* Anambra State Commissioner for Information Dr Law Mefor says Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to Nnamdi Kanu’s release and his efforts to restore peace in the South East are genuine.

Mefor in a Press Statement stated that it has become imperative to address the misinformation circulating in the media space regarding Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s alleged reluctance to support the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This misinformation has been peddled by desperate opposition politicians who are intimidated by Soludo’s impressive achievements in office. In less than three (3) years, he has surpassed his campaign promises, leaving his critics scrambling to discredit him.

* The leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), is currently grappling with a crisis over the distribution of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to Higher Institutions Nationwide.

A faction of the Students body is accusing it National President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe and the Students Senate President, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye Afeez, of being selective in the distribution formula.

The faction has also passed a vote of no confidence on the two leaders.

* Some residents of the Amawbia community in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State have staged a peaceful protest over what they described as multiple crises that have created disunity in their town.

They held placards with various inscriptions such as “Current Amawbia Town Union (ATU) corrupt,” “We don’t want trouble in Amawbia,” “The election will bring trouble; we want peace in Amawbia,” and “We want support from Governor Soludo to create a better Amawbia.”

According to the protesters, key issues disrupting peace in the community include the illegal sale of community lands by land grabbers, the inability to elect a traditional ruler, disputes over leadership, and ongoing factional crises.

The spokesman for the group, Mr. Emma Okafor, appealed to Governor Soludo to establish a committee to investigate these issues that have been fuelling unrest in the community.

* Orofia United In Diaspora (OUD) has donated a mini-bus, three motorcycles, torch light, walkie talkie, and cutlass to
uniforms to the vigilantes of the community.

OUD are illustrious sons and daughters of Orofia village, Abagana who reside outside the country but have come together to bring development to their community.

In his speech, the member representing Njikoka two Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Jude Akpua PhD, said the group has responded to the clarion of Governor Chukwuma Soludo on well-to do individuals to embrace the Public Private Community Partnership, PPCP model of development to fast track even development of all communities.

The President, Orofia United In Diaspora, Dr. Nduka Akaogu, in his remark, explained that their sole objective is to contribute towards the development of Orofia village in particular and Abagana at large through well designed supports to education, healthcare, civic and developmental projects.

* Pensioners in Anambra State Broadcasting Service (ABS) are protesting their exclusion from the recent financial package announced by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The package included N10,000 for pensioners alongside the new minimum wage.

However, only working staff of ABS have received their new minimum wage for two months, leaving pensioners struggling to cope with economic hardships.

A retired ABS staff member, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration, saying, “We’ve never received the N10,000, and there’s no hope it will come.

* Prince Onwa Nwafor Orizu, the son of the first Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Akweke Nwafor Orizu, has declared his intention to contest the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election.

Orizu, made his intention known while briefing journalists at his Ndiakau-Otolo Nnewi country home in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.

The aspirant said he is contesting under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to complete the tenure of the late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

Speaking further on his agenda for the people of Anambra South Senatorial District, Orizu noted that he is vying for the position to enable him to complete the good legislative work the late Senator Ubah had started.

* The Mayor Njikoka, Hon. Barr. Dominic Chinedu Ononiba participated in the official opening ceremony of OBU Ozoenyi, a significant initiative that promises to enhance our community’s cultural and social vibrancy.

Mayor Njikoka expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that made this project possible and emphasized its importance in providing opportunities for community engagement and development.

During the ceremony, the mayor highlighted the impact that OBU Ozoenyi will have on the locality to enhance peace and the enrichment of cultural activities available to residents.

* The Mayor of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi attended the chieftaincy title ceremony of Chief Engr. Emeka Vitus Ezenwanne by His Royal Highness, Igwe Col. C.A.O Muoghalu(Rtd.), as Okwute Udo Of Isuofia Kingdom.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Obi said Engr. Ezenwanne has shown himself overtime as the man of the people and she is not surprised that Isuofia kingdom has found him worthy to celebrate and honour him as the Okwute Udo of the Kingdom

She said, this is affirmation of his numerous contributions to the development of the community. While congratulating Engr. Ezenwanne for his prestigious chieftaincy title, she appealed to him to continue his selfless service to the people, community and humanity in general.

* Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu, the Traditional ruler of Ihiala community in Anambra State has declared a four-day mourning and prayers for one of her illustrious sons and Kingsman, Chief Donatus Onuchukwu and nine others including security operatives who were brutally massacred at the Onuchukwu’s family residence.

The massacred happened during the preparations for the burial of their late mother, Mrs. Bridget Onuchukwu at Umuike Ubahuekwem Ihiala on December, 2024.

The mourning notice was contained in a statement signed and made available to Journalists in Awka, on Tuesday by the Palace secretary, Barrister Emmanuel Mkpo.

 

* The Commissioner of Police Anambra State CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, is taking proactive steps to enhance security in Anambra State by fostering community security collaboration.

The CP while addressing the Anaocha Local Government Stakeholders Forum in a Security Summit with the theme: “Repositioning Security Architectural System in Anaocha” in Agulu on Tuesday, said Anambra is winning in the fight against insecurity.

CP Itam noted that the approach is crucial in building trust and encouraging cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.

The Commissioner of Police maintained that by working together, they can identify and address security concerns, develop effective strategies to prevent crime and promote a safer environment for all.

In attendance include, the Mayor of Anaocha, Hon. Rome Ibekwe, Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi (Rtd), HRM Igwe Christopher Okpala, Chairman Anaocha Traditional Council, Presidents General of the ten towns in Anaocha LGA, distinguished personalities, great sons of Anaocha and others.
