pedigree.

# The Anambra International Cargo Airport, commissioned on the 7th of December, 2021, by former Governor Willie Obiano, has continued to provide Ndi Anambra with the services they require.

Since it began operations, the airport has recorded 8,624 flights, both commercial and private, and over 600,000 passengers.

A chat with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the airport, Mr. Martin Nwafor, revealed that the airport records more activities during peak seasons such as Christmas.

According to Mr. Nwafor, the present administration in the state, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has done a lot to upgrade the airport from what it used to be, as he noted that the fire service unit, which was not completed initially, has now been completed with three brand-new fire trucks.

He added that Governor Soludo has also replaced the lights that were vandalised, which he said has enabled night flights, provided a water truck, and carried out several other renovations that helped upgrade the airport from Category Five to Category Seven, while efforts are ongoing to attain Category Nine status this year, alongside achieving full cargo operations.

# Fellows of the Anambra Local Government Accountability Fellowship (ALGAF) have been urged to intensify their advocacy efforts to ensure that local governance becomes more inclusive and responsive to citizens’ needs in Anambra State.

The call was made during the ALGAF Monthly Leadership and Governance Workshop (MLGW), themed “Gender-Based Violence and Power Mapping for Strategic HDI Advocacy Towards Advancing Inclusive Local Governance at Community Levels in Anambra State.”

Declaring the event open, the Director of JDPC Nnewi, Rev. Fr. Benedict Okolo, urged participants to sustain their advocacy for greater inclusivity across political, economic, religious, and other sectors, particularly at the grassroots level.
