* Anambra Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Ify Obinabo has decried the high rate of homicide in the state and stated that the case will be charged to court in order to get justice.
Obinabo while speaking after visiting the scene of a 74-year old woman allegedly burnt to death in her wheelchair in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, promised that the state government would not relent until justice was served.
Items recovered at the crime scene were the burnt remains of the deceased, her wheelchair, and a casket.
Four suspects fingered in the crime are 21-year old Chinenye Ekwenugo; 47 year old Uzochukwu Okeke; 60-year old Fidel Anayo and Ikenna Anene aged 54.
* The Mayor of Njikoka Council Area, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to attracting investments and promoting economic growth in the area.
This was evident during his recent courtesy visit to Ozonkpu High Chief Chigbo Chinweuba (Dike Ana Agbaluizu Enugwu-Ukwu Na Umunri), a renowned New York-based businessman and philanthropist.
Ozonkpu High Chief Chigbo Chinweuba, who is currently building a factory in Enugwu-Agidi for the manufacture of IV Infusion fluids (i.e., drip, syringe, etc), welcomed the Mayor and his entourage. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project, which is expected to create jobs and stimulate economic activity in Njikoka and Anambra at large.
During the meeting, High Chief Chigbo Chinweuba seized the opportunity to call on Ndi Njikoka in diaspora to bring their wealth home, emphasizing that Anambra State is safe for investments, regardless of the pocket of challenges. He encouraged them to take advantage of the favourable business climate in the state and contribute to its development.
The Mayor, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, thanked Ozonkpu High Chief Chigbo Chinweuba for his investment and praised his efforts to promote economic growth in Njikoka. He assured the stakeholders that his administration is committed to providing a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
* Operatives of the Anti Cult unit of the Anambra State Police Command stationed at Enugwu Ukwu acting on credible information, arrested one Maduka Okoye aged 25 years in Abagana.
The team also recovered three expended cartridges of a pump action gun at a shooting scene in Ezichike Community of Abagana

Anambra State Command, the suspect Maduka Okoye, confessed to being a member of Baggars Confraternity and said that he was in a beer parlour drinking with his friend in the area when they came under attack by members of the rival cult group identified as Axe Men Confraternity.
Meanwhile, the Police responded swiftly and restored calm in the area.
The suspect is currently assisting the Police Operatives in an ongoing operation for the possible arrest of the fleeing gang members and already identified members of the rival cult members, especially those actively involved in the shooting.
* The Joint Security Team comprising of Police Operatives from Oko Divisional Headquarters and Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) Amaokpala acting on intelligent-driven information has raided an identified criminal hideout at Umudike, Amaokpala in Orumba North Local Government Area.
Items recovered during the crackdown include large quantity of substance suspected to be hard drugs, two mobile phones and a cash sum of seventy-three thousand, one hundred and fifty Naira (#73,150) suspected to be proceeds from the sales of the substance.

Anambra State Command, the fierce-looking criminals took to their heels on sighting the Joint Security Team and ran into the nearby bushes.
Meanwhile, the Operatives have taken over the scene, destroyed the camp and are on the offensive against the criminals for possible arrest and to make sure they don’t regroup anywhere in the State.
* Fourteen youths from Anambra State are set to champion groundbreaking campaigns focused on electoral reform and various other social issues plaguing the society.
The youths, during the weekend, were trained and empowered with relevant skills to conduct advocacy and push for youth-led electoral reform projects in the state and country.
The workshop organized by Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI), a nonpartisan and non-governmental organization, was funded by Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) supported by Canada Funds for Local Initiatives.
The Executive Director of CATYCOI, Mr. Nonso Orakwe, said the plan was to prepare the youth to drive change that will address pressing concerns, such as electoral violence, voter apathy, disenfranchisement, and the manipulation of the electoral process.
* Operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad Enugwu Ukwu, at a security checkpoint in Umudioka-Awkuzu road by Igbariam on arrested two out of the four occupants of a white Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number YAB 26 CB.
The team also recovered one barreta pistol, two live ammunition and the Toyota Corolla vehicle.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command in a press statement revealed that the two suspects are Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima both aged 22 years old and from Benue State.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest the other two suspects that are currently on the run.
* Anambra South senatorial hopeful, Barr. Donald Amamgbo reaffirms his commitment to reforming and repositioning Nigeria’s educational system to meet 21st-century demands.
The promising Labour Party senatorial district aspirant made this known in a statement released by his media office on Thursday, expressing his strong desire to ensure that more young people should be in school rather than the streets perpetrating crimes against the society.

* Six youths and a family have been made millionaires by Lovebite Foods and Beverages Limited, Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, after emerging the 2025 Grand Ambassadors of the company in females, males and families’ categories of the Faces of Lovebite Foods contest.
The winners: three males and three females came from within and outside Anambra State.
They smiled home with the sum of one million naira each, while the family that won in the families category, went home with two million naira.
The winners emerged after a tough series of contests involving about hundred contestants at the grand finale which took place at Lovebite Foods and Beverages Corporate Office, No 1 Nwosu Mmaduka Close, Umuru, Nnobi.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lovebite Foods and Beverages Limited, Mr Innocent Nwosu said it was part of his company’s way of giving back to the society and empowering youths and families to be self-reliant.
He advised the winners to see the money as seed which will be used to create wealth, declaring his readiness to coach them on their business ideas to ensure they are established with the fund.
* The Anambra State Government through the Office of the Special Adviser (SPAD) to the Governor on Trade and Market has inaugurated a caretaker committee for the Uwakwe Ukegbu International Building Market Umuokpu, Awka.
The body was to oversee the administration of the market and ensure compliance with the state policies guiding markets and marketing activities.
The inauguration was conducted by the SPAD, Chief Evarist Uba in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
Chief Uba while addressing the committee outlined what will be their responsibilities, which included maintaining peace within the market, adhering to government directives, and ensuring that all approved levies are collected and remitted to the state’s designated account through the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (ANSID).
He noted that wheelbarrow pushers and hawkers are exempted from paying levies.
* Reports and videos circulating online have alleged that the demolished Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites in Oba, Idemili South LGA, was being used as a kidnappers’ den.
The property, located along the Onitsha-Owerri road, is claimed to have contained well-partitioned graves, a shrine, and other suspicious structures. A video shared online suggested that the last floor of the hotel housed over 30 graves, along with items like a shrine, blood, and firearms.
In a telephone interview, the hotel’s owner, Mr. Udoka Calistus Ejim, denied the allegations and expressed shock over the claims. He explained that he initially rented the property 2021 from one Mr. Nwagbo, popularly known as Ichie Aja, who is reportedly the younger brother of the President-General (PG) of Oba. According to Mr. Ejim, he later purchased the hotel in 2023 after being persuaded by the seller, even borrowing money from a bank to complete the payment.
