* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has flagged off the programme called Solution know your numbers at General Hospital, Enugu-Ukwu in Njikoka council area of Anambra state.
Governor Soludo said that the programme was aimed at giving Ndi Anambra the opportunity to know their status in five key areas including Blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol among others and advised every onye Anambra to access the services free of cost in all the General Hospitals across the state.
* As the 2023 general elections draw closer, the Anambra State APGA Deputy Chairman, Chief Tony Omeligwe Elee has advised Ndi Anambra to shun monetary inducement during the exercise. Chief Elee, who gave the advice in an interview with journalists in Awka, condemned in its entirety monetary inducement during elections, saying that a situation where eligible voter sells his or her vote to the highest bidder leaves much to be desired.
* There are indications that close aides to the former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, are in full support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the February 25 presidential election. Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Protocol to the former governor, Kagbue Uzuegbunam, who contested for the Anambra Central Senatorial District and Tony One-Week, who also ran for the House of Representatives for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, moved round with Tinubu’s son on arrival in the state.
* The public presentation of two books, ‘The Origin of Ndigbo'(Exploring New Perspectives in Tracing the Black Jews of Africa) and Replacing Faulty Ideologies (Redefinition of the Concept of Omenani using Biblical and Theological Principles) is set to take place.
The books written by Rev. Canon Amobi Charles Ekweozor will be launched on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Archbishop Anikwenwa Hall, Emmaus House, Arthur Eze Avenue, Awka, Anambra State by 11:00 am.
* Anambra state government has postponed the date for the commencement of the proposed demolition of over one hundred shops, hotels and other structures in Awka. The said massive demolition exercise reported by ANN would have affected many structures along the popular Oby Okoli Avenue, which stretches from the Unizik Temp. Site to Okpuno community and beyond, was initially slated to commence on Tuesday, following the expiration of the 7-day ultimatum and ‘Remove’ notice issued by the officials of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA).
* The Secretary General, Anambra State Muslim Council and leader of the state contingent to the 2022 Hajj, Alhaji Sanni Ejoh has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing an enabling environment that led to the success of the 2022 Hajj. Alhaji Ejoh noted that Governor Soludo has tenaciously upheld his manifesto of making Anambra a livable and liveable homeland since assuming office and described him as a man of his words.
* Senator Victor Umeh has urged ndi Awba-Ofemmili, a community in Awka North local government area, Anambra State not to allow politicians of other parties to deceive them as the Labour Party is the only Party that has given the South East geopolitical zone the opportunity to participate in the coming presidential election by fielding Mr. Peter Obi as its presidential candidate and for the momentum the OBIdient Movement has garnered throughout the country and that every true onye Igbo should endeavor to vote for the Labour Party in the coming Election to ensure he wins convincingly and to also elect competent members of the National Assembly that will collaborate with the President in effectively achieving the set-goals.
* The Anambra State Government has confirmed one death and 15 suspected cases of Lassa Fever in the state within January.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, said the state’s emergency response team had already responding to the recorded cases while relevant surveillance measures were in place to curtail spread. He further said government had constituted contact tracing teams to follow up on the cases.
* The member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Hon Chinedu Obidigwe says only competent leaders will relaunch Nigeria into economic prosperity.
Hon. Obidigwe who was speaking with newsmen in his Aguleri country home, Anambra East Local Government Area noted that only leaders who have the interest of people at heart will deliver Nigeria from its current economic and political malady. The Lawmaker regretted the current insecurity in the Country, and urged the federal government to do everything humanly possible to save Nigerians from untold hardship and unwanted killings.
* The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Paul University, Awka, Anambra State, Prof. Stella Okunna has decried decreasing commitment and dedication to studies among undergraduates in tetiary institutions across the country. She described dishonesty and lack of diligence in academic activities as killer vices, urging students to desist from such to avert future regrets. Okunna spoke during the 23rd Annual International Conference and Annual General Meeting of the African Council For Communication Education, ACCE at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, themed, “Communicating Science, Technology and Innovation in times of Economic Distress,Terror and Pandemic.”
* Goodness Ezechukwuchiri an SS3 student of Ide Secondary School, Enugu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government area of Anambra State shocked many as she emerged champion of the High jump event at the just concluded National School Sports Festival (NSSF) World School Athletics trials held in Abeokuta, Ogun State. According to the Head Coach, Anambra Athletics team, Mr. Johnny Igboka, the 16years old Ezechukwuchiri lept a height of 2:07 metres in the U18 category of the trials.
* The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Charles Esimone, earlier in the week inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the hosting of the upcoming South East Universities Games Association (SEUGA) sports programme. The Committee which was inaugurated at the Conference room of the Vice-Chancellor has Chief Dr. Emeka Okeke, Founder and Proprietor of NNL Club Aspire Football Club and President RISE Clinic Adazi-Ani as the Chairman of the LOC and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu as the Co-Chairman.
