* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has called on Nigerian youth to join in the collaborative efforts of ensuring peace and safety in the country, channel their strength towards sustaining peaceful coexistence and volunteer information to the security agencies to enable them nip in the bud the menace of crime and criminality. Angel Network News reports that the Assistant Commandant of Corps, Operations (AC, Ops) at the NSCDC Zone K , Zonal Command Awka, Engr. Onyebuchi Onwuteaka gave the charge in Awka on Friday while delivering a paper at the Anambra Youth Investment Summit organised by National Youth Council of Nigeria ( NYCN) Anambra State Chapter.
* Anambra State has received four prestigious technology awards for its commitment to digital development. The awards were presented during the ICT peer review session at the 11th National Council on Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE) meeting held in Kano.
Recieving the awards the Managing Director and CEO of Anambra State Information Communication Technology Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, dedicated the awards to the team at ICT Agency and praised the Governor for creating the enabling environment as well as a vision which guides the Agency in line with the ‘Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere’ mantra.
* The Anambra Football Association Chairman Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi has mourn late Coach Uche Okagbue who died after a brief illness at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital Nnewi.
Angel Network News reports that untill his death, late Okagbue was the Head Coach of Nigeria National League side owned, by Anambra state government, Solution FC of Awka. Iloenyosi described the former FC Ifeanyi Ubah coach as one driven by passion who was professional in his dealings with players and coaches alike.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye says the Command will not let down it’s guards in ensuring that the prevailing security in the state is sustained. Adeoye said this after receiving an Award For Security Architecture with special prayers from the Association of Past and Present Presidents General of Anambra Communities in Awka
* The Anambra Vigilant Group, AVG has lauded the men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command for their doggedness in apprehending those impersonating the state vigilante group, stating that AVG is not going to leave any stone unturned in sanitizing the outfit. In a statement released at the weekend by the AVG’s Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Nweke Nweke, said the men in AVG uniforms arrested and paraded by the NSCDC are not members of the group, recurring that the local security outfit had before now, complained bitterly over the rate some youths are of impersonating the group in the state. Declaring that the three men apprehended with the local security uniforms were not in any way traced in AVG record, the group made it known that all employed in the outfit have a known record as against those paraded by the Civil Defence Corps.
* The Deputy Minority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly and Member representing Ogbaru one State Constituency, Hon. Noble Chukwunonso Igwe has described as barbaric, atavistic and irresponsible the actions of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) in the state capital, Awka. Igwe who spoke in his office at the assembly complex Awka, complained that the way and manner in which ACTDA carried out its demolitions in Awka were completely illegal, inhuman and could degenerate into full blown social unrest, should the agency continue to demolish and burn the means of livelihoods of the poor masses who barely have up to N100,000 as capital.
* As the 20th anniversary edition of the South East University Games holding in Nnamdi Azikiwe University continues, UNIZIK athletes have shone bright in some indoor games.
Team UNIZIK have won two Gold medals in Table Tennis. The quartet of Chimuanya Uwah, Izuchukwu Okoli, Somtochukwu Onwuegbusi and Bello Yusuf put the university ahead winning Gold in Male Table Tennis Team event. The female trio of Judith Nwosu, Chiama Nworah and Ifunanyachukwu Uzoigwe claimed the second Gold in the same event for team sports.
The UNIZIK male and female chess team also defeated their Abia- state university and Federal University of Technology Owerri counterparts respectively in the round one of Chess event.
* The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Mazi Ejimofor Opara, has described labour party faithful in Anambra State as mere disgruntled elements and power mongers with misplaced priorities. Opara who spoke in his office at the Government House Awka, further described the opposition labour party faithful as bunch of jokers with no clear-cut directions as to why they were elected to occupy public offices
